Clothears Flightsuit and Vest features

So after the rather souring experience of JimmyC's showoff thread I realized maybe people dont fully understand the additional accurate features they are getting with the Clothears costume parts.
I will show off and explain a few of these features and be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. I do not represent Clothears but having worked with them I am fully qualified to answer any questions about the features and details of the original costumes that have been incorporated into the replicas.
I will also explain some of the differences between the original costumes as well as ESB and ROTJ replica specifics.

I may not always have time to answer the same day but I will try to post of some neat details regularly to help people understand.

I do not wish to debate pricing in this thread except to say that some people are happy to own a Ford, and some people need a Bentley.
They are both automobiles and either may be considered "better" for the wants and needs of the buyer. But one does cost more to make and has more features, top quality materials, and is produced in smaller numbers.
You cannot expect them to cost the same.

So lets start with the most obvious. Finally people can have accurate ESB or ROTJ vests. Not even talking about the accuracy level the rest of the vest achieves, but the seam on the side alone can make a difference between the two most popular versions of the suit.

Both these seams are being offered in a replica vest for the first time.
The ESB type double seam can be seen on all the other vests except the ROTJ. While there is slight variations in the details and construction of this type of vest, overall they are very similar. The ROTJ is the odd one with that single, curved seam.

So people who are doing PP1, PP2, PP3, ESB, Special Edition, can all rejoice that an accurate double seam is finally available.
ROTJ people now have a much more accurate looking option.

Next I'll discuss the sewn "slots" in the vests; what they are for, and if you should order a vest with or without them.

Hey Keegan, thanks man! I didn't know if I should go into it. I'll post a link over to this "in depth look"...

Honestly as expensive as these pieces are, once im down to my ideal weight, i will very like splurge on these pieces as my final upgrades to my ESB suit They really are fantastic. Once i retire from trooping it, it will be a display suit, so its worth it for me. When i do my ROTJ build i will likely go a less expensive route for the jumpsuit, but may still consider the vest from them.

Again, great work with working with them Keegan to get something this accurate!

Clothears Flightsuit and Vest features

I've made the car analogy myself in regards to the clothears jumpsuit as well.

I think that Keegan did an amazing job researching all of this. He really did TDH and the fandom proud. He also persevered till he finally found somebody willing to tackle this project.

I'll definitely be snagging a set, I just need to be happy with my shape and sizing first .

Thanks for the kudos guys but to be clear Clothears was already working on this and doing a fine job. I offered my help and had input to offer that others had provided in some instances. They just knocked it out of the park and always listened to my ridiculous requests for improvement. Can't say enough good about those folks!
They do their homework on everything they make and even though I did a huge amount of research and discovered a some new details and shapes, it is they who deserve the credit for getting the final product as close as possible.

I haven't forgotten about updates here, just been busy with some Fett armor and chest lights.
More soon!

Re: Clothears Flightsuit and Vest features

I was going to talk about the vest slots but something different would be better suited in light of the new 501st CRL for ESB Fett.

As a requirement for advanced accuracy "Level 2" for the flightsuit it states:

For level two certification (if applicable):

• Legs should have 5 rows of stitching at bottom of legs.

Not all the original flightsuits had those stitches at the leg bottoms. Some appear to have a simple hem; for example the Supertroopr/PP1) and the ESB appears to lack the 5 rows as well.
The AOSW suit does not have the 5 rows either and although I can not prove it is the ESB flightsuit, I know it isnt the Supertrooper/PP1 which suggests to me at least a few of the original suits had just simple hems.
The MOM suit is the original ROTJ flightsuit and does indeed have the 5 rows.

1527089_652264351478398_1570432016_n-jpg

Additionally the ESB ankle ties are sewn to the inside leg while the ROTJ is on the outside.

This has been your "Fun Fett Minutia" for the day. Please advise your detachment leaders or however it works if you have a Clothears flightsuit and are denied "Level 2" status.

Re: Clothears Flightsuit and Vest features

Really after info on the fabric for there vest, and is it made with a soft cotton backing like the original or did I see some pics that the interior is the same material as the outer and some other pics would be great,
I'm having my own vests sewn with a range of different materials, however I think I may get one of there's as well,

Re: Clothears Flightsuit and Vest features

Currently they make the vests with the same material inside as out. This was done because they have their fabrics custom dyed in large amounts and the lining fabric should just about match the shell in color.
I am hoping they start making their vests with the cotton lining for that extra bit of authenticity; it only shows if someone wanted to roll it out so it sticks out from under the front as some original vests do.(A small but important detail for you doing PP2) You might be the first as I've never seen someone do that detail.

