Full Dress Out, Comments and Suggestions welcome

Armydad

Active Hunter
So here is an accumulation of years worth of work. Starting nearly 6 years ago with a quicky hasbro mod and trash can armor, I caught the bug and have been continually upgrading from there. Most recently I have redone all armor with RDK's great medium set from an old Ebay fiber glass set I got. Please feel free to comment or make suggestions, Im not completely done, stil some tweeks here and there, I just wanted to get some outside opinions to avoid my own tunnel vision on the project.

The beginning:

Previously 501st approved fiber glass armor:

And the latest upgrade with RKD armor:

Some of the other improvements I made were to the helmet so it sits a little higher so it doesnt look like its sitting on the collar piece and Ive redyed the jumpsuit a shade or two darker.
Do the ammo pouches look too big/ tall? personally thats the one place that draws my eye that Im not 100% satisfied with.

Most impressive , I feel the helm sits a little high as well.

As for the belt, I agree with your judgment now that you mentioned it but I think it looks fine(y)

Thanks, I raised the helm a bit because I'm a little on the short side, it helps add to the height, but I could definitely push it down a bit more, it would give me a better field if view. I'm contemplating taking my pouches apart and slimming them down a bit.

More than dyeing your flight suit, I think it could use more weathering. I can see some of the weathering on the suit but I a bit more would look better. Also hit the knee straps and Boba thong with a bit more weathering.

Its as I feared, my current pouches are much too big, the green block shown are batmninja's dimensions. Man oh man where did I ever get the dimensions for these pouches in the first place? Ive had them for years. Guess its back to the workshop, hopefully I can salvage some of the old pouches.

Yeah dirty that bad boy up, and the ammo pouches looks to be 14 on you, CRL is 10-14, ive found the full 14 gives a really wide looking waist (and the proportion looks odd), Im running the 10 seems less busy and allows all the other kit to sit better together.. have a looksee at both.. hope it helps

Thanks on all the insight so far! I'm not sure what CLR is lol but I might cut back to ten pouches as well, rocking 12 right now. Currently brainstorming the least painful way to rebuild my pouches, I might keep with the foam blocks but durability could be an issue. We'll see how the first one turns out.

So here's the re-worked ammo pouch via batninjas dimensions. I was able to salvage the outer flap to the older pouch and luckily was able to find my pleather I used the first time. I had them nearly 150% larger! Here's hoping the other 9 turn out this well. That should help with the awkward mid section. Also on the weathering, Im tracking that as well, a lot of my weathering got washed out when I re-dyed, so thats on the to-do list as well. Thanks for the reference link Mullreel, I dont think that CRL (see Im learning) was available when I first started years ago, and Hunter, your 10 pouches look clean and tight, think Ill stick with 10 as well. Thanks again guys, keep the ideas coming.

So I was able to deconstruct the old pouches and salvage the outer strap (the hardest part of this particular build I think). I was able to trim down the cardboard inner shells I used the first time around and re-skin them, re-wrap with the strap and viola! New, better sized (thanks Batninja) pouches. Went with the suggested ten pouches, did a quick fit in the mirror and I am optimistically satisfied with the outcome. Will have to do a waist down test fit for comparison.

Made a couple of adjustments, redid the ammo pouches, constructed a new jetpack harness, moved the helmet down a tad. I must say I am much happier with the look. Still little heres and theres, there always is. Going to add a little more weathering to the flight suit and small details on some other parts. Thanks for all the input from everyone. Keep it coming!

Awesome upgrades, however I would trim the RKD armor some more, it looks slightly too thick. Fettpride's casts always seem to guide for a more accurate and thinner trim job, so saying that I'd recommend taking about 1/8" off all together. What helmet kit is that?

The helmet is a mystery kit I found on eBay a few years ago. Definitely not one of the higher grade kits but I was able to make something decent from it. I think the final consensus was it was a recast of one of the other helmet kits out there.

wow what a difference it makes with the ammo pouches....its the 1 thing that caught my eye at first, now just looks totally natural....great job.
