Stencils for paint, weathering, and dents?
As far as I know people just use reference photos and do it by hand.
Unless you've suffered massive head trauma that severely impairs basic motor functions and hand/eye coordination, or you just really, really suck with art stuff, then it shouldn't be too hard.

Probably not the answer you are looking for, sorry. But maybe somebody else who knows more than us will drop by give some insight.

Those are ROTJ stencils. However, the abdomen piece is still accurate for ESB.

Yeah, I saw that thread... I'm looking for ESB.

I know it wouldn't be too hard to do by hand, but I want to try and make the marks as accurate as possible.

    lol wut?

Sorry man, you didn't take offense to that did you?
I was just basically saying that unless you have absolutely no painting skills, or can't paint worth a lick, then it shouldn't be too hard at all.
Maybe I just used a bad example as to why one might not have skills, and how it could be hard.

That's a little rude. I've painted tons of armour and helmets before, but if stencils were available, I'd use them. Makes your armour and helmet more accurate.

    Possibly a 'little' rude there...
But, that said there is a severe lack of ESB armour stencil related info, so that in mind your comment about using extensive Ref material and by hand does stand?

TK5019 - I personally have painted mine by eye with exhaustive Ref material, it does work and I'm sure if you asked for assistance along the way it would be given...

    Hi guys.

I'm an illustrator and I'd have trouble getting the paint detail correct without the templates. Templates are the way to go.

I actually had an idea while reading this thread. What if you found a bunch of ESB photos, took the best angels (straight on shots) of each piece and scaled them to the proper size using a photocopier or scanner/computer?

All you'd have to do is tracing out each color as a separate template.

Again this is just an idea, I'm nowhere close to painting my stuff yet, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

    Good luck.

that's what I was thinking too. I think I may be able to pull up some photos that I have on my computer. Although, I'd need to know the measurments of the armor so I could scale it right.

Do you have Adobe Illustrator? Does that program make things easier? Al I have is photoshop

Just had an idea... is ROTJ armor the same shape as ESB armor? I wonder if I could just modify the ROTJ templates... just so I could get the right dimensions... that is, if whoever created them approves of me doing so

Guys lets keep our cool. Please watch what you post. If after you make a post and see ****, that means that is a banned word. Please go back and change it.

Also, with the written word, you can't always read what people really mean.

And yes, there are some of us who can't paint and are "normal" There are members on this board who are color blind or the colors they see are off. So, a stencil would be nice. Personally, I can't paint and will need to have somebody paint my armor. I could try but I would hate it.

    Tk5019,
Try looking for WOF's armor templates. They even have the % of how big the armor should be for each person's height.

If you don't have Adobe Illustrator, just grab a sheet of tracing paper and trace over your final printouts. Do a pencil rub on the other side of the tracing paper and tape the pencil rubbed side towards the armor. Redraw over your original battle damage lines. These marks should transfer on to your armor. Don't press too hard or you'll leave pencil line indents in your armor.

Again this is just an suggestion... I don't want to be held responsible if it doesn't work.

    Good luck.

the shape of the armor is the same, but the damage patterns are different.
