Boba Fett suit

Hi, I've been here a few times but never really stayed for long I'm afraid.

Though I finally got a bit of money in, and I was looking to either buy or make a Boba Fett suit. So I'm wondering what route I should go.

I found this one on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/BOBA-FETT-ARMOR...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a5354dae1

And from afar it looks good. Though the seller mentioned it's from "Rubies" which wasn't spoken off too highly here. And the costume seems a bit off in places. That and I'd rather an ESB Fett too.

So what does everyone think of that auction?

And if I wanted to build an ESB Fett is there a good kit I should know about? And how much would it cost? Same question towards building from scratch.

Edit: Oh and I just found this website again, had forgotten all about them. http://www.tk409.com/fett.html

They seem to have better goods.

Stay away from eBay, unless its someone from here selling. I would suggest against buying Rubies, they aren't good costumes and are poorly constructed and not even close to accurate. Here is a thread on the Rubies Supreme Fett
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php/33700-Supreme-Fett-Costume

There are many fine makers of all of the parts you will need to build your Fett that are right here on the boards. Spend some time browsing the forums to see who makes what in particular you are looking for. Many of the members here also offer excellent painting services as well. Fettpride makes great armor and helmets, man of war now has boots, and there are some great flight suits out there by many talented people.
As for price, a good Boba Fett will cost you anywhere between $2,500 - $5,000 depending on many, many factors. Go to this thread for more info. http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/show...o-TDH-Read-this-about-how-much-you-will-spend!
Hope this answers some questions.

read thru the forum for a couple of weeks or months b4 any purchase approach, ask questions and then make the move b4 you get enough basic knowledge of Boba Costume... Fettpride, MOW, Bobamaker, BBF, Woodman, Laysewforus, Fettdad etc... etc...are all great makers... and finally if you are patient enough like i am, stay on the Cargo Hold at the bottom of this forum, there is surprise every day if you do check it from time to time... ( cargo hold review is my daily job now :) hope that helps...

I'm new here too and spending hours on end reading through tons of threads and getting to know who the makers on and off this forum are is important. I've only been here since about May 28th but have learned a lot from not just current posts but much older posts as well to get an appreciation of who's doing what now and how it was done a long while ago. I think just reading through the threads you'll get a better idea of what style of Fett you want to do. I came in here already knowing what style I wanted to do but just going through the threads made it so much more clear that my chosen style was in fact the right one for me.

Wow very helpful responses. Thank you very much. Yeah I can tell I'd have to rework the rubies one to get it decent.

My problem is I've only have a budget of about a $1000 and I really can't go over much for now. I'll have a little more over the next few months, though not as much.

I will definitely take all the advice of the thread and look around.

I'm trying to get my costume ready for a festival on Halloween weekend, so I do have some time.

i don't know who said it first, i'm not even sure who i read that said this line, but it was somewhere on these boards: there are three elements to the prop building community; cheap, fast, and quality. but you can only ever have two at a time. boba fett is a journey, when i first got into this i thought i could get it done in six months, "sure that's plenty of time." about a year and a half after that i was to the point that i had a costume complete enough to wear. you don't need to buy everything at once, pace yourself. you might not have boba done for halloween this year, but by the time you do get him done you're not going to want to take him around a bunch of rowdy drunk halloween morons.

Nah I know. You're right. Although I didn't have any spare money until now. And I'd hate to have to completely wait until next year to get something even decent looking. Although I'd definitely work on it so that it looks good for the next year. I guess I might have to accept that though.

Haha, as for Halloween drunks it's actually a festival during the day with little to no drinking. At least not many drunks. And I'm with all my cousins who are mostly sober.

Here's my own personal story even with money. Started project on May 28th with a hole in my pocket and money to burn. I've dropped $4400 in the last week on the top end dealers on and off this site but due to getting in line and waiting my turn I won't even have my Bobamaker armor for around 16 weeks and some other parts for weeks down the road due to build time. This includes all the little do-dads you find out about reading through the posts, the parts most people glance over or don't see, or parts that help the suit wear better that people don't see like a JP harness. I still have around $1400 or so to spend before it's all said and done too. So basically, if you had the money to get a top end suit like me from scratch, you still have to wait awhile.

On a side note, it took me about a year to finish my TK (only tooled with it once a month or so). It took me about 3 years to put together my batman. In my experience though I find it's about the journey and not the finished product. I've actually felt bummed out after completing a project because I had so much fun putting it together. I think that's why people constantly look to upgrade their suits over the years even if what they have was top notch at the time.

Just my two cents.

Spending money on a Rubies costume is like throwing your money away. You can find far more accurate pieces here for comparable money.

I started my fett last year around this time with the same intent, to be ready for Halloween since my best friend was having a costume wedding and all my friends are geeks. I spent maybe double your budget but after looking around in the year since it definitely could have been done a lot cheaper to start. The key is just to figure out what you can make yourself, which should be a good percentage of teh costume, and what you want to be better than you can make and spend your money there. For me the helmet had to be one of the best pieces so I bought a BM helmet. Since then though I've found out I could have had a FP helmet for half the price. So my advice is pick your battles and be patient....and ALWAYS keep working on it! I got so far behind I was still painting my guantlets the day of the wedding. There is just a crazy amount of work involved in any part so don't leave anything to the last minute. Looking forward to seeing your costume once it's "done"

i've been working on mine for about 7 months. $1,200 later i still have about $1,800 to go (that with a M.R. blaster no more than $400 i hope). most of what i have is from the cargo hold and is nice used stuff. if u going to use it that one time or mabe just for costume partys now and then that one (rubies) would work . most people would think its great. if your going to troop in it around other star wars folks u want to build , buy from here. my 2 cents. good luck.

I'm new to the board too. I've been reading a lot over the past few months. Only thing I have complete so far is my helmet. My advice is, if you want something that looks good, you are better off starting out with high quality pieces. If you buy something cheap you will end up replacing it down the line.
