I mist over mine with my weathering colors. Heavily thinned and it works great. Spray from a good distance and build up the weathering until you are happy. Here is the result of my recent weathering using this method.

Edit: The shoulder bells are not my completed photos. I actually did some additional weathering to them so they are a bit more weathered than this photo.

Chest decal started off like this.

I haven't weathered mine yet, but I've read in other threads that you may want to weather your decals BEFORE you apply them.

I have always weathered mine after applying them and have never had a problem. I'm sure weathering before is just as good though.

I've done weathering after I apply them so it blends more naturally.....

I weather after applying with artist's chalks sealed in with dullcote.

Sounds good I don't know where I read that, but I would have assumed blending would look more natural if applied afterwards.

Yea definately AFTER you apply them so your weathering is consistent with the armor piece and the decal. Think of it like this, if you are standing next to a blast of some sort, the soot would go evenly over your armor piece and the decal..wouldnt make sense for the weathering pattern to be different on the decal than the armor That may just lend to it looking more "applied" rather than natural weathering.
