E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - All Time Low
This could be the worst thread out there (sorry for that), but I thought some of you may get a laugh and add to it. I was browsing E-Bay (for God knows what reason) looking at Fett stuff. Some of the prices and descriptions are so over the top for the trash that is being pushed, I just had a laugh and thought I would pass it on. Maybe I am just spoiled with my MOW, FP, slave1pilot, and BM stuff.
This one claims to be highly custom and painted by Don Post himeslf (yikes - really love how they do not discern between EP 5 and EP 6)
I also got a kick out of this "ultra-custom paint with guidance from ILM model maker for the discriminating Fett fan". Looks plastic and deformed. Claims that dent was remolded to be an exact replica of the original prop, but looks like somebody went to town with a silver paint marker.
Star Wars Boba Fett Collector's Helmet costume prop is a replicated helmet from the movie...... I don't even know where to start with this one.
Have fun.

Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - Seen Any Lately
When I see ads like these I feel lucky I found TDH and the people here. I discovered this place early in my inquiries about Fett so I think I was spared alot of heartache and misspent funds. I think though... its one thing when an e-bayer tries to scam someone... you expect that... but the "official" stuff... its an outrage what the licenced companies try to put out at such high prices. Anyway... just my .02 cents.

Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - Seen Any Lately
so... I can paint better than Don Post? cool.
-
Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - Seen Any Lately
"It is hand-painted by Don Post himself."
What a tool,
Since Don Post died in 1979, it's doubtful that he painted the helmet himself. ;)

Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - Seen Any Lately
I bought one of the "Star Wars Boba Fett Collector's Helmet costume prop " ones at disney hollywood studios. I don't know why I bought it exactly. I think just to have a helmet for the kid to play with. I think it was less than $25 new. $50 is a lot to ask for something like that. It was made of vinyl that deformed easily if it got warm, like in a car. There was also a problem with the cheeks. It's junk but the kids love it.
-
Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - Seen Any Lately
Yeah I saw the same thing at Disney and nearly got one for my kid too. It think they're good for kids, but the E-Bay adds sound like you are buying a museum piece.
Nathan..... that's funny about Don Post especially considering ESB wasn't released until 1980. I had to send the seller a note asking him about that....no surprise, no response. Ah, the things we do for kicks.
-
Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - Seen Any Lately
LOL- I asked himn the same thing
-
Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - Seen Any Lately
Nathan... check out his link now. The heat must have got to him because the add has not been changed from "hand painted by Don Post himself" to "a Don Post mask".
Good prevails, evil is defeated (unless you consider the lingering evil of the list price $189)

Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - Seen Any Lately
see? we can make a difference.

Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - Seen Any Lately
It is made out of the highest quality molded plastic, for decreased weight, easier cleaning, and increased duribility,(instead of bulky metal, which tends fluctuate in temperate too radically for the special paint to stick)
LOL
These things "fluctuate in temperate too radically"....like leaving them in a car....

Not quiet as good as the Don Post link, bu I got a kick out of this blaster posting that boasts the merits of carboard stock as a construction material. Aso says "Its close to the original replica." I guess it close if you want a Jawa blaster stock, a barrel that has an inner barrel (like the Alien of guns), cardboard heat sink fins (a close probably was not a good photo selection), a scope that looks nothing like Fett's blaster, and non-weathered. Outside of that, it's a dead ringer. God bless E-Bay...you can get anything there.

I saw that one the other day and thought, "the sad thing, is someone's gonna buy that thing." What a rip. :(

-
Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - All Time Low
the worst part about the 49 dollar one is that that usaully the one poeple buy for there halloween costume. but at least that guy charged what you would buy anywhere else instead of acouple hundred bucks like the other 2.

Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - All Time Low
While I'm one of the first to check out such auctions and snicker, I do it privately.
None of those auctions are mine, but I don't how appropriate it is to rag on the sellers here to potential buyers. Of course a seller is going to beef up their description, with the hope of securing the most coin. But it's up to the buyer to determine if it's worth it to them.
I'm all for talking openly about a bad buying experience--even if the person is a member here. But I don't think it's necessary to point out how many poorly written auction descriptions there are out there. Yeah, if someone is claiming a helmet was painted by Don Post, that warrants a calling out--though it's possible they meant Don Post Jr. (still quite a stretch of the imagination).
Aside from that auction, with its questionable facts, we should probably be mindful that someone might just be hoping to upgrade, they're selling it for what they think it's worth, and they just might be a member here. I think we'd all feel mighty low indeed if someone found a picture of our first attempts on the net and started debating over our estimated worth of it.

Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - All Time Low
SlaveI - Not bad point at all ;however, I think these auctions are particularly obscene. I hold TDH items to a higher standard. There is stretching credibility and obliterating it. TDH members listing their products on E-Bay generally do so because they don't want to pass along to fellow TDH members. Also, when they do list items, they list them with a description and price that let's them sleep at night. I am certain the people that would buy any of those items are not even aware of TDH. Like I said, you make a good point, but the thread was only for laughs for those who are in the know already.

Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - All Time Low
ya know, i wouldnt even post my first attempt in an auction, being educated after being on TDH for almost 2 years now...:doh and if i was going to, i would be doing some serious overhauling on what i was offering up...i see so many peeps getting burned on these ebay auctions...why allow someone to waste their money on junk just because i am afraid of hurting the seller's feelings? it offends me, in the least...:thumbsup if someone wants to spend their money it, go for it...but that doesnt mean i shouldnt be able to let someone know how i feel about it...:cheers

True, but I doubt the point of this thread was to save our members from these "tempting" items.
I guess my point is, is there much sportsmanship in shooting fish in a barrel? These really are pretty easy targets.
A quick glance at the pics will tell the buyer everything they need to know. If the potential buyer knows anything at all, they won't need us to throw in an opinion.

Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - All Time Low
very true...but those that do buy this stuff usually arent educated...thus, being taken for a loop...i would have never of bought a rubies helmet first time around if i wouldve known any better...
-
Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - All Time Low
Removed E-Bay links (didn't mean to break protocol.. thanks Taco). Slave I...what can I say, you won me over. I didn't want something that i intended to be light hearted fun to take a turn for the worse. TDH has been a great place for me and the people have been great. Keepin it on the positive.
Love the "fish in a barrel" analogy.

Good gravy, yes. Only a few of my first items were what I would consider ****. But I still wish I could go back in time and tell myself to just wait, better stuff will be coming along.
I love the fact that we have so many options to choose from nowadays.
Years ago, you could get a standard Don Post helmet. Now, you have to decide which of the quality makers you'd like to buy from. Having to make a choice is a good dilemma to have. :thumbsup

Re: E-Bay Boba Fett Trash - All Time Low
i wish i could say my first bucket wasnt a rubies one but at least no body tricked me in to paying hundreds of dollars.
