    ESB Gloves!!

Well I finally scored a pair of slave 1s custom Fett gloves! Although I blew $99 dollars on them At least I made out better than the last poor sap that spent $167 on the previous auction So what’s the general consensus on them, tell me my money was well spent? I'll give you my opinion when they get here but I just wanted to know what to expect. Thanks...

    $99??

    Um...no.

I paid about $40 for mine. And that's all I'd pay. They're nice, but they're just thin gloves with some extra material sewn onto them.

I expect to get a lot more for $99 of my money.

Re: Ahh yes brothers and sisters, life is good!

Well, worth is relative. I will say that I have a pair, bought at $95. I have not seen them cheaper, nor have I seen them better, therefore I am happy. That determines worth. If I knew anything about sewing I could probably make something I was satisfied with. But I'm highly satisfied with my pair and with the price I paid.

I won't say that they appear to be particularly complicated, bounty haunter is correct that they're relatively simple in design. Simple matter is that no one else appears to be making them

    You'll like them

I paid less than you did for yours, so I can't compare pricing, but I think you'll like them. They are nice and "puffy" like the originals. Mine fit great.

Re: Ahh yes brothers and sisters, life is good!

I love my pair, although I bought mine long before everybody knew how cool they were and thus paid far less. It is all supply and demand. If nobody was willing to pay that price, they'd be less. If you are going for a movie accurate suit (in appearance), you'll be content with these. I know I am.

A quick note: the screen used pair had a button closure, not velcro, but that part is covered by your gauntlets anyway. The look is accurate.

Actually 99.00 isn't THAT bad considering they really do make the costume lean more in the "accurate" direction, and they are not that easy to come by unless there is a current "run" going on,...which there is not(to the best of my knowledge). So enjoy them, try them on,and most of all,........get them DIRTY

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the gloves warn by everyone (Fett) in the "EVERYBODY LOVES THE FETT!!! BIG DRAGONCON PICS" thread are wearing the gloves that we are discussing. If not I know for sure Bobafettishes are.

Yep, I was wearing them in the Dragon Con pics.

I have seen some differences in the gloves, not sure if they are older and new models or something. I've looked at Goats, and they are a different material than mine for the body of the glove, but both are by Slave 1.

Really... That’s the first time I heard there are some variences in newer and older pairs. Mr Fett, are Goats older or newer than yours and are the differences improvements or lack there of???

Re: Ahh yes brothers and sisters, life is good!

I don't really know, as I got my pair FROM Goat!
He had a pair already, and got a second new pair as part of a package deal he got off Ebay, so sold me those ones. Since he had a pair already, I can assume his were the older model and mine the newer, but it could very well be the other way around.

Oh yeah, to dirty them, I went out into TK826's yard and put them on and ran my hands through the dirt, both front and back.

I too own a pair and LOVE them.

Looking at your gloved hands holding a Blastech EE-3, you start thinking "Maybe I AM Boba Fett!".

I certainly haven't seen anything on the market that comes close to their accuracy!

I didn't get mine on eBay though, I just sent an email and worked the deal out that way...

Well I think it clearly states in their auctions not to e-mail them about anything other than the actual gloves listed, so I never bothered doing that. Although I wish I would have, I probably would have nabbed them way sooner!

Well, when I got mine, I don't think they had any on eBay. I tracked down the email, and the rest is history.

Besides, if they *REALLY* want your business, they'll sell you some gloves, eBay or not.

slave1 will often sell gloves off-line for the final price of his last auction. It depends on availability though.

So my gloves have arrived and I can say I'm pleased . Once I really took a look at them they really don't seem like they’d be the hardest things to make but better him them me I guess. And to all of my ESB hunters, he also let me know that the dye he now uses makes them even better for our suits do to their darker coloring. In fact he also said if you were looking to use them for the ROTJ version they’d have to be lightened up some! So get them while you can because they're better than anything out there. To tell you the truth, it’s going to be hard to weather them up after blowing $95 bucks that’s for sure!!

