    Beacon color

I have seen people do it both ways, but the beacon on the jet pack for ESB looks to me solid metal in the movie shots. But I have seen members paint the top section black. The photos I have seen of ESB might be decieving because it is lit up and you may not be able to see if it is painted at the top. Anyone know for sure from maybe prop photos?

    Re: Beacon color

I've wondered that too... on the AoSW/MoM packs, they have the top and middle section black (weathered) Before the ESB HS grabs, the beacon on the ESB pack looked like a different shape entirely sometimes. The first shot the ESB beacon middle looks black, the second shot here it looks all silver... who knows? I like the black/silver look, but accuracy is really what I'm shooting for. Anyone else got an opinion?

No, I agree with you, aluminum body with painted black top, but go back and look at any of the beacons we have good shots of the top and you will see it is brass under that dark paint.

Here are photos of the brass top.. First, I assume everyone already knows there are two completely different beacon tops, right? Next, while both tops are painted, you can clearly see the brass showing through the scratches and inside.

Exactly what I was thinking... does a brass top suggest a found part??

While I have no proof at all, I am convinced it is a found part just looking at the construction of the beacon tops. I believe it is simply a part we haven't found yet. I wonder if it is part of some type of filter or something like that.

That thought was actual going through my head while I read the last few posts. It looks to me like a part of some kind of filter. Or maybe a check valve off a vintage scuba tank?

yeah...like maybe on a faucet filter of some type???? maybe would have had a fine screen mesh on the inside originally?? Brass is commonly used in many types of plumbing applications right???

Thanks for the feedback...you guys are like the Fett Detectives. Was hard to judge by screenshots because the beacon light overpowered the actual metal color. Looks like I am painting mine up later.

keep in mind, chances are good that it is a part that originated in the UK, not the US.

For what its worth, this is the closest I have come to finding it. This is a dental handpiece manufactured here and in the UK. I have spoke to the 3 inventors who own the patent and the research and development team of their company. There were only a minimal amount of pieces made because they moved to a newer design and none of the indivduals have one.

The tip did have machined grooves because it served as a high volume extraction tip (HVE).

**Kudos to SS for doing the groundwork on this**

Oh, and if you stick with the dental theme you might come across some pieces that look very close to knee dart launchers
