Deriak's build

Drill another hole at the front through the gauntlet and flamethrower and stick a bolt with nut through it, that'll do the trick

Yea, that would work probably but the way I put the flamethrower together and reinforced it from the inside wont allow any more give of the thrower. It would either break from the inside or the part holding the nozzles in place.. It would need to be disassembled and relocated and hope that the pull doesn't shift anything and cause open gaps where I already trimmed to fit.

It isn't a really big deal I suppose... It will get me by for now. I will probably get another set and try again. This is my first time so I am learning as I go.. I figured something like this would happen. I am not upset about it.

Sprayed the other day and now ready to remove

It is as close as I can get using masking. This is so hard... So much detail that still needs to be done. I think it looks pretty good, just not enough damage

Spent the most part of my afternoon doing the details on the back panels. I think it looks so much better now. I am content with my work. I know it isn't screen accurate, but its as close as I am probably going to get. Thanks for the help guys.

Working on the dome. Layed the masking down on the silver the other day and yesterday I just sprayed the light gray, which I think is too dark going by the "paint by numbers" thread... I think the paint codes on 2 may be mixed up.. I will find out tomorrow when I spray the "darker gray". Will post pictures then.

Red paint came in yesterday from Lou for my gauntlets also. just need to mask them up. Boots should arrive any day now.

Were you planning on doing a remote servo on the rangefinder? I got one from jc27 thats lots of fun...his is set to work with the Alco right gauntlet switches.

Yea, I want to do that. I plan on buying from JC27 in the near future... I saw he is almost out of his last 3 in the cargo hold, but I need a jet pack before a remote range finder. I can swap switches later. I have already blown my target budget and I am still buying little needed things here and there. I just want the base done and then upgrade as I go.

News update!

So, my friend that is Chewbacca in the 501st is going to be followed by a photography group from Disney to do a documentary on Star Wars Fans at DragonCon next month. She is really excited and getting her Chewy clean and pretty for the camera.

Shot of current progress, I made a mistake with the colors.. I forgot to add black to the outer part of the damage. I will do that tomorrow

Shoes arrived!

I completely understand, especially about the budget part. My wife is still sore I spent so much money. I only mentioned it since it might be easier to install while painting it than afterwards. Salamander has one as well...although I don't own his.

Another thing I would really recommend if you plan to troop outside is a helmet fan..........I literally quit being in my outfit shortly after my fan died. They are a little on the expensive side if you buy from the boards...but if you are good with electronics you can make one for about 10 to 15$

HAHA, yea, my wife gives me that look when she see's another box in the kitchen... She really wants me to finish before DragonCon so she doesn't hassle me about cost, but I am still trying to keep a budget.

Yes, Fans are a requirement and my friend Gayle has a Clone trooper, so I know the pain of outside trooping. Her Chewbacca though is a lot worse because fans are difficult to do without having wookie hair going everywhere like a super saiyan
I am pretty good with electrical work and hooking up a battery pack, switch and running wires.

Alright, making some progress.

Helmet (6).jpg

There was a mix up with my paint when I grabbed the wrong color gray. The darker gray is suppose to be in another area. At this point, I am so frustrated, I just don't care and probably going to write this one off. If I have time before the end of the month, I will try and fix it, but til then. blah!

Gauntlets are finished expect the rocket.. It's already located, just need to paint it.. I don't know what yellow the rocket tip is suppose to be, if anyone can shoot me a recommendation on how to paint that, that would be awesome.

Friend 3D printed my studs.. JB welded nuts inside.

Knees are finished..

Progress is happening. My masking fluid has gotten a bit tacky and getting more difficult to apply. Gotta buy more so I can finish up my helmet. I am working on the cheeks right now.

Nice paint up on the gauntlets. Are you planning on putting in the switches on the left and right gauntlets? Here are the reference photo from the 501st's site for the left gauntlet.

Per the site you are missing the red LED light and at least 2 (three if you want a switch for the LED light) switches on the left gauntlet.

For the right gauntlet you are missing two switches located on the right side

I suggest slightly weathering your knee darts. They look very shiny...but it might be the photo.

Lastly don't forget that there are 2 more studs attached to the COD on the sides. They are hidden by the girth belt and side pouches...but can be seen when you move around. You need 6 studs and saw only 4 posted (4 top 2 on COD)

Yea. MLS is sending switches with my ee3. I do know about the COD. I had my friend print these out for me as a test to see if they will work. I already sent him an email to print out the other 2.

Thanks for looking out. I'll weather those knee darts a bit more. I agree, they are too shiney

Left Cheek Right Cheek
Cheeks (2).jpgCheeks.jpg

Trying to get that upper cheek color is a pain in the gluteus maximus. But, I think I finally got it. Not great but It was the best I could do as this was my first time ever trying to mix paint while trying to layer and mist... This is difficult...

I first tried Jayvee's was of doing it. I had purchased Tamiya Sea Blue last year but I realized, I didn't have Model Masters Schwarzgrun RLM 70.. I did not know what the Model Masters color was so I went ahead and tried Terminal Fettler's method.

It's funny, I saw that I was suppose to spay black 33 first and just mist the other colors on, but I though, maybe if I mixed the 79 which is a really dark dull green and added a like a few drops of black 33 to it, I could get that dark sea foam look. At first it wasn't dark enough, but I ended up making it too dark, almost all black, so I just sprayed that.. Then went ahead and added a lot more of 79 to the mix to lighten it up.. which looked better.. Then I went ahead and misted the 78 over that and finally got the color that I think is just right.

Next are the mandibles and then the ears. I think I may be finished with my helmet this coming up weekend... YAY!

ALso, I do know the Borden smaller hole is filled and needs to be cleaned out. Haven't gotten around to that yet. Trying to get the painting part out of the way first

Weathered the flight suit... So I started using the Dye method.. It looked good wet, but then after it dried I couldn't hardly tell.. I probably just didn't use enough..

I then went with the primer rattle can method... Was looking good. I liked it. No complaints but while I was doing that, I noticed the shorts I was wearing were really dirty and thought.. I need this look on to that...

Then it hit me.. Used Motor oil! I rebuild motors and pull transmissions out all the time and all my shorts look like dirty and grimmy as hell.. So I grabbed the oil pan that I haven't dumped yet and soaked a shop rag in it and started just smearing in the area's I needed. I think this way is perfect, because even if I wash this 100 times.. This oil is not coming out because I got 5 pairs of shorts to prove it.

Do you think I need to weather it a bit more?

I would weather the bottoms some more. You have an indoor shot (not outdoors) and you will notice his pants look way too overdone...yet when worn and outside the weathering is hard to see.
