Jet Pack dolioshmolio's SEROTJ-AoSW- Jet Pack paint-up.. lots-o-pics

Alright back in action... i tried to post this last night but was just to tired by the time i finished :)

I finished off the red/wine sections
*I liquid masked all the silver damage in the red/wine section
*Then i hit it with the Wine 73
*I used the grey 79 and then used black 33 to weather this section

I have been waiting to do this little project.( Budget JP beacon) I picked up a resin jp beacon from a fellow here at TDH. I wanted to light it up, but it being solid resin made the process a little more interesting.
*I used a very small drill bit on a Dremel and just drilled holes in the slots at the top of the beacon. I just kept going around to each slot drilling holes super close to each other until they were cleared. Then i cleaned them up with some small files
*I started on the shaft next. I started with a smaller drill bit and drilled as straight of a line, as i could, through the beacon. ( this is kinda the scary part. if you do this just go slow and stay as straight as you can. you don't want the bit to come out the side of the beacon)
*After that i stepped up the drill bit size a little at a time until i had the hole the size i wanted

I had picked-up these schwinn Bike lights a few months back at Walmart(10usd). There is a white set and a red set with three different light functions; always on, momentary, and Strobe. I tore down the red set and put them in my Asok topper as a place holder until i get an upgrade, but I held on to the white set in hopes it would come in handy for the Beacon.

*I drilled a hole in the JP where the beacon is going to set
*I remover the rubber bit and one led off the schwinn light, and hot glued it inside the pack with the one led sticking through the hole i had drilled in the jp.
jpwip38.jpgjpwip39.jpgjpwip40.jpgjpwip41.jpgjpwip42.jpg

I haven't attached the beacon to the jp yet,but this video shows it in action.
all together it cost me about 20-25usd to make

what do you guys think?

Now on the the yellow bits . updates coming soon..:jetpack

The pack looks good. By the way I will be doing more Asok topper rf light kits in the spring if you would like one.

The red looks good. Really help show the white. I like your idea for the light on the beacon. Been trying to come up with a way to do that for mine. How easy is it going to be to turn it on & off?

Red looks killer man. Great job. I keep scrolling through the thumbnails thinking that you've hit it with the blue already. Nope. Just tape. Lots of tape.

thank you.. if you can get in the back of your pack easily .. it's really easy to turn on ... there is just a little button on it that you press, once for always on, twice for flash, three times for strobe .. i saw a set for sell on ebay but can't seem to find them online anywhere else right now

the yellow section ...

*first.. lots of tape..:)

*I liquid masked the silver bits in the yellow section of the pack.. including the damage that appears in the black ring
*I used yellow 154 and laid down a nice coat and let dry
*I masked off the black ring and used black 33
*For the weathering this time i used grey 106 ... then came back with a little black 33
*I put symbols on with a fine paintbrush and black 33

jpwip47.jpgjpwip48.jpg

its the final countdown *cue Europe cassette tape* I should be pretty close to done before this week end is out.. we'll see:jetpack

*Que brooding yet inspiring musical piece* I was so close .. you know? ... i could taste it... but there was a hint of bitterness ... something i couldn't quite put my finger on, but was glaring me right in the face.. and i knew .. maybe i had known the whole time.... but now?.. now it was obvious .. my jet pack needed a giant wooden moustache

jpwip49.jpgjpwip50.jpgjpwip51.jpgjpwip52.jpgjpwip53.jpgjpwip55.jpg

:D well i couldn't leave it alone .. before i could paint the blue section i just had to fill in the gap between the Rocket and back piece. Much like the piano key incident, I didn't notice this until i had started painting. I thought i could live with it, But as i started studying the blue sections to get ready to paint i just couldn't stop looking at it. It really started to bother me, so I made a Giant wooden moustache.. I tried styrene that i had laying around , but didn't get it to do what i wanted ( i'm not very good at that kind of stuff . unlike TG301 with the awesome builds :)).. But i can hack and sand a piece of wood. I still have to attach it and add some bondo to fill in the edges and what not ... but i feel a lot better about the pack now .. also while i was doing this i went ahead and put the little "L" details on the pack( i circled it in red in the pictures a before and after).. still the pack is not 100% , but i feel i got little closer to glory .. and that's always a nice feeling :)

I should be more updates this weekend or sooner hopefully.. I Just got my armor from RKD(very nice stuff) and i can't wait to start painting

Looking good, I can see why you wanted to change that. You have some very impressive woodworking skills & thank you for the compliment. Have you weighed your pack to see how heavy it is? What are you planning on using for a harness?

thank you... i'm planing on getting a Kcr7pr harness if available or something similar. My pack is fairly heavy for what it is..not sure of the exact weight(we don't own a set of scales as crazy as that sounds:)) the wood didn't add much to it at all(something i was kinda worried about when i first picked up the 2x4 to start carving .. but i've had some hiking/backpack experience.. enough anyway.. to know every ounce matters when something is attached to you for awhile:) I'm not sure if there is anything i can do to lighten it up.. It's one of the main reasons i want to upgrade one day .. get something lighter :jetpack

Looks great! The weight of a Man Of War Pack seems to be the biggest downside... Or any resin pack for that matter... I wonder who makes the lightest one.

