  1. Jul 16, 2012, 10:13 PM - DVH/FETTWERKS Gauntlet scratch build! (2015 updates!) #1

Hey all! Apparently i just cant stop making Fett stuff! LOL!

While i cant really work on commissions during the week, i CAN cut up cardboard while watching TV. I printed out the WOF templates and modded them as i went along, to get the 10" length down to 9.5". I couldnt print them smaller as they would have become more narrow and the keypad wouldnt fit. So with a little hacking i think i have a good base. Like when i did my Fett helmet, i will work over this with bondo to get the correct shapes. It looks rough, and possibly a little off...but i think it will work well for what i need. All i needed was a good starting point Once i get it as close as i can to the screen used gauntlet, i will take an inexpensive mold off of them, and further refine it. Then i will make a final mold. .....and yes i do plan to offer these once they are done

My ultimate goal here is to build myself a ROTJ Fett out of parts i made myself, while at the same time, offering my work to all of you here at TDH I will make the gauntlets, and then a jetpack, and ultimately, some armor. Most of you have seen my helmet, it will get refined a bit more and will be offered again soon!

Anywho, keep an eye on this thread, i will update it as i go along. It may be a little slow going at times as i need to do my commission work as well but i will try and update this as often as i can.

Got more of this bad boy done yesterday after work. Just layed down 2 layers of bondo and sanded with the sanding barrel on the dremel. Its really starting to take shape now. Obviously still needs work..but ill probably get this part done over the weekend, in between commission work

Gotta love WOF, the public can now have the 3/4 scale jetpack I sculpted last year for the ladies and kiddies! Good luck with this project, I enjoyed building the JP for sure. Dont know whats next for me though.

Thanks F4R, seriously, i dont know how much longer it would have taken me to build these if i didnt have WOF templates to start from. Dont think id even attempt the jetpack without templates lol. WOF is an asset to this community for sure! This is super fun for me, and i cant wait to get to the right gaunt! LOL!

Ok ..i decided to re-visit this build as well. Scrapped the old one and started freash with styrene.

So i decided to start with the right one this time....i glued the templates to some .030 styrene.

  11. 2 Weeks Ago - Apr 5, 2015, 8:50 PM - Re: DVH Fett gauntlet scratch build! (2015 updates!) #11

I assembled the whipcord housing. I did this by making the top and bottom from 1/8" thick styrene, and the rest was .030 styrene. I overcut one side, but it wont matter as i will fix it with bondo before i make the mold for it

I then moved onto the top portion of the Right gauntlet. Keep in mind, i am building this to take molds from so im not concerned with if this exact piece is wearable. Also working with the thin styrene i ran into a few small issues, so this may look a bit half-fast, but i will be fine tuning with a little bondo and i think it will work out fine

First i did the upper most part, pretty straight forward..

i added supports into it to keep it sturdy

I then moved on to the flanking parts and the foward "box"

I then added the "swoop" on the uppermost part, which in hidsight i should have done earlier lol

So here is where im at. I put this on a temp base as im going to make one from insulation foam (that pink stuff that comes in sheets)

Looks fun (well, everything other than the repeated Bondo sanding)! The flexibility of the styrene seems to wok quite well! I've contemplated using a method similar to create jetpack parts, needing everything from the collar up to the tip of the rocket. Think this application may work for that?

Haha yea i went overboard on the first try, which is why i ditched it lol.

Yes this will def work for that...im doing my jetpack rocket parts using this method. If you need alot of flex, like to make the cone shaped parts, .020 styrene may be better. If you put supports in it, the piece comes out very sturdy As with this though, i will be molding my jetpack parts when complete.

Thanks for the info, Lou! It's easier to afford screwing up some styrene than grabbing some 3D printed or resin parts!!

    Haha..very true!

Ok so i did a little bondo work on this and got it to this point.

And here it is with primer on it. The primer really helps point out the fine details that need cleaning up

There are a couple of things i need to fix but for the most part this section is complete

Ok..so i lied lol. Looking at the cervantes gauntlets that im using for reference and measurements, i needed to make a few adjustments. I actually had to chop this down a little bit in 2 places. right behind where you put the darts and thge middle of the forward most section. In total i took about 1/4" off.

Now my measurements and dimensions match the cervantes gauntlet very closely.

Thanks guys! I kind of started these as a side thing, because my OCD kicked in with certain details i wanted to see on my own gauntlets. Plus the satisfaction of having parts i actually made on my suit, is very rewarding to me. I started the jetpack because well, i need a jetpack lol. There is a chance though i may get these done first, and if there is interest, i can sell a few sets to help pay for the molding of the Jetpack , cuz that thing is gonna need a bunch of mold rubber lol.

Im doing all of this whilst working on commissions...im not sure if my wife knows who i am when i come in for dinner lol

Did a little more work on these today. I made the base for the gauntlet top from foam, carved and sanded to shape. I then coated it with bondo and stuck the top portion onto it. It still needs some fine tuning and tweaking, such as the outer side still caves in a bit too much so i need to fix that, and of course the standard smoothing and final shaping. But overall this is a very close match to the cervantes gauntlets and im pretty happy with it so far.

    My reference:
