BACKGROUND:

I guess the story's been told many times: lurking for a long time in here; decided to take the plunge; and here we are, at my first post and my first step to being my childhood idol.

My approach to this is to get the best quality parts in kit form, and paint them myself. This means helmet, armour, gauntlets, jetpack.

The others will be bought as is, or weathered if they offer the service. I will update this first post periodically to update all (especially other newbies like myself) on the progress and availability of parts. And also seek answers to questions that I will undoubtedly encounter during this journey. So please feel free to chime in, especially when anyone feels I have taken a step in the wrong direction. Here goes:

Helmet

Have ordered one from Animefan, awaiting delivery. I have ordered the budget helmet, not the premium Fettpride one. Truth is, didn't really see the premium one till after I ordered the budget one. Anyway, I have sent him another message asking if it can be changed to the premium one (fingers crossed).

Am intending to to get the light and servo kits from Jc27. Have PMed him on this, awaiting his reply.

Armour

This is quite a headache for me. After reading through several threads, it seems that the decision is between bobamaker and RKD. I have PMed and emailed to BM, but have not gotten any reply since. Seems from several threads that BM is really busy with lots of commissions. My question is actually related to sizing. Seems that RKD has 2 sizes, and I am more inclined to his V3 (medium). I am 5' 7" (1.7m). Does anyone know if BM has different sizes? Also, it seems that BM is fibreglass while RKD is ABS. What are the considerations between the 2? Is it true that GRP will have a more durable finish as compared to ABS? I'm worried about ABS "bending" by accident and cracking the paint?

What is a good chest light kit to get? I was looking up Tk409 and Shackman (as hinted on BM's website), but it seems these runs are not happening anymore? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Same issue as above. Not getting response from BM. Anyone has views on quality differences between BM and RKD?

For this, I went straight for Delta13mike's ESB belt. Looks amazing, and is functional.

Girth belt, Cape and Braid

PMed woodman for this. awaiting reply too. I wonder how different is the synthetic hair vs horsehair?

Jetpack and stuff

Decided to get my Jetpack from Manofwar studios. Have also contacted Bigdane for the harness, and have also ordered a set of Rings, Clips and Hooks from Full Metal Fett. Have also sent a PM to Dakota for all the metal greeblies that he offers for the ESB Fett.

Not sure where to get these from. Saw some on eBay, evolution prop store looks good. Are they reliable?

Bigdane, you must be swamped with so many orders it's confusing you! ;)

Fettronics for the chest display. BM armor is abs not fiberglass. Arkady for the flak vest. There are a couple options for gloves.
 
RKD'S abs armor is very sturdy and won't flex unless you want it too. I actually heated it up and reshaped a painted piece and the paint didn't crack or anything. I would not worry about that. As for the shin tools, stay far away from ebay. Three of the tools can be made from the real Paterson tools, which are still available. I got mine through Adorama. The fourth shin tool is some kind of metal pipe and most members make something.
 
Hmm... according to BM's website: "This armour is made from fibreglass with a gelcoat exterior..."

Have PMed Fettronics. Not very sure he is still doing a run based on his last few posts... fingers crossed.

Same with Arkady... didn't manage to find a thread (no pun intended) for the flak vest run, but have PMed him.

Which producers would you recommend for the gloves?

Matty Matt, your build is one of my inspirations at starting my own!

Good to hear about RKD's armour. Since BM is not responding, I shall try RKD. Thanks!

As I am not from the States, I'm somewhat unfamiliar with the term "Paterson tools", which is why I am trying to see if there are ready casted ones. Shall do more research here.

I believe the Paterson tools are easier to find in the UK. There are a few tutorials on how to make them into three of the four tools. I believe they will be lighter than cast tools, and the quality will be notably higher as well.
BM has not updated parts of his site, and is all ABS now, as it's just a better and more accurate product.
You should also contact Fettpride ( Fettpride@Fettpride.com ) for armor or gauntlet/ helmet information. Anything this nice has a wait time, but you get what you pay for. at your height, you shouldn't need armor that's sized up or down from typical screen sized goods.

I have indeed found the tutorial (updated my first post with the link) and bought the squeegee and chemical stirrer from Adorama!

Noted on FP. Will try to contact him. Honestly, between BM, RKD and FP, I think their quality is all good (from what I read), so the first to respond gets my business! ;)

Have updated my first post with sources of where I am going to get my parts from. Hopefully this will help other newbies like myself a good starting point to find parts.

Nice list, tterrell! I am also moving along getting parts and waiting for replies. :)

In the meantime, I am reading up on all the build threads, paint templates and attachment tips / tricks.

Related to that, I cannot for the life of me seem to find any template on how to paint the 2 ESB gauntlets, complete with the scratches. Any leads, anyone?
 
Currently just have to eyeball the gauntlet paint.....
theres enough images in the gallery to pretty well hit the mark.
 
Lol. The first of my items arrived in the mail! And it happens to be the jetpack harness from Bigdane!

The rest will be coming in drips and draps... sigh. Can't wait.
 
Which rangefinder light kit are you interested in? I'm planning on building several of each version in the next couple days. I need to order servos and couplers before the next batch of 3 servo kits are ready.
 
Well, I have ordered a FPH2 ESB bucket, and the stalk is not hollow. So I will need a standalone LED lights kit (turns on automatically when the stalk is down), and a remote RF servo kit that fits this helmet. The switch should be on the gauntlet?
 
The light kit has an onboard tilt switch. The servo kit has a wireless transmitter that goes in the right gauntlet and uses 2 push button switches.
As for a hollow stalk, there may be a run of hollow aluminum stalks coming from a fellow member. If that doesn't pan out, animefan and terminal Fettler make hollow resin ones.

When you say 2 push buttons on the gauntlet, I'm a little confused, since there are no buttons on the gauntlet. Do you mean those stick switches?
