Blaster Blaster weathering

Hi Folks
I have just started to paint up my ROTJ blaster.
I have given it two coats of primer and then two coats of aluminium colour plasticote paint on top.
Once dry i'm going to give it a few coats of matt black or a very dark grey.
I'll then use some fine sandpaper to to go through to the aluminium colour on places that are likely to have worn or been chipped.
After that some watered down rust coloured enamel will be rubbed on and wiped off in strategic places.

I guesss my question is does this sound like the right way to go about things?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi thanks, I've been looking at those pictures and I know it would be accurate to copy the real thing but I don't totally like how that looks. I'm thinking that I would make it resemble the real prop and be recognisable as that one but make it more subtle.
I just think that Boba was a professional and his weapon would have been looked after a bit better than that one looks.
The other thing is I have never weathered a blaster before so don't really know what my skill level is.

I know what you mean , fett was a pro and his EE-3 was a tool of his trade , and after reading the bounty hunter wars trilogy there's lots of references to him keeping his ship clean and spotless , so his weapon would of been the same , I thought about doing mine in matt maybe even satin black with a dry brushing of silver with a small amount of weathering like a ink wash

I do mine similar to what IceMonkey said.

1 Krylon flat black primer.
2 sublte silver dry brushing
3. subtle dabbing of burnt sienna acrylic to give it slight rust tones

thats how i do the ESB one, but sounds to me like the look your going for may work with this technique.

This as far as I have got so far.

Thanks dude, not too bad for a first attempt I think.
It's a Doopydoos blaster from here in the UK

Oop, just noticed your in the UK too.

I'm about to start the weathering on my hyperfirm. The black/silver is already done, so I'm going to start working with the brown/rust. I think I will go pretty light to begin with, not quite as heavy as the original.

See the ESB you could do this but the ROTJ wasnt a metal rifle

True, but he said that was the look he wanted to go for so i suggested it. But hey looks like it turned out pretty well :)

Hmm...the stock does look a lil short. if its a seperate piece, woodman can hook ya up with a great wood stock. The original ROTJ was an entire resin cast from what i recall, but it will still make for a nice stock stained and then painted with some chips n such :)

So excuse my enormous ingnorance here, I've never had much of an interest in the ROTJ weapon, is the whole prop a resin cast? That would certainly explain why the gallery pictures make it look so gunky.

Thanks for the discussion guys.
Like I said in my original post I feel the original prop is too rusty looking, what I feel I have done is my interpretation of the ROTJ prop. Not screen accurate but i'm pretty happy with it.
I'm pretty pleased with the way I have rubbed the top layer of black paint down to show the silver paint underneath, looks like it has been worn away. The rusty colour is there but just very subtle.
As for the stock I feel that as the prop is not going to be screen accurate then if you are not an expert then you would not notice, the public when trooping certainly would not. Thanks for the input guys.

So forgive my continued ignorance but is the scope a cast too? The detailed gallery pictures make it look like it is a real scope.
