Dents in Trashcan Armor?

Hello all,

I'm going to be building my second set of trashcan armor and wanted to know how to make the dents in the armor, I planned on using a heat gun but i didn't know what tool would be good for making the dents, appreaciate any input.

Thank you,

Vobio

You could possible cut the mold (dent you want) out of tin/aluminum with snips, shape it and then heat the trashcan up with the heat gun. Once its the right temp you could "hammer" the tin/alum molded dent into the armor to give the appropriate shape/depth.

I used round objects found around the house. Different sized marbles work great after heating the armor up with a heat gun. I also used a toothbrush travel case, anything could really work. Just FYI my armor was sintra though.

I've used a couple of methods to put dents in my trash can armor. The heat and warp method is nice, but I found that I had to do a lot of sanding to get the plastic smooth. I've also used a dremel to carve out some of the dents. If the plastic gets to thin, you can back it with some bondo on the underside.

I tried the heat method and it didnt seem to work to well, I also tried the dremel method which worked better, i was using the small sanding drum and very carefully went over the armor, seemed to work well enough just a little time consuming.

Yeah, the worst about about the heat method is that the plastic basically has to melt a little bit for the dent to remain, at least in my experience. The plastic is going to smear no matter how careful you are, so that requires some cleanup afterwards.
