Welcome to BudgetFett No. 4 Webley & Scott Mark I Flare gun resin Kit Interest thread.

What is BudgetFett? It's me trying to offer Fett items to those on a tight budget.

OK, I have recently purchased a genuine Webley & Scott Flare gun and am in the works of creating molds to cast it up in resin. I am hoping to offer full Webley Kits to TDH members on a tight budget. If you are interested please post here. This is for the Webley ONLY, no Greeblies, scopes etc. are included for a EE-3 conversion. Hotshot or Sidewinder do offer these parts.

I will post pics as progress goes.

Update: Molds are done, resin has arrived and I am currently testing them to see how they hold up and how well the casts are coming out. Once I am happy with the final product, I will start taking payments. I can only do a couple casts at a time.

Definately interested. I'm also curious as to how you found a flaregun. Most in the states have been in collections or are in the possession of law enforcement for riot control.

While at the movies, someone stole the Jack Skellington Magnet off my car. It was a gift from my Wife that I had for several years on my car, so we where both really heart broken to see that it was taken. I know it sounds cheesy, but it had more sentimental value than anything. I have searched for this magnet to replace it, but all I can find are NEW variations of it.

I will be casting the barrel to allow a flash to be inserted. I am also hoping to cast up two versions of the stock, a clean one (ROTJ) and one with the chip taken out of the end (ESB). So hopefully when all said and done (crossing-fingers) you can choose between ESB or ROTJ.

Edit: this option is not yet available

i was wondering if the guy who bought that webley on gunbroker was a member here. you got it for a great price :thumbsup dont forget to fill in those markings from WWII on the stock before molding :)

Quick update:

I am using what time I have after work doing all the prep work to get all the frames ready. Hopefully I will be able to offer some of the greeblies as well (but they are not my main focus..yet). I will be getting some filler for the stock to remove the markings making it nice and purty.

I was hoping to start pouring the RTV this weekend, but I will be out of town at a wedding so that may slow me down a bit. However, if I get all my prep work done before the week is out, I might start to pour before Friday.

Once the molds are finished and the resin is ready to go, I will let everyone know and start taking payments for those still interested.


On a completely different side note, I noticed how different my ESB cape colors look in each photo (top of page). It's the same cape, but different lighting and one is a different camera. So hard to judge accurate color matching with some photos.

Update:
Molds are done, and for the most part they look good. Will need to clean them. Time will tell if I have to redo one or two of them. Hopefully not.

Now I am going to have to get some resin, cast one or two up to see how well them come out, fix any issues, then once I am happy, I should be ready then to start taking payment for all those interested. I am hoping that all this will take place before Halloween. But no promises.

Oh, as soon as Run 2 hits 30 people, I wont be adding anymore to the list till all orders are filled.

As far as International shipping costs, I cannot give an accurate quote until I can figure out the final weight of the package and its delivery time. In the meantime you can go to http://ircalc.usps.gov/ and guesstimate a weight for the package to your location and see what the average is.

I am still pondering this one. But you're right, the bracket needs to be stong enough to hold the stock. When I made these several years ago the stock was heavier than the real wood stock ('cause solid resin will do that) and it put more of a strain on the light braket. It held, but it wasn't as sturdy as I would have liked. I have a few ideas on how to tackle this, and reinforcing it is one of them.

However, anything I come up with would be an additional cost to me, and I don't have anything in the Budget for that. But what you could do, is sand down like 1/8" of the resin, and get a 1/8" thick alumimun plate and cut it out to shape and glue/screw it down and it would be a great way for added strength.

Have you thought about using a foam core to lessen the weight and casting resin around it? I have thought about it myself with one of my projects, but haven't worked with it to see how the resin works around it yet. Has anyone else tried this?

How about dropping a metal rod ( like hanger wire or somethin?) or two through the brace peice?

I have seen it done before in an R2-D2 kit that I bought several years ago. They had used Styrofoam in the center of the leg to make it lighter and to use less resin. I was wondering if it would work in a pressure pot though. So far, the only issue is that it floats and wont stay in the middle. So I get like a side or the top that isn't covered with resin and the styrofoam is sticking out.

Quick update:

resin did arrive tues. I have casted a few of the smaller parts, havn't tackled the larger items yet. I have the barrel in the pot as I type. Once it is ready to demold I will pull that baby out. :cheering

hopefully I should have my first Webley test done by the end of this weekend.

Another quick resin update:

The molds seem to be working so far, and I got a few parts tested. I am however disappointed with the resin itself. It seems to be fine for the thicker parts, but for the thinner ones, it is far to brittle. The littlest pressure and it snaps. So that's no good.


So I'll use it up for the heavier thicker items, but will need to order different resin for the smaller thinner parts. I am going to get Smooth-cast 321.

Anyone recommend another type of resin?

I have tried to cast two barrels already and I have concluded that I will have to make a new mold for it. I will also try to make a second mold of each part to help speed things up a bit.
