BFUK Jet Pack Run starting phase one.

OK guys

Firstly, thanks for the support and interest so far. Work has been slower than I wanted, but it needs to be right and some reworking has resulted in a better finished pack and the extensive work on the thruster was not something I thought would cost me so much time, but has been well worth the effort.

Although some things have changed I have held the price at £180. This project is not about making money and the costing is tight, but due to us working together as a co-operative I am going to be ordering up materials in bulk which helps make it work.

So, as of today I have a fully finished mold that I have produced the first finished pack body. Production is now underway on main bodies. The thruster, I am promised will be with me and complete before the end of the week - even if have to spend all Friday night in the shop till I get it. The missile needs some slight filling and sanding. I will be making the molds for these at the weekend, with a view to shipping the first pack Monday as it is required urgently. I have a stock of greeblies on hand and a number of basic harnesses available.

So with everything in place and as it should be I am ready to place an order for materials. I have updated the interest list and have enough greeblie parts to fulfill all those on the list at this time. As I have no order in which to run the list I think it would be best to throw it open to all on the list and ask for the first 5 to make paymnet. This will then be phase one and when complete we will all have a better understanding of the time scale for the next phase.

Hi Lisa, this is an upgrade to allow the bacon to light up. It is used with an ali beacon. As seen in ESB, but I and many other ROTJ boys have it also, it adds more magic when trooping :D. I am able to instal the wires to the working greeblie switch located on the bottom of the pack. It comes with the bulb and battery conection all ready to push inside an ali beacon as and when an ali beacon is fitted to the pack.

OK guys, I know it apperas things have been moving slowly but I have ironed out all the issues encountered this far and all is going to plan. I have all the materials in my work shop and a huge box of greeblies too!

I have now got the solid ali thruster master and intend on making the molds and casting the new missile, thrusters and the last greeblie over the weekend and shipping the first 2 packs very soon after!

I will try harder to get some photos up, but hope to get a photo of the first complete kit posted to fire you up very soon.

small update. I got the Thruster master - and made the mold of the ball section. I have some photos and will hook my camera up to get them uploaded. In fact, I will take some more and get some good updates on tomorrow.

I have finished the missing greeblie sculpt and molded and cast some. I have also got a quantity of correct screws to attach the greeblies, and a quantity of switches and electrical components for the beacon lights.

I do however need to finish the bottom section modification to the missile.

Photos tomorrow of wip - but I can't wait to get the full finished pack photos together with greeblies mounted etc.

Working hard guys - and have some changes taking place at work which will give me the opportunity to get more time working on these :cheers

As you can see the parts are not handed so one master works for both thrusters. I intend to cast the parts separately and glue together and use the parts to help install onto the pack main body. More to come on the fixing method later. Also the centre greeblie is also removable so in theory an ali centre can be upgraded if desired and will fit perfectly.

Thanks for the comments! (blush) Things are moving along much slower than I want at the moment - but I have set my standards very high and I am not about to settle for second best >:

The frustrating thing is that I am losing time in areas pretty much out of my control - the thruster being a good example, it has taken hours to get right, which is more due to developing techniques and starting over than actual machine time for the finished item.

I am as of right now just about at the top of the hill and things should really pick up speed soon (I hope) :wacko. Thanks for sticking with me here guys, you will be pleased with the results.

I have a troop a week on sunday and I am going to feel so embarrassed using my old pack - but I am not even on the list yet :wacko

Dont quote me, but it seems like my machinist and I talked, and he said that aluminum was not a lot heavir than solid resin:) but dont quote me, because ive never compared:)

M, for the thruster (and missile) I am using a quality urethane resin with a lightweight filler. It is much, much lighter? I did a test drop from chest height and the ball just kind of dead bounced but did not chip, crack or shatter.

Maybe it is the grade used in this particular situation?

I am going to upload photos tomorrow and give a full update. I have a full day to myself to spend on this project. All the parts are made and finished, with the exception of the beacon and stabilizer, and a minor adjustment to the missile lower half. Most are now molded and the castings of the main body are of the correct quality, strength and come out of the mold needing only minor cleaning up (which is what I have been working on).

Looking forward to updating tomorrow - and getting these first batch out.

The good news is I have all the parts on hand, and I have an order of rubber on the way, included on the order is plenty of resin also. I have 2 more packs ready for priming and the last ready to pull from the mold.

So what have I been doing? Molding and casting the rear hatch. Making new and more accurate fuel cell caps - they were nagging away at me, and I had the perfect opportunity to change them out due to the mold amendments. I also wanted them to be the same as the next packs and the inaccuracy was bothering me. I have also refined the bottom section of the rocket.

I do need to get the beacon and stabilizer sorted and the improved knurled section back from the machine shop, but they promise me I will have it asap.

So, I will have the packs ready to ship by Tuesday next week. Thanks for your patience, you have pretty much been guinea pigs here, but all the problems have now been ironed out and I am very happy with the kit in every way. More updates over the weekend, and then completed kits at the satrt of the week :thumbsup

Yes....I have the first pack almost ready to ship. I want to send them out just right which all takes time, but all the molds are done and I have cast all the parts and built the kit up into a complete pack. I am just refining the mounting of the thrusters and missile, but basically its good to go! The second pack is close on too and the others will follow suit very soon. If I get chance I will get some photos up soon, just off to tinker will the fittings.

Well, I am almost there :D Here is the first complete kit. I am happy with the way the parts all go together and the rear hatch closure uses rare earth magnets as I wanted.

Update

I have now got my sets of Aluminum beacon and stabilizer into production. This will allow me to offer it as an upgrade with all my pack kits, and produce the resin casts to complete the kits otherwise. The beacon is hollow inside to allow for a bulb to be positioned inside. I don't have the price just yet, but should have by Monday.

I picked up my pack from Rob today and all I can say is WOW this pack is beautiful and well worth the wait, what Rob has done is a work of art the pack is superb, also seen all the metal greeblies that he will be offering as upgrades and all I can say on that is I will be having a set of them as they are superb too, those that are waiting for there packs you are getting something that is well worth it and those who are thinking of ordering one of these when Rob does another run is get one as you will not be dissapointed at all with it. Nice one Rob job well done mate was nice to see you and have a good chat, hope to talk soon mate and thanks for this lovely pack.

Update

The first steps have been slow but steady. Two more packs are shipping this week and then the updated mold will be coming by the end of the week. Production times will then come way down.

I should have everything in place and stock on hand to supply the ali parts from next week also.

Still developing the metal harness rig, but it will be worth the wait also ;)

I received my jet pack yesterday. Never heard of next day mail from uk to california but it happened! The jet pack is great! Everything goes together great and I love the options he left open for upgrading. I did have an issue with the jp but its not robs fault. During shipping they must have stacked some heavy boxes on top of my box. The main body has a crack up the whole side. Rob is an awesome guy and we are figuring out what to do. This jp is worth the money and the wait. Very impressed with the service and product.

Hi all

All is well and moving quickly. I have been out of town training for my new job this week, so thats why things have stalled these past few days. Over the weekend most of the paid for packs will be finished. I have two which will move to the finishing stage. This is where I build the kits up and make sure they fit together square and tight and then primer and pack.

These packs in the photo are just about ready to pack (Kwally89's is in the box and will ship as arranged).

XfettX your replacement body is also ready to ship and will go out very early next week.

Ohhhh!! I'm sooo excited to get it!! You have no idea how hard it was to ask you to NOT ship it until I get back from vacation. I wanted to stay home and wait for it. Vacation isn't as important as this pack!!
