WARNING WARNING!!! Newbie alert!!!!
Hi all I have been quietly reading countless pages on this forum for the last few weeks and I think I am ready to dive into a ROTJ boba fett. I have been doing a ton of research and I have some questions. I am not a rookie costume builder, I have just recently finished a clone trooper and am now a member of the 501st. I thought it would be really cool to make a fett for my next project.
CIMG3624.jpg

first question - Does anyone know this seller on Ebay?

http://stores.shop.ebay.ca/costumeb...012QQ_sidZ95283872QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322

are they cool to deal with? And is their stuff any good?

second question- Are there any resin cast helmets available for sale?

I will keep it to two for now and ask more later.
Thanking you all in advance for any help you can provide.

Hy bud welcome to TDH and the Fett family!!

Costumebase makes some ok stuff IMHO. It is not real accurate though. I would do a little more research on here and look up what it costs to build a complete Fett suit before jumping in with both feet. It takes alot of time, dedication, patience, and most of all, money. Fett took me way longer than my TK.
Not trying to discourage you, just be realistic. I am sure you can pull it off if you completed a clone!

I would make a few more posts and wait until you can access the cargo hold before making any purchases. I would not buy on ebay at all until you know what you are buying. Best advise I can give. I learned the hard way, as alot of others on here have done as well. There is good stuff on the bay sometimes, you just need to learn who is who and what is what in Fett props. ;)

The best Fett prop makers can be found right here and if you need steering in the right direction, shoot me a PM and I will try and help.

Cheers, Jason

another FNG here. I'm putting together a budget ROTJ SE rig and my ROTJ jumpsuit + belt just arrived today from that seller. I was very pleased. I'm going to have to tailor the jumpsuit to bring in the waist a bit, but otherwise I was very impressed for what I paid. I know it's not 100% accurate but it's close. I like it, and I can modify anything that I don't like. It didn't have pockets for the shin tools which I thought was odd, so I'm adding them. The belt was nicely made. When I opened the package the leather smell was really nice. Not that the smell matters. The belt is pristine so I'm looking forward to weathering it.

Welcome to the addiction that is Fett. I will echo what Jason said. Stay away from ebay. The best pieces can be found through makers here. Keep reading and researching. Find the armor/helmet/etc. that you think is the best and get it. Then wait a couple of months/years and update/upgrade. :)

At first, a lot of info can seem overwhelming. You don't know where to start, who to contact for parts. I will say that since you're not a new comer to costuming, you won't be learning how to properly prep your stuff to trim/sand/paint/stencil/etc. since you should be pretty good at it at this point (your clone trooper rocks).

Everyone here on TDH is more than willing to help guide you in the right direction.

Wow!! Thanks for all the quick responses, good advice and compliments on my clone trooper. I am glad to hear that I can find all the parts I need on this forum. Ponte is right I am prety good with the building part of the costume, I just need good stuff to start with to make a successful suit. When you have a forum of passionate Fett fans you know that the products that they produce will be "Tip top Tommy", you guys are very passionate and friendly and I hope to speak to more of you in the future and maybe see you at a troop one day. So this leads to my next question. In your oppinon what piece of the costume is a good place to start foccusing my efforts on?

I bought one of the flight suits from them a few years back with the belt also added in. The flight suit cost me over $100 extra to have fixed by LadySewForUs. The belt was used for halloweed on my sons tume. The shin tools were on the knees and the sleeve details were around the wrists. STAY AWAY!!!!

Start with the focul point The Lid. Get yourself a good Mystery, Boba Maker or Marrow Sun lid and let the misery begin. It is the MOST diffecult tume to put together accurately as the best on here can atest. Some of these guys have over 6K invested in getting it right.

Hi shopguy, and welcome. I had only built my TK before starting my ESB Boba, and that experience helped quite a bit.

My normal advice for new people ( I'm not finished with mine, so I'm still new too ! ) is read, read, read. Focus on one thing as Boomer Fett had said. I keep a file on each part so that I know what I need, who makes it, and what it should look like.

I have fallen into the habit of jumping from piece to piece and nothing gets completed !

If you have questions, try the search feature first. I find that nearly all answers are already posted. If you still get stuck, then post a thread.

Your clone is sweet ! I keep thinking of doing some kind of clone variation down the line, but I'm getting my first home later this month so I have to watch the budget !

I'm in the Albany NY area, and I belong to Garrison Excelsior which reaches out to Rochester, Buffalo. I'm sure you'd be more than welcome to troop with us if you ever get down this way.

Have fun !

Quick tip:
All projects have three main constraints: TIME, COST, and QUALITY. If you're constrained on two of these, you'll sacrifice on the third. For example, you can build a Fett costume quickly and for cheap, but you'll sacrifice Quality. You can build a quality, screen accurate costume for less money, but it's going to take a very long Time (waiting for killer deals on great stuff on the Cargo Hold).
I find it important to decide early on which two constraints you will be most bound to following. For me its Time and Cost, which means that I'll have to sacrifice Quality for the time being. I decided I still wanted the costume to look amazing, so the things I'm doing won't be screen accurate (in my mind, this is Quality), but will still look awesome. Once Halloween is over, my constraints will probably shift to Cost and Quality, because I'll have all the Time in the world to complete the costume.
Hope I haven't blabbered on too long and this helps!

I am a newbie here and I'm almost finished with my Fett project. I STRONGLY SUGGEST STAYING AWAY FROM EBAY! The sellers here are more reasonable with their prices and their products are top notch. I posted a picture of a MOW jetpack I finished and a pair of Fettpride Gauntlets. Stormtrooperguy's rattlecan colors are awesome to use. I spent 3 months researching and reading before jumping into this project. At first I was intimidated but with the help from these guys, you can do anything!

He's right! I even learned how to neuter my cat here!!! Thanks TDH!!!

Thanks for the great advice so far. I think i might start with the Helmet and work my way down.

By the way Boomer what Dremel bit do you use to neuter the cat?

I have stated a helmet using the templates found on this site. I made the bucket out of sheet ABS and carved a dome out of wood to pull a vac form for the top. The mold is more bondo than wood now. Bondo rocks it fixes all your sins. I would like some feed back as to how this looks. Did I get it right?

I'll go ahead and echo what everyone said, stay away from ebay unless you know the sell (ie. someone from the board) Stick to buying from the cargo hold and you should be fine.

If you want to start with the lid, I can personally recommend Terminal Fettler buckets, they're cold cast aluminum, so no need for base of silver, plus they're REALLY light.(although I'm not sure if he still makes them, if not you might be able to find one in the Cargo Hold).
