gauntlet missle (found item?)

I belive that the tip has already been identified as one of those brass weights that engineers, carpenters and masoners use to get an exact vertical line.

I belive that the images that you have linked are the same kind of instrument.. only made out of wood.
 
There were a couple posts a long time ago, one was that the tip was a plumb bob, or a piece off of an airplane model. The back piece with the ribbed portion was thought to be a clutch alignment tool. What you have pictured looks like a toy top. It's hard to believe that someone would go throught trying to machine all that, and that it would be easier just to use found parts, but I'm not sure if any parts have been specifically identified.
