definitive spray can color?

Has a spraycan color been agreed upon for ESB armor? I did a search and found several members using the Sage Green from the AFFO$ helmet list, but then I noticed someone else say that the armor is actually a darker green than the dome/cheeks of the bucket. So I get out ESB and start playing with the color settings and I think it *does* look darker...but the armor in the exhibit pics looks like it has three or four shades of green all darker than the green on the helmet. What gives??

UPDATE: ok pics (finally lol) Krylon Italian Olive misted with Krylon Hunter Green, weathered with flat black spray and greens/grays/browns pastel chalks...sealed with Testors Dulcote then light coats of Krylon clear matte to get that little bit of "sheen". Shoulder bells are Krylon 1804 (Bright Yellow/John Deere yellow) weathered the same way.

The armor colors is US MED green, if your going through the testors site, and yes its a darker color than the ESB dome/Cheeks

Yea there is no real spray can color as the real colors were airbrushed. So anything that isn't what Tim Allen said will not be quite right and you will get 1000 differet answers as to what to use that is kind of close.

Definitive?? No...

Close...

ARMOR COLORS

Base layer - Silver
Second layer - America's Finest Yellow (Home Depot)
Third layer - Rustoleum Satin Sage Green (7720)
Top layer - Rustoleum American Accents Hunt Club Green (7944)

Notes: From the MoM pics that there is a *slight* shine to the armor... I found that after a couple of layers of acrylic wash, the satin finish of the spray paint dulled down nicely.

thanks for the replies all...I went with Krylon Italian Olive satin 3522 (same color as non-rangefinder earpiece from AFFO$ list for the airbrushed challenged) misted with Krylon Hunter Green satin 3502 just because I like the drying time as opposed to the Rust-o Sage Green, and it is a bit darker. Have a little weathering left to do but will post some pics just for future reference! Ciao!

That's superbad GCN...love the armor. Makes me wonder if I should dirty mine up a little more. I really need to learn how to use the airbrush that has been in my closet for a year now...my dents need some carbon scoring around them!!!

Oh and what color are your gauntlets? Spruce green also? I thought I read somewhere (man I say that a lot) that the gauntlets appeared to be lighter than the armor...but I could have totally made that up lol...but seriously that costume is frickin awesome! What type of bucket is that also?

I think you did a great job already on your armor! I'm not so sure you need to dirty it up much more if at all. It looks great! Believe it or not there can be such a thing as weathering TOO MUCH. ;)

I think you did an awesome job with the spray can colors. Bravo!

Wow thanks for the kind words guys! I think I am gonna leave the weathering as is because I've noticed it doesn't show up as well in the pics as it does when I am actually looking at it...so much for "the camera doesn't lie" I guess!

If you look at TK409.com, he also used Rustoleum Spruce Green spraypaint for his armor. (Actually that's what most all of us used in the "old days".)

Actually I did use Spruce Green on my gauntlets also, I need to repaint them in the correct "Olive Green" colour, same with my jet pack. I hope to have a new jet pack and set of gauntlets before C4, so that way I don't have to redo anything!! I'm such a packrat, I'd feel bad about repainting them :( hehehehe

I was just wondering, although I am aware the colours of the helmet and armour vary would it be too bold an assumption to use the same green as helmet dome/cheeks and then darken them with the acrylic wash for weathering. Would they end up a good match?

GCN no it is sewn on with green thread and big stitches...in that light they DO look like staples lol. I should note that I just repainted the armor when I realized that the ESB damage is different from the exhibit armor that I used as reference, and the color was off...it looks pretty good in that pic but in person it was way too olive drab for my taste, especially after watching ESB SE on DVD and noticing how the armor looked (at least to me) much closer to a forest/hunter green than olive drab, especially in the cloud city shots that are well lit. I went with straight Krylon Hunter Green and brightened it a bit with green pastel chalk...here's a bad pic (in a poorly lit room with flash) and it almost looks blue...still have a good bit of weathering to do as well.
