The armor of the ROTJ and ROTJ SE dont have the same dents...the SE is ESB repainted the ROTJ has a dent on the right chest plate and then the left and ab are differently dented. It gets easier the more you learn...Ive been working on Fett for over 4 years now...and theres always things to improve on. It wasnt to long ago I noticed that there was two holes in the missile on the jetpack and before that no one was putting them on their packs...now people add that to their builds. Just take your time if you want a quality build

Alright, I did a redux on the chest pieces last night. Hopefully they look a little better. I took the inside edges down to about 1/8th, similar to the pictures I found in RKDs magnet tutorial thread. I also changed the silver to a better looking aluminum. Sorry for the shady lighting.

Alright, another question. I am sitting here liquid masking my right breastplate and staring at the MOM photos for reference... RKDs armor has a dent in the lower center of the breastplate, but I do not see it in the MOM photos. Maybe it's green and I'm just not seeing it? What gives?

Well, under my advice he and fettpride added that. The actual ROTJ armor in the film had that dent...the Special edition armor ( ESB Repainted) did not have that dent BUT the damage weathering was done the same so that same spot still has silver with the yellow around the damage....here is reference for that dent....and on set, I used to be full ROTJ, and when I was working on my own armor I noticed that issue of the dent not being there...

Thanks for the compliments guys. F4R, thanks for continuing to help me out! I assumed there was something going on there. At first I was worried I got the wrong breastplate, but after looking through some other threads and the ROTJ gallery, I did see the dent and other people with the dent, so I just assumed it was okay. I've got yellow drying on both plates right now, so progress is being made.

I have a question about masking fluid and I couldn't find a definitive answer in the search. I am using MicroScale Mask and I think I did something wrong. Firstly, I am unable to see it underneath the yellow in about 75% of the areas I put it. Obviously I could have put too much yellow down, but it's still not what I was expecting. Second, in the areas where I was able to find the masking fluid and remove it, the yellow on it's edges wanted to come up too, essentially ruining whatever detail I had. I think my issue there might have been not sanding the aluminum color (it might have a clear in it), so the yellow wasn't too determined to stick to it. SO, was my issue that I didn't apply it thick enough? Seems like it would be a pain to apply multiple layers of it on all of the detail. Also, the yellow paint had dried for nearly 24 hours, so what gives? I am considering switching to toothpaste.

Two things. If you try and paint over silver with out any keying (light sanding) stuff doesn't stick to it well...

Also the yellow is actually topically applied. After the green. If you're wanting to be accurate and save money on yellow paint.

I use a masking fluid that's probably thicker then that stuff. If it isn't thick as at least milk it's not thick enough. And what I would do it leave the bottle open a little while

That's interesting. Thank you for continually replying and helping me out, BTW. I am not sure I would have much luck with the topical application of the yellow. I think I am seriously regretting buying all the spray paint and not just learning how to use a dang airbrush, I even have the mini compressor. I was going to completely abandon the masking fluid for toothpaste, but I will stick with it. I will try to foolproof it by taking a picture of my masking job before painting over, so I don't lose it under the paint.

Edit: Just started looking at the WelshWarrior videos and his video #13 shows how I stenciled my armor below (albeit on a helmet). I didn't know about those till I just saw them mentioned in a thread, and he's a pro! I forgot to mention that I could not easily skew Rafal Fetts templates to work with RKDs armor, which is why I make my own outline of the armor. Again, I'm sure there are more intelligent ways to go about this process.

Okay guys I've had good luck with this since learning a little patience for it. Here's what I got for my right breast plate as it stands...



Now I know it's not the best, but I'm happy with how far I've gotten it as an extreme novice. This is also after having repainted several times. The first was because I didn't like the silver and needed to make my edges better. The second was because I ruined my paint job with inaccurate yellow and invisible liquid mask.

In case any other novices are looking for how things might be done (since I had a bit of trouble finding definitives on here):

I switched from a liquid mask to using cheap Ultrabrite toothpaste and a toothpick and had much better luck. I wasn't able to see the liquid mask under my initial yellow.

I tried using Rustoleum Sun Yellow... DON'T! Far too light. Try your hardest to find the Rustoleum Line Painting Yellow because it is perfect.

As for getting the pattern onto the pieces: I got a semi-round object to match the contour of the rear side of the breast plates, one I found something that was a decent base for it, I slid a plain white piece of paper in between the two and traced the armor piece. After that, I cut out the shape it had given me and traced the shape onto tracing paper. So, after that, I went to RafalFetts templates and traced some of the details straight from the computer screen. I also went to the Magic of Myth gallery and added/changed details as I saw fit. Now for the best part (I initially tried the method of drawing heavily on the rear of the tracing paper, flipping it over, and using the end of a paint brush to push the graphite onto the armor. Talk about the poor-mans graphite paper) Cut out your finished tracing paper stencil and loosely tape it to the front of the armor at the top and bottom. Now slide a small piece of graphite paper between the stencil and the armor and trace each of your details. I used the writing tip of a mechanical pencil to do this, just without the lead. I couldn't find anywhere on TDH where this was spelled out in simple mans terms, which is what some of us need to see sometimes.

I hope this helps someone out who needs it! Looking forward to doing the green tomorrow!

P.S. If you're careful with your stencils, you can just add the next layer to them a re-use.

Got the Rustoleum Hunt Club Green onto the right plate. Waiting for my decal to show up before I weather it. Thought's on my layering so far? Anything I should consider doing differently on the other plate? Put a comparison below. Kind of scary looking at how different the greens look because of lighting, weather, and the dullcote. Hopefully it will start to look a bit better.

Alright, there they are painted, but not weathered. My wheat/F decal hasn't arrived yet, so I have to wait. Any tips for weathering with a spray-can? My brother recommended a black wash to dirty them. Don't know if there's a trick to the particular black mists or just pray-and-spray.

Can someone tell me whether or not this looks decent? I definitely put too much black on at first, so I ended up having to polish it off. The first picture is no flash and it is definitely not nearly as green as the picture would have you believe.
