    Boba and Jango Packs

    Hey guys,

I wanted to do something to give a little back to this great community seeing as it gives so much to us budding Mandos.

Some may have seen my Fett gauntlet thread where I've modelled the gauntlets in 3D and intend to use Pepakura to unfold them to produce 2D templates similar to WoF templates?

Well, those were originally done for a friend so I wanted to start something new that was actually intended for TDH members. I haven't read the latest on some of Wizardofflights threads but if I recall, he hasn't had the chane to get the Jango Arena pack done?

Well, this morning I started to model Bobas rocket pack and have copied it and altered it to get the Jango pack done too! The modelling is very nearly done and then I'll unfold them. The templates will be made freely available here to all TDH members. Both are based on WoF blueprints.

    Here's a pic so far:
    image5.jpg

As you may see, some of the finer detail has been left out to make the build easier as it can be added later. You can read a little more and see some more pics at my blog: http://skipspepakuracostumes.blogspot.com/

Let me know what you guys think. :jet pack:jet pack:jet pack

    EDIT/UPDATE!

I have finished the Jango Arena pack!!

I've uploaded it here for you guys to download and try out. Please let me know if there are problems or if you have questions. Enjoy!!

    Jango Arena JetpackA4.zip

    Jango Arena Jetpack Letter.zip

You'll need Pepakura viewer to open the file and to print it out, that can be found here: http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/

Thanks, they were actually really esy to do. That's thanks to the blueprints. Everything lined up pretty perfectly so it was a really pleasant time.

Thanks buddy. I spent yesterdy doing the Fett helmet. That's almost done now too so I'll be needing to spend a day unfolding them and getting them ready.

LOL! Thanks buddy. I know alot of the guys at the 405th do that, model something then release it for others to unfold. I'm not like that though, I prefer to see it through to the end.

    Re: Boba and Jango Packs

I'm starting to unfold the Areana pack now that the helmet is done. I have a question though. I need a litle help.

How tall/high is the arena pack from thruster nozzle to the tip at the top? I need this for scaling the model so any help here is greatly appreciated!

    Re: Boba and Jango Packs

I really want to get this one done today. I looked at the model again before making a start on unfolding it and came to the conclusion that it was a little too low poly. Low poly is good for this kind of modelling but because this is intended to be a 1/1 scale prop when done, the cylinders and cones needed to be smoother.

    image2.jpg

That's done now, so if someone would be kind enough to tell me the height of the arena pack, then I can scale it and unfold it today.

    Anyone?

    Thanks for the offer Kaane.

Sorry Wet', I went with the Arena as it hadn't been done yet. The jet pack needs some tweaking like the Arena did. The cones and cylinders need to be smoother, more spherical, then unfolded. Sorry buddy.

I couldn't sleep this morning so I put some time into finishing it. Sorry it took so long guys, I know some have been waiting patiently to try it out.

The templates are currently in PDO format, so Pepakura Viewer or Designer is needed to open and print them. I will do the PDFs too soon.

I've started the arena jet pack using a mix of 1 and 2 ply chipboard. so far I have the main structure and the center warhead done. I did the "frame" of the pack (the non round parts) in the two ply for strength. And the round parts (tubes and cones) in the thinner one ply. Sorry for the lack of pictures just yet, but I am very pleased with the results so far.

If its ok with skip I'll take some pictures of my progress to add to his thread here.

Thank you again for sharing your talent.

    Absolutely!! Let us see it!!

I'm happy that people are having success with the Arena pack! It bodes well for the rocket pack seeing as both are virtually identical.

That would be pretty cool. An ESB should be fairly simple. An ROTJ blaster might come out pretty well too, although, there would be a lot of folding for the barrel.

I was going to do it "greeble-less" so you'd get the basic weapon done. I'll have to start and see how it comes across.

    Re: Boba and Jango Packs

Here is it so far I started cleaning up the joints as I was working on the cones. Most of this is the 2 ply chipboard. I attached several of the templates and made long lateral strips of parts. basically the sides that face the backplate are now two pieces (top and bottom) and the main structure is on the front is 2 pieces, top and bottom with the folds scored so the line up nice and crisp. The caps that surround the side tanks are separate pieces as are the rectangularish pieces that join to the main tank. Skip did a fine job separating the pieces so they will print to regular printer paper, but if you are using a large sheet of cardstock, chipboard, matboard, etc, using fewer larger pieces will save a lot of time.

I'm not happy with the side tanks not fitting properly and causing them to oval slightly, but that is my own fault in the execution not the design. I'll fix it though.

    Re: Boba and Jango Packs

From what I can see, you're off to a good start.

One thing I wouldn't have done though. I wouldn't have scored and folded along the fold lines in any of the cylinders. I would have used the fold lines as a guide for lining up the glue tabs, but bent the card around the end caps to give a smoother outer surface.

By folding them like that you'll have to put more work into making them rounded and smooth.

Other than that I think it's looking good buddy. Well done!

Question... if I were to make this out of Posterboard (Matboard) how much would I need... I was looking online and found some 32"x40" sheets, how many of those would I use for the jet packs (Jango probably arena style)

    Thanks,
    Tony

Well, you'd have to work out how many sheets of A4 or Letter size you'd get from one of those large sheets of posterboard. Then take it from there.

    38 sheets of letter paper.
It comes to somewhere around 25 square feet, you'd need roughly 3 32"x40" sheets.

    Re: Boba and Jango Packs

Looks Great, can't wait to start the Classic pack, already used your jango jet pack with moderate success.

If it's ok with you, I'll post some pics.

Here we go, It is EXTREMELY rough, I rushed it, I had a troop later that day, so It looks like junk.

Also, the cone looked a bit "all-consuming" so I went with some household items, which I am eventually going to replace.

It doesn't look that bad mate. Though rushing will kill any good build. Still, look on the bright side, you can learn from it and start over. Or put some time into fixing it?

    Re: Boba and Jango Packs

Im thinking of using this template to build a jetpack for my son's mandalorian costume Im working on (he is almost adult size). So, just a silly question perhaps, what level of thickness card (GSM) should I be printing this on? Also is there any technique for strengthening it once its done, like perhaps fiberglass?

    thanks

    Re: Boba and Jango Packs

Hey TDH! Ok. Finally I found a place where I can contribute (in some fashion!). As some of you know I am in the process of building a Jango Fett costume for my son. One of the areas that I have been scratching my head on is the Jetpack. I found this thread here and downloaded the Pepakura software that Skupilkinson talks about and WOW. So. I figured I would save each page as its own PDF so then you can scale it to the size you need. So here are both packs (Jango Areana and Boba Jetpack) in Letter not A4. I would still recommend you download the Pepakura software and the files that Skupilkinson developed. This way you know where each piece goes (there are alot). Skupilkinson did a great job and I hope that my contribution will help some one else.
