Re: fixing and opening gauntlet question

I just use inustrial strength velcro. This may not be a perfect way, and you may have to experiment with it a little, but I have yet to have a problem with this method.

Some people actually use hinges to secure one end, but I'm not sure how the seal the other. Going with the hinges makes things pretty easy in my opinion.

I used hinge on one end and velcro on the other. Just get the piano hinge form home depot they come in foot long lengths 1' 2' 3' 4' etc... Then cut it to the right size with a hack saw. I then used plastic fusion or plastiwel (dont remember which I use them interchangeablely) to glue them to one side.

Re: fixing and opening gauntlet question

I studied the pics of the actual gauntlets and I think I figured out what they did.

On the right gauntlet, I used a slab of plastic to hold the two edges together, I then used JB weld to attach the flamethrower box to the side, using screws.

(generous helpings of hot glue, which remains a bit flexable)

One edge overlaps the other, so it has a mechanical type surface to hold on too.

I then used industrial strength velcro on the other side, and it "clamshells" together. It opens enough for me to slide it on my arm and holds pretty close.

On the left side, on the side with the box, I attached the the box to the top part of the gauntlet, with bolts and a piece of plastic.

This piece of plastic extended down a bit, to provide a "shelf" to slide the bottom piece in between the inside of the gauntlet and this shelf. Friction holds it in place.

On the other side, like the original, I placed a 1" strip of velcro on the outside of the gauntlet, and a strip on the inside of the bottom piece, it clamshells together.

I will post pics when I get home.

All in all, it's pretty stable, holds tight, and doesn't flex the gauntlets to much (mine are ruffikins (with the FG applied inside)

thanks for your rapid answer !
i m anxious to see the picture !
i have 4 half gauntlet and i want to fix them but i dont want to make error !
i think i fix the half gauntlet with a piano hinge.
i have another question : is the half gauntlet have the border on the second half gauntlet ? or just border next border ?

Re: fixing and opening gauntlet question

my first set was done by gluing one half together and velcroing the other half

gauntlet set #2 will be done with hinges on one side and magnets on the other.

for the magnet side, i picked up a pack of those super strong little magnets. i'm thinking i'll put those on the inside of the lower shell, and put a strip of metal on the inside of the upper shell.

the magnets *should* be strong enough to hold it through the plastic/fiberglass. we'll see though!

Re: fixing and opening gauntlet question

Magnets ... I never thought of that one! Hey Brian, what magents are these and where can one find them? Sounds like it may work, but the only problem MAY be shear or "slipping" (similar to putting too much weight on a refrigerator magnet and having it slide all the way down the door.) I don't know if there's enough friction to hold both ends of the gauntlet in place, but as you said "we'll see."

    these are the magnets:
    http://www.rare-earth-magnets.com/

i've actually got a novelty / gift shop near my house that sells them, so i was able to pick up a handful for about 9 dollars.

they are REALLY strong, so i don't think they'll slip, particularly if i use 4-5 of them on each side.

Re: fixing and opening gauntlet question

as promised - here are shots of my solution:

This is the "shelf" i bolted to inside of the left one, I also added more support inside the "box" with plastic braces.

The bolts are covered with hot glue.

Here is the left lower part, with the velcro attached:

and the upper part has the velcro in the same place as the original prop:

    The two together:

and here is why I made the shelf: (you can see the bolts here) -- the lower part will slide in between the shelf and the box, the friction between the two holds it in pretty tight.

I used the same technique for the right one, however, the two parts are attached together solid, they only split on the inside seam. They are bolted together with bolts that were sunk into the flamethower (jbweld) and through a piece of plastic inside for support.

You can see I also used bolts to attach the nozzle on the top - you should always use some sort of mechanical connection when attaching things like this, they are less prone to snap off.

Here is the velcro attached to the outside of the right lower part:

    and in the inside:

and here they are both closed:

I still need to add my electronics, finish painting and the attachment of the fire parts...

I based this type of attachment on the pictures of the actual props. The velcro is industrial type - so it should stay "sticky" for a while, but I can always replace it if needed.

if you have any questions - shoot them on over!

only one side uses velco -

on the right one - both parts are bolted together, and clamshell together with velcro.

on the left one - the bottom part slides up into the top part, and uses velcro one side to hold it.

    Who made your gauntlets? Ruffkins?

you shouldn't have to cut them at all if you use my method, they should just slide in together, than you just drill holes to bolt them together.

Re: fixing and opening gauntlet question

my gauntlet was mold on ruffkins i think but i dont know is the good or not good size for the border !

my gauntlet was an ESB version but it's difficult to see the good cut because i see many différent ! Can you understand my problem ? where i cut and where i dont cut ? and how fix the half part ?

Re: fixing and opening gauntlet question

    Ugh - their recasted?

You may want to just buy the real thing from Ruffkins, you will be better off in the long run.

I can't help you with the cut, as mine were orginal, and had no problems - you will have to make your best guess.
