ESB cape by cr4nky

Hey guys. I wanted to show off my ESB cape and maybe get some feedback on it.

As everyone know, it's hard to really get the colors right, but I found some fabric that looked ok, but it was to bright to start with. I misted the entire cape with black and also light brown to tone down the stripe a bit.

The weathering at the bottom need to be a bit more frayed, but I'll let time have it's go at that.

Hope you like it!

I'm not sure what you used for fraying the end of the cape but it looks a tad uniform (ie man made) mostly because all of the rips go to almost the same distance into the fabric. Perhaps if you vary the damage a bit more?

On a side note, I have found that sandpaper works really well for destressing fabric. I used it on my 12" Marmit Fett figure and it did wonders. You want to think like the fabric...become the fabric and imagine how it would realistically get damaged over time. What parts would rub on stuff and get snagged? It's like damaged designer jeans: they always rip them in the places that won't get ripped or worn. You want to go along the edges and the ends (like the bottom, which you did). Of course, I don't have pics of Fett's cape in front of me so this may be more screen accurate for all I know.

You also might want to think about soaking the entire thing in tea which can help grunge it up a bit and dull the colors.

But it's a really nice cape, I'm just trying to offer some suggestions. I wish I had it...so yeah. Great work so far!

Nice work Cr4nky!

Those pics demonstrate the problems with using pictures/screen caps as references! Direct and reflected light can make such a difference.

What guide did you use for the placement of the stripe? I have been trying to "eyeball it" myself - based on the width of the stripe and not being truly centred, but without luck to date.

Kimelius: Thanks! I used a picture of TK409´s ESB cape and the fact that I thought I read somewhere that it´s supposed to be 8" hehe.

DannyBoy7783: I agree about the tearing at the ends, that´s why I wrote earlier that I would try and let time take care of that one. The sandpaper-idea sounds like it would be a good thing, I´ll try that today. Also the tea thing... Might try that as well!

Thanks for the feedback! It´s always welcome:)

:confused Boy that could be misinterpretated in so many ways - like using a search enginge for 12" action figures

I'll give that a go - an 8" wide stripe located 8" from the right hand side.

As for weathering, washing machine and tumble dryer will give the fraying a kick start too. But dont over do it, otherwise you'll need to make another cape ;)

Dude.... Hehehe.

Yeah, I´ve had a few rounds in the washing machine at 90 degrees celius. I´m gonna do another round of washing and the the tea-idea and some sandpaper on the frayed ends.

@Jango´s Kid: Your cents are always welcome. I´m a total newb at all this and need all the tips and hints I can get bro.
