General Fett Questions.

New Hunter
Hello, I'm really glad I found this place, it's nice to see a group dedicated to such accuracy, authenticity and minute detail, as opposed the..."eh, good enough and don't you dare question my apathetic and complacent standards", mentality and ego. ;)

I have a couple questions I hope you guys could help me with....

Regarding the Tackle Twill and the issue of it's reflective qualities under a flash, can this be resolved by using the matte/wrong side of the fabric and do other colors (such as black), have the same issue?

For those who Troop, is the poly Tackle Twill hotter to wear, than say a cotton twill?

Is it true that the same manufacture was used in the OT for all the characters jumpsuits and that they were just different versions (collars, pockets, fabric, color...etc.), of the same base, jumpsuit pattern, or were some of the jumpsuits "found items", excluding obvious specialty, one-off suits like Bossk?

If so, does the manufacturer only work for the Movie Industry?

Also, do the Screen Used, Fett jumpsuit cuffs have a tab with Velcro to tighten up the bottom of the sleeve (such as Luke's X-Wing coveralls), or is just a regular cuff, with a basic hem?
I checked out all the MoM, Dressing the Galaxy...etc., pictures. but i couldn't exactly tell....

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

Tackle twill reflectiveness - You want it shiny side out, since that's the reason you use it in the first place. What I do is black mist it, since it has to be weathered anyways, which will cut donw on the flash.

TT hotness - It's not really. My vest has a muslin backing and slightly thick interfacing in between and is not hot.

I don't know the answer to the construction other than after all the reading I have done, I suspect it was scratch built, like many costumes by the art team. I think it's 50/50 on how many were found and modded. I think what you'll really find is most ANH was found (since thats cheap and fast), ESB was a mix, ROTJ is mostly scratch built. Thats why the prequels seem less like Star Wars...almost everything is scratch built.

I think his cuff on the sleeve is just a regular tapered sleeve. When making yours, add what you need to make it work. I have seen some people include snaps, so the fold the sleeve excess over a bit and snap it, so the gaunt is cleaner looking. I just use the military boot blousing fold and leave it to my gaunts to hold the sleeve in place.

I am far from an expert in here though. I can only tell you how my ESB Boba is. I'm curious to the other answers you get.

I used the PP1 as a guide to sewing the jumpsuit. In this pic you can see the neckseal is part of the jumpsuit and the sleeves are plain at the ends without the tab closure that the X-wing suits have.

gymbeau2000 and Doug, thank you, I really appreciate the help.

I'm curious to the other answers you get.

Yea, me too.

I'm pretty sure I've read the part about the majority of the OT jumpsuits basically being multiple variations on the same base pattern and being sewn by the same manufacture....I just cant remember if I'm remembering that right, or where I actually read it.

Hopefully someone can chime-in with their expertise.

I'm no expert but in my research of the X-wing pilot costume I learned that many of the jumpsuits in ANH have the same basic pattern (Imperial and Rebel crewmen, TIE/X-wing pilots, Imperial gunner, Navy trooper, etc.). As I understand it, they were designed by John Mollo and manufactured by Bermans and Nathans, a costume supplier in London, UK. I don't know if they also made one-offs such as Bossk's, Greedo's, or Bo Shek's (or Boba's).

Yea, that sounds like what I remember, jedidoug.

I'm wondering if they used Bermans and Nathans for all three of the original films?

Regarding Bossk's flight suit, there's a thread at the RPF, that identifies and discusses the original pressure suit.
Apparently the suits were used in the early Dr. Who episodes...the infamous BoShek wore a black one and it's also the source for the X-Wing pilot's, white and ribbed pressure vest.