I just sent some tackle twill and some cotton twill lining over to them and they are making me a vest from those materials. Tackle twill can't be found in the UK and some sources here in the states make a far stiffer version than what was around in the past.
But as you know tackle twill was not originally used. It's still the closest thing I know of though.
I dyed some cotton twill to match and sent that too. I'd be glad to go over what dyes I used.

Also of interest to you; I just sent a drawing over to them of the PP2 specific vest sleeve which like all vests is a bit distinct.

Oh I think Im going to bite the bullet and just spend the extra money with Clothears, heres a question though Keegan...have you gotten your FS from them yet? Did it require any tweakig to get "just right"? Or was it good to go out of the box? May as well splurge a little for the best....

Re: Clothears Flightsuit and Vest features

I do not have a FS yet. I've been working on other things. But now that I'll be getting the vest soon, the FS will be right behind it.
I understand they do ask for quite a few measurements with your order and I'm sure by now they have enough experience that they've worked the bugs out.
I saw JimmyC put his suit on over Skype and it looked like a perfect fit.

Re: Clothears Flightsuit and Vest features

i will get one of these eventually for my display suit....assuming by then they are still making these. When i retire trooping my ESB fett im gonna put it on a mannequin thats actually ya know, the correct size (i.e. not chuby lol) and for that...i want absolute perfection. Maybe i'll get one as soon as i can afford it a mannequin wont gain weight LOL!

For the record Keegan, the 501st bounty hunters guild said they changed (or are going to change) the CRL to 1 or 5 rows of stitching at the ankle...just a FYI

Re: Clothears Flightsuit and Vest features

See the fact that the Pp2 vest shows very similar color on the lining which we can pretty safely assume is cotton , tends to draw me to the conclusion that the material on the outer may be a natrual product, now ber with me here, if the vest is dyed at a latter date to its construction the dye colour would not match the inside as out if it was a dye for synthetic it would play havock on the lining ,
And for cotton it wouldn't effect the outer at all,
Just a theorie as my mind changes every time I think about It

A sound theory.
The original items were not dyed well. You can see splotches of blue on the PP2 vest. I always thought that meant it was a synthetic that didn't take dye well. But some things have changed my mind about that. No least of which is Clothears fabric expertise.
Unfortunately the material still has not been found.

For those of you like me who did not know anything about “Clothears” please check out their site. Amazing Craftsmanship!
Boba Fett « clothears costumes

Let me start by saying the coolest thing about the PP2 flight suit, is how it looks as if they stored it in a can when not in use lol too funny just wrinkled to hell.

Keegan your hard work and attention to detail here is very much appreciated by everyone. I’m sure you have addressed these issues with Clothears so the following questions are more for my better understanding than anything.

Q: PP2 Flight Suit (FS) pics show a pleat or very distinct line running down the upper and lower arms and the lines matches up perfectly. Will this be a feature for the PP2 FS?
1-png
Q: in regards to the pleat or flap/seam across the waist, is it curved or pointed to meet at the zipper? And will Clothears work to incorporate this flap/seam into their PP2 design.

2-png3-png4-png
Q: Does the PP2 have the same Velcro straps as ROTJ or ESB?
5-png
Q: How soon could we expect a PP2 FS and Vest from Clothears? With C7 coming, I’m hoping to add both products to my build.

Thanks Brother

Re: Clothears Flightsuit and Vest features

Just wanted to let people know I'll be away for a few days and can't respond to this thread. So if anyone asks me anything in that time I am not ignoring you but you won't be answered.

Darth Voorhees; glad to hear they amended that. Not that you see the trouser hem except on ESB which does not have the 5 lines.

Syper, most of what you're talking about is already in the suits I think. The arm seams could be more pronounced and I had asked them to improve that. But it's a very minor adjustment.
As a bonus while we're talking about that area:
The FS has extra seam material on the inside so you can get the lighter area to the sides of the seams. This can be seen on original suits including the PP2.

The waist seam is curved.

Yes the PP2 suit has ankle ties but I am not sure if you can tell what version. I'll have to check my reference. Remind me in a few days.

Clothears tells me they are busy until about the 21st. They have their own comic cons going on..
After that they will have time to look at the PP2 sleeve drawing I sent and we'll see.