If you are building a pre-pro Fett, then they are great. But if you are building either movie-version suit, then they are wrong. But hey, be creative and do what works best for you.

At least you'll have to remove the 7th Division (circle with hourglass) patch from the left glove and the TRADOC patch (circle with bar in the middle) from the right glove. Since they're leather, I don't know if you want to go through the trouble of making them the right color using leather dye, etc...

    Cool gun Phil!

    And a cool thread!

I know, I know, I don't get here nearly as often as I like, but hey, I'm busy making gloves and painting armor right?

I do sell the gloves off of Ebay for the cost of the price of the last auction OR the Buy it now price ($99), whichever is more.

Would I pay that? Heck no; these are just gloves for cripe's sake. I really consider my gloves to be far down the line in the list of priorities for the costume, and that's why I start the auctions at $65, a much more reasonable price. It just seems like more and more people are needing them for whatever reasoning. I've even had people get multiple pairs! It's a mystery to me. This Fett guy must be some kind of cult figure or something

Some info on the gloves: I've gone through about three different versions to get to where I'm at now, what with perfecting the dye, playing around with the accent patterns, getting the right base gloves, etc. Hence, the early gloves are not as accurate, but then they don't go for as much either.

I do not believe believe the original ESB gloves were gray material to begin with. I believe they white and then were dyed, just as I do them, and I believe they were reused for ROTJ, but by the time they filmed in the hot desert sun, they were sun faded.

Can you make them yourself? Heck yeah. There's no secret to them. You just have to sit down and do it. Some people just choose to go with a pre-developed item.

As with ANY piece of this costume, you have to make a decision on how much of it you can (and are willing) to make yourself, how much time you're willing to invest, how much money you're willing to invest, and how much effort you're willing to invest. If there is any one costume that will challenge you to juggle these factors, it's this one!

Easy for you to say. I've tried and failed to make anything resembling a Fett glove. I've also failed to see many, if any, come close to making near as nice gloves.

Cutting... dyeing.... sewing.... getting the pattern right. I'd assume that I'd have to put at least 6 hours into the job plus the cost of materials if I wanted to come close to something accurate.

Figure out how much your time is worth to you and you might even come to OVER the $100.

    Re: ESB Gloves!!

Hey, I paid $160 for PRE-PROs, so what do I know?

I LOST that $160 auction (my high bid was $160, actually), and offered ghostdevil the $160 on the gloves he was auctioning on the RPF. I used the auction as my basis for the price, being new to Fett and all. But hell, most of the money I spent was made back on ebay, so it's not as bad as it sounds.

Actually, I prefer them, they're my favorite design. I may go for "unique" before I go "accurate". They stand out more, and I never liked the "blah" of the white-to-gray ones. They disappear in the commotion of the costume. For ESB, it's fine- the gauntlets are "blah" too (ooh, I'm gonna get burned for that one! ). I never liked the ESB gauntlets or jet pack- too plain. But since I'm doing an ROTJ suit- which has always been amalgamated into the PRE-PRO for the action figures, I figure it's at least acceptable (for now).

I *MAY* try to see how light I can make them, though. I've got some ideas.

Don't forget to factor in that the white padded areas on the backs of the hands and fingers are handstitched on. Talk about painstaking.

True enough. It basically boils down to how inclined you are to do your own work. I have had a lot of people that did try to do it on their own and ended up saying heck with it and got some of mine anyway.

FYI, if anyone's considering bidding or buying a pair, though they can be gotten for less, the average price does stay right around the Buy-it-now price of $99 or close to it. That includes the off Ebay buyers. Incredible demand. People just aren't satisfied with using ski gloves anymore.

BTW, I really appreciate all the support everyone has given me over the gloves. Lots of people have emailed back to thank me when they got them, and I really enjoyed seeing the gloves being sported at Cel II and on the occassional website. My wife keeps saying I should have some sort of business card to pass out when we see a Boba Fett at a convention or something who doesn't have a pair, but I'm pretty happy what just word-of-mouth has done. Thanks again guys.