Hello all .. rounding 3rd and headed for home... I still have to do a lot of final touches.. more scratching.. topical paint damage .. dull the rocket down.. etc.. etc but i 'll finish all that this Tuesday at armor night with the local 501st.. I'm pretty happy with the end results .. The CRL's call for a medium blue.. but the AOSW pack looks like it is more green than blue.. I went for more of a Blue to kinda match the ROTJ pack than the AOSW.. but damage wise I used the AOSW as the main reference ( i hope that make sense :))

*First i liquid masked all the silver damage. along with the AOSW and SE reference pics i used this http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/my-rotj-jet-pack-scratch-template-31758/ as well .. i still wish that thread had kept going
jpwip56.jpg
* then i used some grey 106 on the middle section of the Jet pack to bring in some of the grey ... i needed to go a little lighter with the grey but when i finish all the final weathering and such i think it will looks really good.
* i liquid masked the grey that i wanted to show up and then went on the the Blue section
jpwip57.jpgjpwip58.jpg
* I used Blue 109 as the main blue. I then weathered the blue section with Grey 106 then Black 33 .. light misting trying to keep with the reference pics.
This pic came out weird it doesn't show the right color really. not sure if it was because it wasn't dry, that my shop lighting doesn't seem to make for good pics, or what .. but this pic just didn't really come out and i can't go back and retake it:)
jpwip59.jpg
*After all that the removal of all the masking
jpwip61.jpgjpwip62.jpgjpwip64.jpgjpwip63.jpgjpwip65.jpgjpwip66.jpgjpwip67.jpg

Like I said above I still have a lot of work to do on the pack , but I'm pretty happy with the end results so far:)

Final Updates to come next week

I'm about to interrupt my Fett build with a Baby room project next week (my wife and I are expecting our first in May) if the project turn out well I'll post some pics .. its not Fett but it is Star Wars related(of course)

Thank all you guys for the Kind words and support through out the build :jetpack

This. Looks. Awesome!! The colours work REALLY well man. Love that blue. I agree, it has more of a greenish hue than a royal. Thanks again for spearheading a sweet pack paint up. Congrats and all the best with your upcoming baby :)

Thank you DP :)..we are excited for the little on on the way(a boy btw) ... i wasn't sure about the blue after i sprayed it .. but as i started weathering (esp with the Black 33) it really started to come together.. the weathering deepened the blue a bit .. its always weird to me before i remove the masking .. seeing one solid color and no damage .. its not until i remove all the masking that i could really see that its working .. and and breathe a sigh of relief:)

Awesome looking pack. The colors work really well. Like DP stated the blue is more blue green than royal but looks good. Reminds me of the stunt pack coloring but a little more vibrant.

Congrats on the upcoming baby arrival & best of luck. What will be fun is teaching him about Star Wars. My 4 year old son sees Boushh & says mom & he knows I am Boba Fett (even though I am not done yet, he knows) just what I call great parenting. He has grown up watching me work on the costumes, cherished moments in life.

That's because it's in Technicolor TG:D

Thank you .. I can't wait for things like that.. I gave my 9yo nephew a copy of The Hobbit today and schooled him in a little Tolkien knowledge and got him excited about reading the book(esp when he found out the dragon is not just in the movie .. it's also in the book) .. and I thought... i can't wait to do this with my kid...

Ok .. I'm calling it done for now:cheers.. I lightened the Rocket and lightened the grey 106, in the middle blue section, to look more like the reference pic.I added quite a few scratches. I still want to add some more Black 33 to weather the pack a little more( you can see where it needs it in the pics) and to widen the Black ring in the yellow section. I'm going to wait and do that while i'm painting my armor, so i don't have to make a mess now for just a few puffs of 33 when i'll be using it again to weather the armor. My pack is not 100% accurate so forgive me for that.

Thank you to everyone again:)

Accurate or not, this is a fine example of how a great paint job will hide inaccuracies. Simply awesome paint up.
