Hi all,

So I've spent the last week painstakingly air brushing my fparmor, using all the misting and layering techniques I gleaned from the masters.

But now what?

Do I dull cote everything? All the armor? Do I topcoat it @ all?

Help tdh! Please!

Sean

I painted my FP armor and left it alone. I didnt dull coat and I think it looks fine, however im not an artist or pro when it comes to paints.

i have seen quite a few of the pros, ie, Mojofett, slave1pilot, etc, etc, put a final "dull coat" on their armor...i have used the testors dull coat paint from hobby lobby before on one of my helmets...i also believe that Krylon Matte Coat is one being used as well...hope that helps...

Clearcoat is good for a protective surface like against light rain and snow... Its a persoanl preference and not a must have. Also people shoot dullcoat at the end so everything has the same finish. But some people mixs paints and brands that have different finishes.

part of what makes good weathering is a mixture of different specular properties coming off a surface. A homogenous specularity or shine makes thing look rather newish. However, if you look at shots of the armor on-screen in ESB, the armor is very flat (partly because it is lit rather flat), but the metal bits do have a higher specular return than the painted bits. But if you examine the museum displays, the armor is full of a range of different specular highlighting from all kinds of scuffs and scratches just from being handled so much. In general, for ESB, a true-to-screen look is a very flat or very little shine on the painted bits of the armor, with some natural amount of shine on the metal/silver weathering. Dullcoats are what will give you this more accurate look.

I say dull coat it all, it really helps when it comes to your armor getting additional scratches and marks that you don't want.
