Boba Fett ROTJ SE with RKD armor

hobbit057

Hunter
Hello everyone, well this is the start (officially), I first set out and purchased a Bobamaker helmet, the wait time for that was 3 months (due this month, may), so i thought i would keep busy and keep focused on that distant goal line, so while scouring this site for knowledge and deciding the hows and the which's I stumbled upon a thread, cant remember who, but I thought i would try to build my armor as he did out of a garbage bin!

Check my thread here.... http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/another-boba-bin-thread-44262/

It went quite well but I guess i kinda knew it wasn't up to scratch and would be a little thin looking. Still a good idea, but it was proving a little difficult to make the back plate. It was then I realised this wasn't what I wanted at all, then I stumbled upon the awesome RKD thread, and realised it was a possibility to purchase quality armor at an affordable price. So I have to say, the best choice i have made thus far! I thoroughly recommend RKD, the armor is awesome and Will is an absolute delight to do business with. So as all this beautiful armor is sitting in front of me I had better get started! Please feel free to comment give advice, I really want to get this as accurate as I possibly can! So im going to need a LOT of help! Hahaha!

Nice stuff mate. I have just finished my ESB Fett with RKD armour.
You are 100% correct....he is a absloulte pleasure to deal with and his armour is great to work on.
Look forward to seeing your build.

what would be better if the people in oz were makinhg the stuff too, to the standards as oversaes, not knocking RKD but now one in oz seems to produce a kit.
great work.

Hey bud! like the setup so far! I got a white set of RKD armor myself and I can't wait to start painting it up! Good luck on your build!

Thanks mate! How are you going with all the trimming? Im not sure if Will trims it as close as he has on mine? I dont have a great deal of actual cutting just some filing and sanding! Yippiee!

Hey Phantom! yeah hes a top bloke! Im zooming over to check out your threads!

I agree BGhunter! Nice to have such a learned fetthead such as yourself so close to me! :)

Hey Robafett! yeah it would be nice to have a bit more happening down here, but the great thing about RKD is his turn around is very fast! mine took just over a month from ordering to my door......but im super stoked with what i've got right now!

Thanks for looking guys, I hope you can check in on me here and there and point me in the right direction! :)

hey hobbit, that is a good turn around time, makes it hard to compete, unless you have heaps of time and great shipping, from what i have have heard RKD is bloody good with his customer satifaction.

Too right mate! I am very new to this and its a big learning curve doing business the way we seem to have to in this fett hunt, I have chased a few here and there some not responding at all, some... I have been warned off completely, by the good people here! It really is amazing how helpful everyone is here! It really boosts the confidence in the face of how daunting this project is.

Wow you guys are all way too kind!! Thanks so much for the great compliments!
Yes, I have been sending quite a bit of armor to you mates down under and it's not a problem at all! And YOU all are an absolute pleasure to deal with as well! Thank you all so much for your continued business and support :)

You know, if I didn't have a full time job I'd be knocking orders out even faster lol. I really do try to make items ahead of time and have them in stock but I've been so busy that everything's been selling as fast as I can make it (not complaining, that's a good thing!)! Not sure if you all know yet, but I've started making some greeblies for the gaunts and have also hired a machinist to start making me some of those parts as well so that I'll have some nice perfect masters to mold up...so keep your eyes peeled!
And keep those WIP's coming! I always love to see what people are doing with my armor.
Cheers friends!

well you deserve all the good press Will thats for sure!

Just a quick update, I've been busy trimming and sanding and filing, so im hoping to be painting by the weekend! :) I also went the same way as The Phantom and left a little bit extra on the armour, and not trimming it all the way...... it was approved by Rafa, so that is definitely good enough for me!
I'll be posting some pics soon! :)
Also my plan is to airbrush all the armour and helmet with humbrol model paints(I have most of them now), as i think it will (hopefully) be as accurate as can be in this country of limited paints! I have to thank Jayvee for inspiring me to go in that direction.

Finally I have some photos to show! Been trying hard to get moving on this as I have the work in front of me to do! Anyway, I have had a few setbacks of late particularly my health, but hopefully that will sort itself out without any surgery... my last year in my 30's better not be an indication of the next decade!!
So enough said in that area, and here are some pics!

All sanded trimmed and display and jetpack holes cut out. My son added smiley face on codpiece! :)

Everything but the backplate has been primed and then lightly sanded and is now ready for silver coat. The backplate has been marked for trimming around the neck for better alignment with the neck collar. I will prime and sand after trimming ( its only 1 - 2mm on the inside of the neck.). Please feel free to give any advice or point out any issues as I am learning and really appreciate you awesome people helping me to make a better Fett. More to come.....

Ok so i have to say I am learning a LOT!! hahaha! So I have rubbed down sprayed silver, gently rubbed down again. The problems I've been having with the cheap primer and silver enamel spray cans, my conspiracy theory is there is dust and hair generously added to each and every can!
With that lesson learned i will be priming and everything else exclusively with the awesomeness that is Humbrol, the best option in Australia thats for sure!

Moving on... i started masking (Humbrol Maskol), this stuff dries out in minutes! A bit of a shock to start with, I had to keep putting the lid back on as it was setting at the top of the jar. I applied it with toothpicks and worked off Rafa's awesome templates! Hats off to him his work is truly amazing!
I didn't trace it on to the armour or even draw it on first. I simply copied by eye as Im a fairly good artist and I think I did ok, I hope you guys will let me know if I got anything completely wrong! It is a bit hard to see by the photos at this stage but as the masking comes off, all will be revealed as they say! Thanks for looking! :)

Well done buddy.. good so far.

Humbrol paints, I take note on that when I start mine. what are you going to use to mask of the sliver, are you going to use a liquid masking liquid and what type.

Another Aussie fett to our legions.

I also have a set of RKD armor to start working on, but I want to start my scratch built jetpack in the next couple of weeks.

cheers

pablo.

Hey Pablo! Yeah nice to see some aussies on here! I am using Humbrol Maskol for all my masking, there's a sneaky pic of it in the pics above. It only cost me $10 at the local hobby store and there is no way im going to run out, especially using a toothpick to apply it! I will post the humbrol paints as I go, and I will post all my boo boo's as I go also ;)
Thats great your scratch building your jetpack, you're definitely way more skilled than I Pablo! hahaha! Which Boba are you planning to build? I'll keep an eye on ya threads in the future! :)

Well I've been putting in some hours into the masking, I think my eyes are going a bit cross eyed after that last stint!!

This layer was airbrushed with Humbrol Insignia Yellow (154) and managed to cover the armour from the 14ml pot. Its amazing how much you can do with such a small amount!
It is a little thin in spots but I didnt think it mattered as much, because its there where it needs to be. Anyway it's masked ready for the green which I will hopefully be starting tomorrow.

Let us know if you can see anything that shouldn't be as many eyes are better than two! Does anyone know how to go about painting your own emblems without out sourcing stencils? Thanks :)

Looks good mate.
Look for Rafs templates. He has a break down in his. I cheated and got decals....I'm not that talented to paint them by hand :)
