BBF FUTURE PROJECTS, METAL ARMOR_INTERESTED?

Hello Brothers (and Sisters too!),

I have a bunch of projects on the board. Some of which I am currently working on. One thing I have been goofing around with is metal armor. I don't know if anyone would be interested in this. Modifying wizardofflight templates, I have done the CAD work and obtained a preliminary quote. But a one off proto-type is not cheap. Hence, I am on hold.

Would like some input from you all as far as possible interest.

The set would consist of frontal vest armor only (collar, shoulders, chest, center diamond and ab plates). The armor will be laser cut, .100" thick aluminum, shaped and dented. The armor could also be offered without dents (see photo below) for the Jango and custom Mando crowd. Projected weight is approx 3 lbs. The preliminary quote could go down, but could also go up a bit. Based on the current quote, the price would be about $285 plus shipping.

Let me know what you think. Thanks for reading! :cheers

will this be made of sheets of aluminum that are bent, or will it be more accurately shaped?

if it's got the right curves, $285 is a steal.

i've got Durasteel's armor... it was heavy aluminum (close to 1/4" thick) hammered / shaped. i paid $1000 for the chest, collar, shoulders, cod and kidney, then another $300 for the backplate.

This is not thin aluminum :) Current thinking for the shaping is "bumping" on CNC bender. However, we have discussed press forming. And yeah, you hit it on the head for the other parts. Too complicated to be cost effective. That's why I focused on frontal vest armor.

Thanks for the reply and input! (y)

And were off...lets see where this one goes...I think you might want to consider non-dented versions for Jangos as well Terry. Didnt even cross my mind untill now, shoulda mentioned that durring our discussion. I think the price is right where it needs to be too, not to cheap and not to expensive VERY affordable really.

I have yet to make an introduction post in which I intend to express my interest in metal armor. I have already made requests for metal armor for my Jango or Custom kit from several members on these boards. My concerns are that I want the armor to contour the body and be thick. This usually is limited to thick hammered steal or like you mentioned - pressed. So I am excited to hear of the potential that you have here. I second a dentless Jango since I need onee for my kit but I would love to get the back parts and maybe even the rest of the armor complete but I know it's "first things first". Consider me interested.

To those of you that have replied, thank you for your comments, support and/or interest. Unfortunately, there's just not enough interest to carry on. 4 replies out of over 200 view. Ouch. I was not overly optimistic, but admit, I was hopeful. I may make a set for myself just to have. Oh well, on to the next project :)
