    Dec 21, 2010, 12:11 AM - ESB Boba Fett Jetpack: WIP #1

    Hello my fellow Fettnatics,

Im currently working on building my first ESB version of you know who. I started out with the jetpack, I did some research and took recomendation from others and invested in a Manofwar Studios jetpack. I am really impressed with the outcome. Here are some pictures of my project. Also looking foward to some feedback to help aid in this adventure!
Also, please excuse my immature posters in the background!

Nice work so far. The only suggestion I have is the yellow color. It is a little to bright. The yellow should be a darker mustard shade of yellow. You might can just add weathering to the yellow to achieve that effect versus repainting. Great job on it though. Looks nice.

Looks great!I onlky see 2 concerns:
1- I think the beacons lowest section should either be inserted in a hole in the JP or cut off. Looks like there are too may "tiers" there. Easy quick fix.
2- I agree the yellow is too loud on the tanks, and like Fettfanatic said, some weathering should take care of that. Although, from this HD reference screen cap i have from ESB, that i got right here on TDH, it really looks to be more a dull brass type color rather than yellow at all. So that what i did on mine. But either way, if its weathered to "lower the volume" it should look good.

Thank you both, I really appreciate the feedback! I'll be getting to work on these two issues this evening, then give a visuals update.

Im sure it will, just make sure you follow the directions. After sanding and trimming, you'll need to wash it good with soapy warm water and rinse off, and let all parts dry before priming and painting.

That is looking good...... job well done......

Only other thing I'd say is blend the silver so it looks a little more wear, if that makes sense.

    couple questions;
1.Are the fins mounted upside down on the rocket?
2.Does Ricky know that you posted his new cell # on the internet?

    LOL!

    Thanks Again

I think you did an absolutely fantastic job painting that Jetpack. I'll definitely be using your pack for reference when I order my jetpack.

I too recently acquired a MoW jetpack and am ready to start assembling it.

What did you use to attach the thrusters, missle and ring?

For the Thrusters, I just went to a local hobby shop and found a wooden dowel made my measurements and cut. On the inside of the thrusters I drilled a hole to the same measurements of the wooden dowel and made a perfect fit. I forgot to mention that I pre-drilled a small hole through both pieces so I could run safety-wire through for that added strength along with the glue.

This way allows both Thrusters to move together on the same axis.

The last two photos are of a piece of foam I had found lying around the garage, I trimmed it and inserted it into the pack. It acts as a buffer from the hollow sound the pack makes when being handled or bumped around, makes it feel a little more denser.

As for the Rocket, It isn't fully mounted, I just have about 2 layers of painters tape wrapped around the base to keep it from falling off. I currently toying around with some ideas for how I'm going to attach it to the main body of the pack. As for the ring portion, superglue worked out fine for me.

  20. Jan 7, 2011, 7:42 AM - Re: ESB Boba Fett Jetpack: WIP #20

That looks fantastic bro! I attached my rocketr by drilling a hole in the center of the rocket base and epoxying a bolt into it. and drilling a coresponding hole in the pack. It has a wingnut on it so it bolts on. the top half of the rocket is 2 pieces, as im sure you know. I used an earth magnet to attach them together so i can dismantle smaller and get all the pieces inside the pack when transporting and storing. Ill post pics when i get home from work tonight so you can better understand how i mounted the rocket.

You have done a realy nice job there , i know youre probly past this but ,
You may just want to weather the yellow caps a bit they look beter now but maybe a lite wash with a dirty mix of arylics, even water colours realy waterd down alostr to the point of brush cleaning water, and brush over it and let it dry then wipe of exes with a cloth,
    Just a thort

Thanks guys, I like the feedback I'm getting back from all fellow brethren. Once I put the kids to bed, I can start adding changes. I'll post pictures ASAP. Also I'm will be starting another thread of other past projects I'v done, ie Red 5 X-Wing helmet (not a kit), a ghostbusters protonpack/costume, and some other past projects. I promised BooBoo Fett that I would start that thread, so until next time..........
