Ok your gloves were they white at first? You said you used an acrylic mix. What's it a black and white mix with water? I painter mine since they started off white. But mine came out too dark.

My gloves are MOW. They come dyed the correct colour for ROTJ.

I used an acrylic mix to weather them. It's subtle, but it's there

    Hey guys!

Here's a quick video on the voice changer that I've been playing around with.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7cOJ0GyYso

    Supplies

    1. Aker 1505 Amp (with supplied microphone, speaker and male to male cable)
    2. iPhone 4s
    3. Voice Synth App from the App Store
    4. 4-pin to 3-Pin audio mic/headphone splitter (DON"T USE THIS - UPDATE BELOW)

The audio sample in the video isn't the greatest - recorded on an iPad, plus my own voice kinda overpowered the speaker and I didn't want to get feedback.

Things to REMEMBER: You MUST connect both the speaker and microphone cables BEFORE you plug in the splitter to your phone. Otherwise the speaker works without the mic (for some odd reason). Also I have not found a way for this to work with the phone locked. I'm debating putting some type of protector over the phone to avoid buttons being pushed while in my pouch. Finally, ...if you receive a call while using this...well...maybe you should set your ringtone to the Imperial March or something

Other voice changers can be oodles of dollars. The splitter was $8, the app was $5. Not a bad deal.

IF you are interested in this.....GUESS WHAT....I can EXPORT the presets that I made and EMAIL them to you! You just need the Voice Synth app to install them!

Let me know what you think!

    **** Update *****

I had several audio issues and after much trouble shooting, it came down to the splitter not being compatible with my amp setup. If you are using the Aker system, this is the best splitter:

iPhone 1/8 inch electret condenser microphone and headphone adapter - 3.5mm 4 conductor TRRS Male to 3.5mm TRS Jacks

It's more money, but I got the results. If you get the PRO version of the app, you can lock your screen while the app is still running. For more info on my research for this, see this thread: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/w...32/index2.html

Informative! Thanks for taking the time... Interesting. I'd like to hear it under a helmet to mask your voice a little more! I've been looking Into this 1505...

    Update!!

My oh my...it's been quite some time. Since my soft parts have been done earlier this year, I have been working on my partner's Boushh costume which is almost complete, and I started a TK (all that is left is building the armor). It's been tough not working on Fett, but I managed to do a few things. For one, I weathered my cape a bit differently. I asked Woodman how he gets his capes so awesome and all I had to do was take a hammer to the cape over some rocks to get a similar texture. I'll show more detailed shots on that later.

From what I understand, my helmet, armor, and gauntlets should be shipping from Fettpride soon. My jetpack got changed to MOW and arrived within 3 weeks. Stellar work, although it's a lot heavier than what I imagined. Hah!

    Here it is!

I have all the aluminum pieces for it, so I will be selling the unused resin shortly along with any other bits and pieces I don't need.

Another sweet addition to the costume is the smoke unit that I want to do a video tutorial on. It's from MrRCSound: http://test.mrrcsound.com. He designed a smoke unit for RC planes, so I figured something equivalent would have to work for a jetpack. I corresponded with him for quite some time and he came up with a great alternative. I was never interested in a C02 setup for jetpack smoke. I wanted something more 'misty' and 'fluffy' ...something that looks like engines being shut down/cooled off. The C02 was barely visible I felt, and had more of that 'blast off' look. Mini-fog machines for theatrical purposes were ranging in the $600+ zone...some going as high as $1800. This unit was $200 which included some mods he did specific for the pack. Like I said, I will do a video on how this whole thing works, and how I want to set it up. But be ready...it's gonna be kick ass.

Now I'm debating whether or not to wait for my armor to start painting (I wanted to start with something easy, and the armor I thought was a good starting point)...or do I dive into the jetpack? It's my first time using an airbrush, I've got the space (my school's art room)....I think I might. I wanna get painting! I think the next 501st event we have in my local is in February, so that'll be a good marker for time. Stay tuned, ladies and gents...

Keep up the good work. Are you coming over for Celebration? I'd love to see all Fetts on deck for it...

I have a Fett goal of my own for the show...

I'm going for sure! All 4 days

I'm debating whether or not to bring it. Coming from Canada, transport is the only question. Plus, I'm not staying in a hotel - my brother lives in LA so we are going to drive in every day to avoid the cost. Other issue would be storage of the costume as I doubt I'd want to wear it all day.

    Jetpack Rocket

Had a fun time today working on the rocket. So far, everything for the jetpack is sprayed with aluminum. This was the first time that I cracked open my airbrush that has been waiting patiently in my closet. Actually, I was going to start yesterday, but the supplied air hose was completely wrong, and me not knowing anything about airbrushes...just took it down to my hobby shop to get it fitted and tested.

I still think I've got a lot to learn about paint consistency. I went through about 1/3 of a tin of black just on this one area. I have a feeling that I could get away with much less.

This was also my first time using masking fluid. I used the handle of a thin paint brush to apply the masking fluid. I probably should now use a toothpick or something thinner. I found that I got a lot of round edges when I removed the masking fluid. After the paint dried and the masking fluid was removed, I took my blade to the paint and weathered it up a bit more. I also used some steel wool to gently rub away down to the silver layer.

What do you think? Should I add other earth tones or would that be going overboard?

And just a quick FYI....because this is my first time ever working with an airbrush, working with masking fluid...and doing anything this complicated before...I am shooting for something 'in the spirit' of Fett's jetpack. If I tried to get every scratch correct, I would be at this way too long. The helmet and armor I will be much more precise, especially with stencils.

Looking great Aaron. I'm not overly familiar with the weathering on the ROTJ Fett, but it looks good to me. You can always go back and sdd some craft paint later if you need to grime it up more. Not familiar with an airbrush myself, but sounds like you gotta get the process down. Sounds like a lot of paint compared to what's down on the pack components. May want to get some cheap water based paints and practice on some scrap/practice material until you got it down?

Yeah, I did some tests before I hit the rocket, and it looked ok, so I didn't want to waste more paint trying another test. I don't have a good container to measure the amount of paint to thinner ratio - the airbrush only came with the gravity fed cap so I had to use a small jam jar. My hobby shop guru was telling me that ratios aren't as important as the consistency because all paints are different. He said that it should have the consistency of whole milk....well...I don't really drink milk... But I imagine thick but not too thick...it'll just take some more practice to get the best groove

Just food for thought the missile and the thrusters base layer isn't silver it was white....take a look at a jango pack and that's what bobas pack would look like clean...pp1 jetpack shows this very well also.

Yeah...i just saw your post on another thread regarding that. Don't know what I'm gonna do at this point. The light reflected in the pictures I looked at looked like silver. Ah well. I think I'll just keep trucking'

After a few hours of my eyes going wonky from trying to sketch out the damage as best I can, and then mask it all with a toothpick....

Most of it has already dried clear, but you get the idea. Tomorrow I paint the blue!!

Man that has to be a monumental task, all that weathering on those ROTJ jet packs. So far, it looks really good to me.

This is one thread that is serving me as a guide. There's alot to making a Boba costume and for a newbie like, this is definitely helpful. Awesome build thread!

    Thanks guys!

Wickedreamz: When I'm finished, what I'd like to do is create a "table of contents" on the first post and create links to different parts of the build. While it's beneficial to read full build threads, I find sometimes it can be a bit more helpful in directing to specific areas.

As soon as I get home from work, I'm throwing down the masking tape and getting out the airbrush. Can't wait!

What brand of masking do you use?

    - - - Updated - - -

Also, how did you attach your thrusters? Did you do the PVC bar across the inside of the jetpack?
