Well...i decided to do something a bit different here with this. Using WOF templates as a guide, i am making my own templates by modding Alans to be even more accurate. Im using the reference pictures of the pre-pro pack, and some basic reference from my MOW pack in combination, to get proper sizing.

This is what ive done so far tonight. Not much, but its a start. Once i get the top and back done, i will be able to build onto that.

of course this is a first draft so small tweaks will likely be made.

The bottom looked "thin" to me, (from back to front)compared to the reference pics, and my MOW pack. So i added depth to it, and adjusted the panels that go around the fuel tubes accordingly. i also adjusted some of the angles of the panels to closer match the reference pics.

Good start so far! You might use the Heilman jetpack photos too (located in the Boba Fett ROTJ section of the Gallery), because those images are covering all the angles of the pre-ROTJ jetpack.

    Thanks guys...

Those pics the ones with the measuring tape in em Rafal?? If so, those are the ones im using Great shots from good angles. Basically those pics are what made me decide to do this this way.

Im priniting the templates out as i need them from photoshop at 63%. which, i know, makes no sence, but its actually bigger. (if i print it to fit the 8.5X11 paper, at normal scale, its 58% or so, and that gives me the 15" pack). So this should give me a pack closer to the correct size...around 16-16.5" wide. The templates get cut off a bit, but i can figure out what gets cut off.

This is gonna be tricky, but fun all at the same time Although im messing with the templates, i think this will be a bit quicker then the gauntlet project, and hopefully require very little bondo/filler. I have an anglke cutter for the foamboard i will be using to make the main pieces so i can cut the board on a 45degree angle and fit em togther better....at least, thats the plan lol.

The gauntlets im also working on require a bunch of bondo to get right, so right now those are on hold while i work on finishing up commissions and mess with this after work during the week and in between working on those commissions

    Thanks guys!

I guess you can call this weekend "jetpack weekend" lol. I will be working on this as well as doing some paint on a JP commission im doing. Then the work stops for about 2 weeks. I'll be at C6, and then when i get back, it is back to school rush at work which will go on until Sept 10th or so...crazy hours..likely 10-12hr days 6 day weeks...then my schedule goes back to normal....if you can call it that..30hr weeks once again. i really need to find a new job :/

Well i spent a good 4hrs on this today, and have decided to scrap what i have done. Nothing lined up correctly. Im thinking i should build it as the templates are, just a little bigger, and then mod that.....so back to the drawing board.

yep I know that feeling after all the hours I spent doing mine, and it turned out just a tad to small and things were not lining up, still might turn mine into a wall display as its went to far to scrap it, but I will use my MOW jp as a guide for the next one I build, when I find more time one day, hope the next one works for you DVH good luck.

ok..take 2 going much better....still much to be done, but this is a good start

  12. Aug 19, 2012, 8:08 PM - Re: DVH Fett jetpack scratch build #12

Ok so today i did some more work on this..

I did the detail "slats" Again, printed through photoshop at 63%. Mounted them on posterboard. In the reference pic, the bottom "slats" seemed to have a slight inward "bow" to them, so i altered the template accordingly.

Then assembled them with hot glue.

I then did the second layer "slat/box". I had to position them a bit lower than they would normally sit, to get them to the proper height from the bottom, going by the reference pics. Here they are both attached with hotglue. I also added a coffee can to the top, turns out it was only a hair narrowere than needed, which worked perfect since i was going to bondo over it.

Added the center strip, done the same way, with posterboard, and hot glue.

I then went in and extended the depth of the bottom to match the photos, and my MOW pack. I went a little overboard on the inset panel, so that will be fixed, but the basic shapes are there now.

I then started to bondo the pack. Obviously it needs to be sanded and then re-bondo'd and fine tuned etc...but this is where im at now:

thats it until im back from C6!

Everyone waiting for items from me, i will get back to yours when i get back as well!

Wow thats alot of bondo there, think you over did it just a little? Looks like your having fun though
  14. Aug 19, 2012, 10:07 PM - Re: DVH Fett jetpack scratch build #14

Not at all. I know, it looks rough but its not thick, except where the back curves into the top. It hasn't been sanded yet, obviously lol. Most of the sanding is done with a dremel so it takes me mere seconds to smooth it over. Just didnt wanna make a mess using the dremel 2 days before leaving for C6 lol. This is for a master to make a mold from so some extra bondo in some spots doesnt concern me, just the finished shape/finish.

    ..and yes..i AM having fun!

May want to use a mouse sander to keep a level surface....a dremel will sand in one small spot. I know what you mean thouogh on the curved part. LOTS of bondo there.

The "finger" attachment is AWESOME for this...when I built the 3/4 scale used the **** out of that thing...I actually BROKE one of the posts that hold it all together...need to order the part to fix it, or buy a new sander.

This is Bondo over paper and foam core? Has anyone else done this?
  22. Aug 24, 2012, 4:39 PM - Re: DVH Fett jetpack scratch build #22

Yep, well posterboard...not paper. i did my helmet this way as well. that came out great. Currently doing the gauntlets the same way, but with mat board as the base. im just doing these to take molds from so the longevity of it doesnt concern me.
