Boba Fett Alternative Death Scene - RotJ Jet Pack

It has always been a mystery to me why the Return of the Jedi jet pack has a HUGE diagonal slash in it when Han Solo barely taps it with the force pike! Always seemed very gratuitous. Well... a recent photo on the MPF has explained it. Apparently, Boba was originally scripted to have a slightly more honorable death at the hands of a Jedi instead of a blind smuggler. Check out this alternate storyboarded scene and the giant melted slash in Boba's Jet Pack suddenly becomes crystal clear.

This was actually posted a few days back, and I seriously wondered about it's authenticity

Is that authentic ??

Interesting indeed if it is. I can see though why they would have scrapped it considering that cutting off Boba's hand would have most definitely made it appear to be a meaningless general theme in the movie - rather than the romantic opera that was intended - the son following the tragic path of his father.

Glad it was a waste basket "rim shot"

I think I still feel the same. Too many hands cut off would have taken from the final scenes in ROTJ. IMO (y)

Argh!!! I TOTALLY missed that thread! That's what I get for not paying attention.

Based on the source of the image, I have no reason to believe it is a fake.

I do agree that the chopping off arms gag is way overused in Star Wars, but I really do like the idea of this death scene so much better because Boba is facing off and losing to a true opponent instead of the ridiculous notion of dying by accident.

However, for me, the biggest thing I took from this was the instant connection to the very clear "slash" in Boba's jet pack. It now makes a LOT more sense to me and in my mind solidifies this alternative death as it now seems clear the damage in his jet pack is from a light saber.

Id guess that the 'slashed arm' kills the irony/forshadowing of luke/darths, and a jedi slashing someone in the back after being disarmed would be considered bad form.

It probably changed during the revenge/return arguments.

It does make a lot more sense to the immense damage visible on that jetpack. I'd have even been a little more satisfied if Han wasn't still "blind" and we got to see how powerful a Force pike can be. It looks like a cool weapon and considering it must have some sort of powerized ability, it would have been nice to see it on screen.

It wouldn't have to have been an elaborate scene, just different....a mild struggle, the skiff takes the same hit from a laser blast and Han takes a deliberate swipe at Boba after maybe a kick or punch....somthing....anything other than what was delivered :facepalm

Cut down by Luke, knocked on the jet pack by Han, my biggest gripe is the way Boba goes sailing with arms flailing and screaming like a schoolgirl! WHAT IS THAT ABOUT!!??!!

id rather have him get knocked into it by a blind hand, who's much tougher than the sissy sister kissing luke. all that farm boy ever does is cry. rotj is the movie where lucas should have stoped with the whole star wars thing imho. tough jedi luke, not buying it. the only good thing about ewoks is they dont talk, i guess the slave girl out fit is the only redeeming quality in this movie....
