ESB Dome and Main Armor - Suggestions Needed

Ordin

New Hunter
Ok.... so I am trying to lock down the correct colors and it is driving me crazy (short trip) lol.

I used Humbrol 78 on my dome and Humbrol 76 + 78 (2:1) on my armor.

It does not look like ESB Boba Fett green to me... Do I just need to weather more, what do you think I should do?

As far as the dome and cheeks go: The green on the screen-used helmet has a much more bluish/grayish hue to it. I used to use Humbrol 78 straight until I realized that in convention photos under multiple lighting situations it wasn't coming off with that dull hue seen on the actual ESB hero. 78 is an excellent base, but you'll need to put a few drops of blue and light gray in it to remove it's vibrancy and shift its tint.

The ESB armor: That still remains a relative enigma because of the inaccurate colors of those old set photos for ESB, as well as the movie's color grading. We've gotten in the ball park, but I'm not 100% convinced the armor's base color is an exact match to the helmet. I say this not only looking at photos, but Sandy Dhuyvetter and Co. (who worked on a lot of the pre-pro suits as well as ESB touring) told me they would take one color and then add a few drops of something completely different to change it up. That very well may have occurred when painting up the green armor before the mists of airbrush weathering were applied.

Hope that gives some perspective on the colors.

In that image the helmet looks lighter than the armor. Its very slight, but definitely not the same. Like Rick said, the armor is tough to match. I have been using the 78+76 mix and am happy with it, though im thinking maybe 78/76 even mix..gonna play with it some more, but i like the 2 colors im using. There is definitely weathering involved as well. the armor is more weathered than the helmet, or at least weathered differently. If your not happy with what ya did, by all means experiment a little! :)

Rick what blue and grey are you adding to the 78 to do the helmet dome/cheeks? I like the tone your getting with it, dont need to know exact mixes or anything, just which colors your using so i can play with it as well.
