Flame on gaunlets

Dot Phear

New Hunter
Just a question anyone know if the guy who made this is on this site. Or if anyone has actually made one or seen it in action. Its pretty sweet I might get the plans * forsale on ebay * just don't know safety issues on makeing it and the aftermath with little ones running around.

This is not recommended here.:rolleyes If you want to catch yourself on fire, that is up to you.:facepalm

I was measuring up arrows for my Link costume... had a stupid LARP bow (bought it ata fair as I am NOT into LARP ) and had some real arrows...

they were far too long so I decided to measure what kind of arrows I had to fabricate for the weird bow... strung it... and *woosh*

arrow soared through the air into the window of the house behind ours (that's like a freakin 20 meters or something). *crack*

luckily no-one was there and no-one got hurt and insurance covers bla bla.

but dang I was s freakin'startled I immediatly broke the bow into 3 pieces and I don't ever want anythign to do with anything that shoots.

my point is that I didn't even want to shoot and an accident allready occured.

Now you are seriously thinking about buying, creating a thing that is highly flammable even when you are not using it, and then you catually plan on testing it?

You have no idea what range that thing is going to have nor can you control anything that will happen...

don't.

paint or photoshop an action pose or do some crappy computer effects in a fan film.

you're wearing a suit with all kinds of plastic and synthetiques etc so if something goes wrong, it goes really wrong.

Now I don't mind if someone is ready to do that to him/her self, be my guest, but I don't think you can take that kind of irresponsible actions with anyone else around.

not to mention you'd probably get Fett's all over the globe into more trouble as some convention organisations might make a fuzz over our gauntlets and tubes etc (and if more and more people tend to experiment with working flamethrowers, I can't exactly blame them).

Wow ....that just convinced me I AM making one. I already have the plans but wasn't gonna make one but with SOO many people telling one NOT to do it. I think I gotta. I have a lot of friends who tell me NOT to wear costumes to convetions.. It's weird..I should go drink beer and work on race cars. UUHHH NO... I think not. Besides I have a friend who used to be overly cautious like that. He took the shells OUT OF HIS GUN DURING GUARD DUTY FOR the air force. needless to say he takes no chances in life and still lives at home ( I don't mean his OWN home either) even after being retire from the airforce.
The thing comes with more than enough danger warnings on the CD. but it is rather like having a gun in the house. If you don't own guns then you probly don't need to make one. If you are competent enough to hadle a gun then best of luck I can wait to see it work..Life is risk but you never know your alive if you don't take a risk and and enjoy the occsional adrenaline rush. I know I will.

as far as if that guy is a member here... look away from the fire a moment to his Boba Fett costume, that should answer your question

definately an aruetiise suit. Even the newbie TDHers have a better start than that when they troop for the first time.

Besides that, heaven help if something ever went south with that thing.
By south I thought you meant "The South." ;)

Words from a fireman. Listen you should.
But from someone who lost a friend to this animal, reconsider.

I was going to do this too, but, how often am I going to use it? probably once, or until I run out of propellent. Whats the point of it? wont be able to show it off in any conventions, and unless you fully drain it you'd need an entirely seperate set of gauntlets, on top of that most flamable liquids can strip paint.ome cant but others do it exceptionally well. Seriously, reconsider.

Ouch - looks nice - but flamethrowers -

are very, very dangerous.

The fuel is basically unstable. You have to keep it pressurized, which in itself, can cause problems.

You also have to worry about flashback, that is where the flame goes back up the pipe into your fuel source. (badda boom)

On most movie sets, they have three guys standing there with fire extingushers, just in case (foam even), and they use propane gase in very long pipes going to the "smaller" self-contained flamethrower (allows time to shut the thing off incase of flashback).

As others have pointed out, your costume is made up of highly flamable items.

I would not recommend for you to attempt this unless you very aware of the dangers and have working knowledge of gases/flame/materials.

hey i always thought this would be neat, but indeed dangerous. i'd rather try to make the whipcord work on the right gaunt...or use C02 to fire a dummy rocket from the jet pack (maybe a foam one?)

There was a thread here w/ someones outdoor wedding and an ESB Boba shows up w/a working flame thrower...It has vanished, I believe it was Ruffkin( if not, sorry Ruff)

First of all I am Dot Phear I decieded to give my bounty hunter a little more life and made a name for him. Second of all, Even thought I would love nothing better to make the flamethrower or even makeing some of the other parts useable. I deceided not to make it due to a couple of things. 1st I'm sure there is laws about makeing homemade flamethrowers ( they have them for patatoe guns ).
2nd I do not want to make it harder for other Costumers at conventions and such ( like imperial strip searchers for smuggler enhanced spliced Paraphernalia).
3rd Wouldn't be able to show it off cept certain occasions.
4th Wife seen it and laughed ( that laugh like omg he must have not thought he was going to make this that is why he showed me, either that or he thinks I'm stupid enough to let him make that when he can't even fix something with the instructions that is not leathal ) and gave me " The Look " and asked me the question, " You got to be kidding me? " I was like yeah it was just a joke I wouldn't be that stupid ( thinking Damn it ).
5th My son was sitting and watching me make plans to convert my paintball gun into workable items on the gauntlets and a little light bulb and chime went off. I remeber when I was younger getting my hands on some military books and The @#!$%@ cookbook and suprise I did not kill someone. Got close to seriously hurting me or my friends that was building stuff; thought maybe it wouldn't be wise to ( But I might make some with nerf darts or something. ) Also seeing my kids eye's watching the video of the guy's wedding that had the Boba there that used his flamethrower was like seeing the same look in my eye's when I first seen the books.
So I would advise not makeing it unless you have some sort of expereince in the field.

If I could have just switched names I would have But I did this cause I had to remake my account on HV&M via ezboards and figured I figured I wanted to be known as the same name on all forums. Plus I thought I would just use the name I would use with my BH for future use Didn't know think it would be a bad idea. Also it's not like I will be useing my other account.
