First cut of the plastic! First go at Mando

Strabo

New Hunter
So I decided to make my first go a Trash Can set. I just finished cutting out the chest belly and neck (front) I should add that I will only be cutting out the left side of the breast plate for the LED of course....I accidentally traced it out on both sides because it was 2am and with a restless baby I am mostly zombie these days :D I still have to fine sand the edges and such, mostly a rough cut at the moment. I used Wizards templates as well, they were great!

Just wondering....have many made trash can helmets? I searched the helmet forum but didn't really see much outside of vacuform and cardboard....is it a viable thing? I'd like to try it but don't want to waste time if it's not the way to go. Aslo does anyone have any pointers/suggestions for building ESB gauntlets that doesn't include a resin cast or mold etc?

So I have the pieces sanded, and primed, sanded and primed some more, so they are ready for the first coat of metallic silver before the green. I'll put up some pics of that when I get done. Being a first time doing something like this (I have always made soft costumes....like Tuskens or Jedi robes) it's a little odd going but I think I'm on track. Now to find the proper colors for ESB Fett.....I know I saw a list on here somewhere.

Did a little more work on the chest plates, sprayed on an undercoat of silver, then ran over with an italian olive color, with tape in place for the chips, then hand painted the rest. It's all a first effort at chest armor but it went better than expected. Not too bad for a garbage can I don't think. My flash plays a little games with the images too :/ but nothing to crazy. It's 3 am now though so the belly Armor will have to wait XD I also put in some weathering using a sponge, which is visible in the second pic.

Not bad for a first try! The paint is looking good.

One think to notice so far: the center diamond piece should not be empty in the middle. You have to glue another piece from the trash can in the back of the center diamond.

For the trash can scratch build helmet I don't know what to say... I think it's a bit complicated to bend plastic then cardboard, but maybe it's just me. If you have the patience and the skill for something like this, then you can do it.

Thanks :) Yeah for the diamond I still haven't attached the piece to it. I plan on putting a little back plating on the center of it where I will have the mount for going on the vest too and paint that piece the proper color...so right now it's just a hole until I do hehe. I was thinking about plastic being hard to bend though the rubbermaid trash cans (40 gal I think) are rather flexible, surprisingly so. I was thinking of using them and possibly a wire mesh inside to hold into place and re-inforce, or I may just go the cardboard route :) Though I live in a place where it rains...ALOT so anything that absorbs water makes me nervous :p

It will be a while though before I get to that, I plan on doing the whole bottom of the suit first :)

Here is the armor again with the ab plate done up and dirty a bit plus a piece on the diamond now. I have yet to put on the logo though. The flash makes everything seem a little brighter than it is, especially the yellow, which isn't as bright as it looks :D
