FP Armor - Version 3

Well-Known Hunter
The time is finally here. There has been buz about it. I've hinted to it. There's a reason for it. I know I said that V.2 was final. I wish it could have been  Sorry guys

Remember, all of the cool new stuff, and innovation you see, you saw it here first.

In the last 2 weeks, in between helmets, I decided to update the armor sculpts :wacko There is a pretty big event coming up at the beginning of the year that required my armor to be as good as it can be. More on that will be posted when the time comes, but it's certainly a once in a lifetime thing to be a part of.

A special thanks goes out to our own Spideyfett, Darthmiller, and Evan4218 for their contributions. They were the only members to get as close as they did at Cel 4 to the real AoSW Fett display (without plexi or glass). Darthmiller, as devoted as he is, even went out that day and forked out some serious cash for a beast of a camera to to make it possible to take the pics (Since everyone was caught off guard and didn't know the display was even going to be there) The crew made friends with the Prop Master and were allowed a few more liberties with the display than what's normal. This afforded us new information we've never had before. Although my armor was pretty close, there's always room for improvement. So, based on some great photo's, and measurements, and information, I've updated the armor to reflect these necessary tid bits. Of course I'll leave the final opinion to the community, but in my own opinion (not because I made them), unless screen pieces fall into someone's hands to get copies from, this will be the set that goes on my own suit/display when I start my new one next year.

I planned on doing this update sooner (about the time the FPH was conceived). Actually, the armor was to be first on the revamp list, but I decided to run with the FPH at the last minute. That turned into a 6 month long project  This was back in April or May. So here we are. I got it in, under the wire of 2007.

Some have asked in recent weeks about the "Rubber Knees" that I promised a discount to members who purchased V.2 armor. This is still very much my intent. The delay in bringing those to life, was only because they needed to be updated .. in the following pics, those will be painfully obvious  I think it's safe to say, that most of you will be glad that I waited to update before I went forward on that project ;)

Here are the first few pics. Lets call them teaser pics I suppose. Because throughout the eveing, I will be adding more pics, and comps to the V.2. I will detail the changes that have been made to each piece (within reason of course). We'll call them "Highlights" If some of the armor looks funny (not what you're used to seeing) , it's not your eyes. This is what the stuff really looks like. Unfortunately, this is what the real stuff looks like in person too .... it's just not what we've come to expect, and so therefore may be a little surprising to some. I say, it looks "kinda funny" <in my best Wayne's world (Dana Carvey) voice>

So come back from time to time tonight. It could get interesting ... ;) (there are a couple of neat surprises coming up)

I can't waint to see more pictures and comparisons. Put me near the top the list when the time comes.

uggghhhh....it never ends!!!!!!!!!!! Looking pretty cool already FP!!! I'm digging that subtle larger dent surrounding the main dent on the chest peice!!!
D

Also glad you got that extra dent on the top rim of the cod!!!! ;)

WOW! That really looks great! Awesome work, dude!

Quick question though: Is that ESB or ROTJ? Can´t tell the difference..:)

I'm not the biggest expert on the differences, but I'm guessing ESB by the damage/dents...so the question for all the ROTJ'ers is whether there will be a ROTJ version.

AWESOME WORK AS ALWAYS FP!! (y)

From those pics I would say you nailed it. I am very interested to see what this would look like on a vest and how it sits on a persons chest. Awesome revisions bro. I am so glad you made them.

Really nice. Very good work...

I'm dying to see it in person, (off course, get a set for myself :p), I'm sure this will be the last one, as you said.

Just 2 questions... out of curiosity... I know it's not an important piece but... are you going to make the "butt" piece already with the correct shape or will be like in the v2 ?? (have you think abuot making it already curved and with the accurate bevels/edges ???

And the kness ??.. are you going to make them curved ??? or like in v2, planes that need to be reshaped ??? (the problem with this method is that you take almost all the upper lip off :$:$:$... ) I would love to hear your thoughts about this :D.

Once again, good work.

Ben - I will be posting all of the details later this evening. But just to touch on your question about the knees ... what you see int he pictures ... is how they come off of the mold. One piece, pre-curved, trim and wear ;)

Thanks for the props everyone !

I've been dying to see someone do a buttplate that way as well. Hoping you might adress that....You're the man FP ;)

Edit: on second thought though...I bet it would be tough to make a one-size fit all of that part. Some of us have big badonka-donks!!!

Sorry I missed this ...

The set you see in the pictures is ESB. The only thing that really differentiates the two versions at this point are the dents on the left breast plate, and the shoulder bells (not shown yet).

The ESB set is actually what is on the AoSW exhibit (repainted in ROTJ colors). Also better known as the "SE" (Special Edition) - the Fett that appeared in the the extended scenes added to the revamped original trilogy movies, and most of the publicity shots (post production and release of SW). So TECHNICALLY ... it can go ESB, or ROTJ

YES!!!! I hope so as well... its a deep pull but no deaper then the back plate in my eyes. I hope to see this happen as well. Its obviously worked well for the trimmed and heated flat styrine to be used for the kidney armor but if were going for accurate here you need the lip on it like the real deal.

I know FP can do it. ;)

I know what's accurate bro. :facepalm The reasons that flat styrene have been included (for years) is for a very good reason. Certainly not because I didn't know any better

With the cost of Styrene on the rise, we have to look at this from a different standpoint. In an attempt to keep costs down to keep these kits affordable, some things need to be considered. Example ...

Kidney plate - needs to be approximately 23 -25 inches long to accommodate different shapes and sizes of people. In a 24 inch by 24 inch sheet of styrene, 6 kidney plates can be yielded. If they are vac formed, only one kidney plate per vac pull would be yielded. Even whith putting another mold on the table at the same tme, you still end up short in the end. Being that it is a virtually "hidden piece", it was the piece that 100 % accuracy was sacrificed until now. Beyond that, the flat styrene strips are technically stronger than the vac'd counterpart.

But all that set aside, who's to say I didn't already have this covered? When I said things like, "a few surprises", and I'll post the details this evening", could it have been because "'Ol FP" already had stuff like this covered? I just wanted to get a bite to eat, and take a nap

FP

I knew it!!!!! ;)

Thats unfortunate that it is such a hassle & unpractical to make that particular part. I still want one though!! :)
