Boots CA BOOTS/ Weathering

Should you use a cheese cloth to soak up paint? In other words, after you brush it on, should you rub it in with a cheese cloth to soak up excess paint and to make sure it penetrates the material?

Yeah, not really needed like Bubba Fett said...

**And here lately I've been applying all coats with an Airbrush...seems to go faster and no "Brush Strokes" ;)... however you have to mask/or tape down the spikes, sole, and black ribs of the shoe so no paint gets on those areas before weathering later. (y)

once again Alex... amazing paint... truly what one should aspire to do.

The shading is amazing and very subtle changes as it moves around. Very realistic and natural. I've seen it on other pieces you have painted and posted and it's really a talent. You make something very difficult look very easy...

thanks spidey. this technique works on leather boots too, for us poor folks!!!

i saw a pair on ebay was thinking about getting but im going have to wait till i get the armor done first heh but i mite just go with jango's boots instead

Those look great!

I'll look to this tutorial when I get my boots.

BTW, does anyone know if CAboots still stock these? They don't show up on the website anymore. I e-mailed Joey, but getting an answer usually takes som time :)

Yeah, saw the two pairs on the bay, a little too small I'm afraid.

I'll give them a call if my mail isn't answered this week. I've got more than enough time before I'll need them.

Thanks

why are the colors still so off?

I don't wanna hold up the thread, since this post was made a few months ago. it's just that I thought it might help on people who have the same doubt about the CA boots.

I don't really think the colors of the CA boot are off... I think you should regard them as what the colors were when Boba bought them...

Basically... regard them as an empty canvas, all you need to do is either wear them for years... hunt some scumbags... freeze some punks in carbonite... or simply paint them up a little.

And I wouldn't even call it painting up, because it's merely rubbing on some accents and dirt colors.

I just love the way myn came out and I found them very comfortable while trooping... Ow... I still haven't got too spikes!!! shame on me...

Hello,

We only have sizes 7 and 7 1/2 in stock.
We probably will not be getting any more in stock until the beginning of next year, but if we do we will be selling on line.

Please include all previous emails with your response.

Thank you,
Anthony

Hey all, I combined Spidey's tutorial w/pics into a word document if anyone wants it, PM me with your email address.

I just did it so I could print it out and have it to reference when I work on my boots so I don't have to keep running into my office to check on my computer (y)

I did a modified version of this tutorial on my old pair of Mark Cheng Boba boots tonight. I actually changed the entire colors of the Cheng's darker so they're more accurately colored now. I used the charcoal/white mix on the main body of the boots, then on the center stripe used a mix of charcoal/black but then went back over the stripe again with the rag I used to wipe on the charcoal/white to tone it down some.

I colored the side elastic panels first with straight charcoal color, but then went over it again with the charcoal/black mixture I used on the center stripe.

I couldn't get my purple/black areas as perfect as the museum suits, but there's a little in the front sections where it's supposed to be.

I'm planning on drybrushing the little detail lines on top of the black piping of the boots as seen in the museum exhibits. What color should I use, silver?

Before weathering, here's the color difference. Top boot is the original lighter Cheng boot color, bottom boot was with the mixture of Charcoal and White as in the tutorial. I made that color mix and added water and then dipped an old rag into it and rubbed along each section of boot a few times until the whole surface darkened.

And the dead rise mwhahaha
Sorry for necro posting guys, but this thread is so helpful for any noobs that are starting the weathering process. And im my opinion weathering on fabric is alot harder than on armour, So thank you for this spideyfett. And I know I havant been here long but I seriously think that this should be stickied as i know its goin to help me out aswell as others too, and shouldnt get lost with the old threads.
