FP ROTJ Gauntlets Painted By Deadland

Alright I have had these bad boys sitting in a box for a while now and I thought that I would get started on painting them. All I have to say is that Chris make a great set of gaunts all the parts are top notch.

The first thing that I did was trim the bottom vac formed shells to remove the residual plastic and get the right shape. Chris trim a lot of it for you already so there was very little work to do. Once everything was trimmed down I threw down a layer of grey primer to get it ready for painting.

After the primer I worked on installing the magnets that I am using for clamping the two halves together the upper and lower shells.

Well I have Fett Seven coming over to the house tonight and we will be putting a layer of silver down on everything, he wants to learn how to use an air brush so no better way to learn than to actually use one.

On with the pics

what kind of magnets are you using? thats a great idea for keeping them halves together. i was thinking about using something else besides velcro, but i didnt know what would work better.
looking great so far!

Thanks here is a link to the magnets that I bought to close the two halves http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=B44X0 and I used 5 min epoxy to secure them to the gauntlets. I will have to remove and reset one of the groups of magnets as for some reason they don't line up right and actually prevent the two halves from coming together fully.

Side note I got the silver on last night with a little help from Fett Seven so I should be able to start masking out the damage this weekend.

These magnets are a really good idea. I was searching for different solution than velcro too, but my gauntlet material is a bit thinner, so snap fasteners did it for me :D

Well I got all of my damage masked out using the C4 ref pics as a guide as I liked the weathering on them more than the MoM as they are a bit less. I should be able to get a coat of Wisconsin Central Maroon down either tonight or tomorrow time permitting.

As always thought and criticism always welcome.

Well I got the WCM painted last night and removed the masking fluid this afternoon to reveal the damage. I just need to do a few minor touch ups and then weather them along with the nozzles and affixing them to the inside of the housing. I will also need to rig something up so that the bottom panel on the left gauntlet can be removed when ever in case I but any electronics in there at a later date. After all of this i will work on getting the missile painted and pick up the necessary accessories to complete them.

I apologize for the bad pics and will post up some better ones once the weathering is done.

Well these bad boy are just about finished up until I get around to buying the push buttons, switches, darts and hoses for them. I do need to reposition the magnets on the left gauntlet as for some reason they did not line up right and glue down the bottom piece of the left gaunt housing as well.

Anyway let me know what you think.
