CK's awesome ROTJ Fett build thread!!

New Hunter
Finally, my first step! Now I can start a build thread! :)

The cape material (according to 501st Centurion criteria) is here!! Now to figure out which chunk I need to cut out... Anyone want the rest when I'm done?

Also, this thread is crazy helpful, and shows a good picture of a cape chunk... Question, though, are the holes supposed to be there on a ROTJ cape? I'm really hoping so, because it looks like a .45acp JHP and two 9mm JHP's would make the perfect raggedy holes. I'm pretty sure ILM/LucasFilm/etc. didn't use handguns to make those holes, but why not have a bit of fun with the build? :D Also, I'm going for Centurion level (cuz go big or go home, right?), so things have to be 200% on this build, etc... Which brings me to a funny rule of mine:

If you find something isn't quite right on my build, PLEASE say something, and DON'T be afraid to hurt my feelings, because I have none!! I traded them in to my recruiter when I signed for Infantry many many moons ago... :)

I found a neck seal in the cargo hold that should fit (last I measured quite a few years ago, my neck was about perfect for the measurement listed by the seller). If push comes to shove, I can always have my mom or sister hem it.... Since I've not touched a sewing machine in almost 20 years, I'm pretty sure I can't make a Centurion-level anything, so I'll have to rely on the skills of others on that front...

So, does anyone know the specific hunk of tent half I need to cut out of this big ol' thing, and if it should be double-layered or a single panel?

Thanks!!

Well the first thing is that with bounty hunters the high level is Infamous and Notorious. Centurion is for TKs.

There is a correct section to cut out to be screen accurate however for 501st CRLs you just need to cut it 30x36 and for level two it needs to be from an army half shelter. So you are already as high as you can be on the scale.

Ah, okay. Noted about the acceptance levels. Thanks. :)

Also, I've never submitted to 501st... This is my first costume, so I have no idea what the grading process is or what my local garrison will be looking at specifically, aside from what's on the 501st character sheet...

Thanks for the clarification. :)

Your local garrison should only be concerned with the first level of entry. From there you apply to the BHG (Bounty Hunters Guild) for higher levels.

That's exactly the info I was looking for! Thanks!! :)

Does anyone know the proper size (or an estimate) of the "small grommet" mentioned in the above tutorial?

K, so progress, sorta.... I got the proper cape chunk cut, but I couldn't get mom's archaic sewing machine to stitch properly... Sister has a sewing machine (not much newer than mom's) that I'll try tomorrow.

So, the first and probably the simplest piece, and it's already fighting me... But, at least I got the piece cut out! :p

Anyone want the other half of the half? I can't post to the CH yet, but I figure if anyone wants the other half for a slightly-less-than-screen-accurate-but-still-level-2 cape project, it's here... Also, a person could make the "correct stitching" pretty easy, if they're better at sewing than I am. :p

Most home sewing machines are great for craft projects, dresses and light weight materials, but when you get to canvas and heavy weighted materials you will be breaking/bending needles and most threads tends to break every few stitches. Worst case is you may be able to find a local canvas or upholstry shop, Sail loft (I grew up in a sail loft) or garment district that can do the stitching for you, They should have machines that can handle almost any material/cloth and can handle the heavier duty thread that will not break going through something like your canvas. Hope your sisters machine works for you, but you may have options if it does not.

Actually, the only problem I had was the thread tensioner not properly keeping slack, so I was left with big loops of thread hanging out the bottom. This stuff isn't very heavy, and cuts like butter... It can't be any heavier than BDU...

Still alive!! Just sorta turned my attention toward a different part of the costume for now...

I've got another greeblie and a block-type object for the stock to print, but it's mostly together and hit with high-build primer.

I also attached the barrel tip with a bolt so's I can paint and weather this one with the rest of the barrel for the best look, whilst having an orange tip to wear in public. Also have a scope in the mail...

Also also, I've got a DVH Fettpack in progress last I heard from DVH, so I'll have that to play with sometime soon as well.

I'm planning on getting a Fett helmet kit from RS, though it's quite spendy, so it'll take some careful budgeting....

But yes, this Boba is still being built!! Just, really slowly... :p

A bit of progress... I got the EE3 glued together... Thanks to my Prusa not shooting some of the fine details too well, I decided to drill the screw heads out and replace them with real screws. Thus, the shiny bit in the grip. The stock is not yet glued, as it gets a different finish (wood vs. metal, etc)...

Update: So I've been sitting quietly, collecting pieces... I don't want to get into anything too deep until I've got all the bits and pieces scraped together.... Luckily, now I have stuff to tinker with whilst waiting for funds... :D

DVH Fettpack, Cruzer gauntlet kit, blaster still needs more assembly, and cape (not pictured)... This might take a while..... :p

I am trying to juggle a few different projects, this being one of them, so progress is good and slow... Worse, my main income is going away soon, so I'll probably not be doing much in the way of adding to the parts this summer... Was hoping to be Fett for halloween this year, but it may be closer to Ep VIII before this piece is done....

Is the stock 3D printed???
Yep! Everything but the scope, but that's available on Amazon for 8 bucks... :p The files are on Thingiverse.