I've noticed in your auctions, you always say the gloves are for medium to large hands . . . . what if you're some freak of nature like me who has freakishly small hands? Do you make anything to accomodate us?

Because the base glove material is so stretchy, you'd have to have REALLY small hands. I have had auctions w/ the small size before, but they're just not that much in demand so I don't do them that often.

If you win an auction (or do a private purchase), you can always let me know you want the smaller size and I can make you a pair per spec as long as you're willing to wait an extra couple of weeks for them to be completed.

The same goes for the material to be used on the accents. If you want it to match your vest, you can send the specific material you want to be used and I will use that and take a little bit off your final price.

    Re: ESB Gloves!!

Here are pics of my Slave I gloves compared to Dean O's Slave I gloves. Mine are the lighter gloves and were an early version. Shows how far Shelby has come. Heck he may have even made more improvements since Dean's version...

I am hoping once I find a glove with the button closure wrist and get in the right gauntlet, back of palm and back of finger material that I can beg and convince Shelby to make me a set from those materials.

Yep, those are versions 1.5 and 2. I am now on version 3 (which includes slight pattern revisions and perfecting dye to be a uniform gray). Whatever version I do with the new material will be version 4

The funny thing is, I myself, do not have a pair of my newer gloves (or actually even my older ones for that matter).

Boy, you really DID lighten those up didn't you Art!

lol, KEEP THE NEXT PAIR! lol... Is it just that you don't have a costume ready so the gloves aren't a priority or is it a nagging in the back of your head, something like, "well the NEXT version will be the best and I'll keep a pair of those" and you just keep making revisions?

Heh heh. Left them in the back window of the car a couple days too long (doesn't take long in the summer Georgis sun) but I STILL sold them for $120 on eBay WHEWHOO!!!!

Shelby, we are def going to have to get together with this new material and see if we can't make version 4 the final revision!

I HAD a costume, but there have been so many new and more accurate parts available that I've been upgrading a LOT lately (i.e. gauntlets, helmet, jet pack), so there's not much of a finished costume left.

I had also refiberglassed my mannequin originally to be in a more dynamic pose (none of that straight as an arrow and leaning against the wall for my display). However, with all the other revisions I'm doing, it seemed like a good time to make the pose of the mannequin even more interesting. I've been doing lots of sketches on how I'd like to have the mannquin now and I've narrowed it down to two poses and variations of those poses. Even considered some crazy ideas like sculpting out a section of burnt Sarlacc tentacle to lay at our boy's feet on the base

Basically, I'm waiting for warmer weather so I can fiberglass again.

Any opinions on the base? I've considered doing a section of Tatooine packed sand dune sort of thing, or possible a section of skiff flooring.

And Art, haven't you learned that nothing is ever final on this costume?

    oh, a ROTJ boy...I hadn't realized...how...cute...

    lol

For rotj depending on the pose you've got I would go for skiff flooring. I like the sarlaac tentacle, but if you did that I think sand would go better.

Of course (rotj knock coming) you could just make a large pit in the middle of the room, sculpt a huge sarlaac mouth and just have a recording of a baby whining coming from inside. People ask what it is, say, "oh that's my rotj Fett" lol

    Just kidding,
I personally like the skiff floor better,

Yep, I would definitely have to lose the skiff flooring idea if I did the Sarlacc tentacle. Of course I could do mangled skiff floor "wreckage".

I like the ESB costume okay, but in the end I prefer the ROTJ suit. I think the gauntlets are nice accentuation to the maroon areas on the bucket. Also, there just isn't the great and extensive costume documentation that's out there and available for the ROTJ outfit.

I am going to do an ESB bucket, though, for the obvious reasons of it being a much more precise look. I like the combination of that w/the ROTJ suit, and there are a lot of promo pics out there w/ that combination.

Ahh, the good old days when people only did the pre-production suit. Nowadays I don't see ANYONE doing that version.
