Do I need more weathering???

Hello Everyone,

As I await my Jet Pack to be delivered in the next week or so I am going over my suit looking for changes I need to make before I submit my costume to the 501st. I have been working with them already due to the fact this costume has taken me almost a year to paint and get to this point. My GML said he thinks I may need some more weathering.

So what do you think, do I need more weathering??? If so where...

Pay no attention to the fact that the suit is on just some PVC pipes that I threw together... ;-)

Necro looks like your post has been removed. I searched for it and when I clicked on the "ESB Fett 2.0 by Necronaut" I get the same error as your link.

Looks like it could stand some more weathering on the armor.light amounts of gray and black acrylic washes. The green on the dome portion too. Looks good, just needs a lite well placed "dirt"....

Thanks Syllander... I hate weather, it is not an exact science and drives me crazy!

:)
More an art than science....
Your armor looks good, very clean... very clean.
I'm a fan of washes using a variety of colours, (not just black) also I like to use cheap oil paints to break up the mono tone of colour.... same method used when painting models. (lots of spots of various colour, was almost away buy thinners) works really well at adding world use scum onto clean items... As long as you have sealed first and allowed it to fully cure you shouldn;t have any issues with a light was with oil thinners...

Thanks Zero for the input, that brings up an interesting idea.

Should I Lacquer with Flat Clear Coat and then Black and Gray wash over the lacquer???

Yes. and then seal again with dullcote. Be careful of lacquer as it can sometime react with your paint. use test strips painted like your armor to save heartache.

I have Dullcote so I could DullCote then weather then dullcote again...

excellent...( just imagine Mr Burns Voice...)
As I said previously Allow time for it to fully cure 24-48 hours in ideal conditions i.e right humidity and air temp... cold weather allow at least 72hours .
If you don't allow enough time you can inadvertently dissolve a layer, or you get a reaction between layers as the paints-sealers react against each other..

Dealing with the dull-cote, think very thin mists. Shouldn't allow it to form that wet looking layer, otherwise it gets to looking satin vs flat. I read that somewhere, dismissed it, then did the opposite on a piece of armor I was painting last year. Didn't hurt the under layer ( which is a definite possibility if done wrong) but wound up looking like a satin or eggshell paint. Wasn't a big deal, just had to let dry and mist a few times.

All sprayed paints should have a key pass ( that's the first light spray) you let this dry a little before continuing. What it does is give the paint a better surface to cling to and helps give a first protective layer against the solvents in the aerosol paints.

All of my greens are Humbrol and I used 78 on my dome and 78 / 76 (2:1) on my armor.

With that being said I think my dome is way to light and my armor is to dark... what are your thoughts?

I would not say the helmet is too light at all. Have you gently rubbed it all with steel wool? The armor may be on the bright side, but the steel wool would also help that. A few grey/black/ or brown washes may help weather a little and get the look you are looking for.
