ESB Blaster

I know WOF did an excellent breakdown of the ROTJ blaster, but does anyone know the rough dimensions of the ESB barrel? I am scratch building mine and just wondered the diameter and length of the barrel. I'm assuming the stock is the same, just mostly the different barrel.

the ESB blaster's barrel is just the webley barrel...no modifications are done to the barrel...the mounts for the scope are added to the barrel...the barrel is tapered, getting skinnier towards the front...so the 2 mounts' inner diameters are slightly different as well...i can get exact measurements of the barrel if you like...? are you just needing what extends from the chamber, or the chamber included in those measurements?

If you can, please. I have not had much luck finding a good kit. So I bought a PSX light gun that is a full sized revolver and a piece of PVC pipe. I also found chromed brass piping that I can slip inside the PVC to simulate the flash tube end. I downloaded the WOF templates, so basically if you can tell me the size of the flash tube end it would be a great help.

ok, so you have the dimensions for the webley barrel from WOF, yes? for the flashtube, you can find a template for the holes, from none other than...WOF!! =) let me know if you cant find that template...the flashtube extends out from the barrel end anywhere from 4.5 to 5 inches...i have heard 5, and then someone said that was too long, so...i usually do 4.75 inches from the end...now, keep in mind, that there is a mount for the scope that connects at the end of the barrel...so make sure to measure from the outer edge of the scope mount, not the actual barrel...make sense? the scope mount adds a little to the length of the "barrel" of the blaster...with me? i have seen some ESB blasters that have the mount actually on the barrel, so either way you decide to go, whatever is easiest for your build i guess, make sure to measure the 4.75 inches from the outer edge, whether it be the actual webley barrel end, or the outer edge of the mount there...let me know if you have questions...i can do a pic for ya if need be...=)

Ok, cool. Yeah I can work off that info. I was just gonna roughly go off my MR Vader saber, since isn't that the same flash tube?

ya, if it is a 3 cell, then not totally but would work, but if it is a 2 cell, that would work better...the heiland 2 cell flash tube is the closest to the real deal, the mpp flash tube...but those run hundreds of dollars...=)

Well with all this help, here's how mine is going so far. I cut the PVC pipe to 8 inches if I remember correctly and the chromed brass tube to 7 inches (so it can slide inside, exposing 4.75 inches). Based on a couple of reference pics I saw of the ESB, I noticed the two holes are in the middle of the 4.75 inches. So I replicated that based on the size and separation on my MR Vader saber. Here's here I am so far:





I made a stock bracket out of super hard PVC, 3mm thick and heat molded it to form around the one side of the handle. Once I sort out if Dremel will replace my burnt out 400 tomorrow, I'll smooth it and drill it on. Lastly, I'm picking up a 1 inch thick walnut board to make the stock out of. Bondo will smooth off the revolver area and I'll likely be building scope mounting rings from scratch out of Super Sculpty. I think the $16 Tasco scope should work to finish off the gun.

Sorry I have updated this. So much work and planning for CV, lol. Anyways, I figured out enlarging the WOF stuff on my all in one printer to 280% puts his grids at exactly 1 inch squares. So I enlarged the stock design to make a paper template. I bought a 10 foot cedar board for my Verpine rifle, so I used a leftover chunk to make this. Traced the template onto the board, then cut it on the scroll saw. Finally sanded down the edges so it's nicely rounded. The only real challenge was sanding out the spot for the metal bracket to go.



Then I used some wood staining gel in a walnut shade and coated the whole thing.



I have to take pics tomorrow, but I finished cutting and trimming my metal bracket that I made from some really solid PVC plastic. I painted it with Testor's buffing metalizer Stainless Steel spray paint. Turned out very well. I picked up a Crossman brand small scope for $8 at Fred Meyers. I also got a small block of Super Sculpty in black to handmake some scope rings and greebs. Once I'm back from CV I'll bondo the revolver part.

Buttstock assembled. I'll be mounting a sling swivel and adding screws when I get home from CV. I'll worry about greebs later (if I can ever find a maker..lol)

Well I have done much more work!! First off, I layered on a few coats of bondo to get rid of the old west revolver shape and more of the flare gun body. Yeah I know it's not perfect, but for my first try, this is the best I could get it:





They didn't end up as a mirror image and there are some things about each side I like and also dislike. But this will have to hold me over until a certain someone fixes his molds. I bought some stock greebs and painted them up. Here are the backsides...I forgot to take a pic of the topside.



The square has some detailing inside of it, so I bought some wooden things at Michaels and modded them to roughly match the pics I have seen.



I bought a real scope and have been having problems finding scope rings. I cannot by ones from guys on here, since I scratch built the barrel and it doesn't taper just right. I bought some sculpty and was gonna make some, but came up with a different idea. I cut two strips of 3mm sintra matching the circumference of my barrel and width of the scope mounting brackets. After 45 seconds in the oven, totally snug and lightweight scope rings!



A coat of primer.... (I love this Krylon gray primer)



Then a few coats of ultra flat black & clear flat coating...some assembly and wham, here is my ESB:



I forgot to attach my molex connectors. I have them and they are trimmed and painted. Also, I got to throw on some red on the top edge of the square greebs and was going to add some scortching to the tip of the barrel. I am going to try to find some greebs to add in the square, since I am missing three small tings in there & also the lever above the trigger (if anyone molds this, let me know, please).

the lever thing (piece from a V-8 engine model I think) I bought from woodman on this forum. Idk if he has any more

actually if you were to go to a marketstore and look at the kids toy version of it, even though its the wrong colors and stuff, it is oddly the exact diameter as it should be.

also i believe i found a pic that can show u the exact dimensions...lemme look here....

Yeah but I am building an ESB Boba. That rifle is far different than this.

Actually the dimensions are far from correct. The toy is significantly smaller.

I have handled the Hasbro blaster significantly. The barrel may be the right diameter (it's not..it's huge in diameter, but too short), but the rest of the gun is totally wrong. The handle is too small for an adult and the stock is too. It's cool toy, but to spend $30 on a barrel, I would rather buy a chunk of PVC and wiper blades and just make a barrel.

meh i guess if you want, i just did it cuz it seemed easier at the time. and it turned out decently for me. but to each their own right?

well i know it all around is smaller, BUT the barrel is the diameter i wanted when i bought it. plus i wanted something i could wire and make sounds that when modded, lengthened, and painted, would be nice to hold. that and ordering the mk2 flare gun is way out of my price range. i was more willing to part with 30 bux and some wood/black paint.

Don't get me wrong, the Hasbro Boba is a great base for a custom gun. ALot of my Merc friends are using it as a pistol base. I just couldn't since I have to be screen accurate for ESB.
