ESB flight suit weathering help

I have never weathered cloth and was just wondering what the best way to go is. I haven't airbrushed but should I go that way since its not really detailed. Or should I go rattle can and mist it? And also with rattle cans does it matter if its enamel or acrylic or can I just grab any old flat black and grey primer and get into it? Any and all advice is welcomed!

I used rattle cans and just misted it. One was flat black and the other color was satin khaki. Still working on perfecting the blend but this is what I have so far:

So does it matter if its acrylic or enamel? I thought that enamel might make the cloth go a bit stiff or because you don't use so much it's ok? I'm just having trouble finding a suitable cloth spray.

I have read that you can mix some acrylic paint with water and use a spray bottle to apply it to a damp flight suit. I have not tried this yet with my flight suit but this is the method I will be going with. I can't find the link to the tutorial at the moment but its here somewhere.

Heres a link to a photo of my flight suit, for some reason I cant get a photo to upload. At first I thought I may have gone to dark but after looking at it for a while I think its ok. I just used flat black spray paint and for some areas I actually used a pot scrubber just to dirty it up a bit which did give it a slight dirty look. Let me know what you think. I can post some with armour on as well if you want.

Looks great, the entire costume. Couldn't tell how dirty the flak vest was but looks like it could use some dirtying up too.
Great looking suit Ausar....

Here is a more recent pic of mine...all i used was krylon black primer misted onto it in the key areas and lightly pretty much all over. Same with the vest. Below the knees has more than the rest in general.

Going to start weathering mine tomorrow....gonna try the same tips here. Krylon flat black primer, and I got some ruddy brown for good measure. Going to be extremely cautious with the brown though....

Yea that should work out fine. In the ESB promo shoot i didnt see any browns in there but a little here and there im sure would still look good :)

I actually need to redo mine under the knees as over the years its faded a bit.

Thanks for the tips and great job! Some of my weather has faded a bit as well. Out of curiousity, what about weathering on leather? Whats a good way to get some permanent looking filth on the leather components without destroying them. Like the ammo pouches / belt for example. Anyone have suggestions?

Yup, black primer. That is all you need for soft part weathering. Didn't use the brown at all. Got to hit the FS a little more. Probably was a little too cautious. Still have to hit the flak jacket too.
