    Battle Damage

Hey gang, I just got my first syntra armor set, well I overlooked it and its missing the codpiece but I think its a good set, only cost me 40 bucks. I was wondering if someone could post a link to a pattern that will include reasonably accurate placement for the battle scars/dents in the armor pieces? The set that I got was just cut from smooth syntra nothing added. But like I said its my first set and I want to learn to do all the custom work to it like shaping it and painting it as well. Is there any really good paint tutorials? I saw a really nice layer painting technique but I dont fully understand the concept of how you would do the weathering on it if you paint all the armor silver, orange, yellow and then green? Can someone explain all this please? Thanks Im sorry for all the questions but like I have been saying I know nothing about what I am doing :P Just a little insight would help me out. Thanks all you guys ROCK!

    Long Live The FETT!

The painting technique you mention is layering. For this you need to get yourself some Winsor & Newton masking fluid.
You need to prep your sintra pieces with a fine grade sandpaper and then primer. Then you need a base coat (silver). This will be the colour that comes through from your other layers of paint that you apply on top.
Once the base coat is added leave to dry for at least 24 hrs. Then using visual referance you can paint on the masking fluid following the shape of the silver that shows from your visual referance. Leave this to dry, usually 20 mins depending how much you apply. Now you have all your silver masked off you can now add the yellow. Just spray it all over your armour and once again leave to dry. Then carefully remove the masking fluid.
You should now have yellow armour with silver damage. Now repeat the process masking off all the silver once more and the yellow parts that show through and spray on your green and leave to dry.
Before removing the masking fluid I suggest that you mist over the armour with flat black going heavier in certain places, once again use your visual referances. Now it's time to peel back that masking fluid and reveal the damage in all its glory.

    Have fun

I know the Sintra will have to be heated first...
But what can be used to create the deep blemishes (dents) in my scratch built armor?

    Re: Battle Damage

Well that's an easy one. I heated my armour with a hair dryer on the hottest setting in the area I wanted the damage to be and then pressed my thumb or one of my fingers into it as my other hand supported the armour from behind to stop it getting out of shape. easy peasey

to put the dents in my knee armor I wanted ti use less diffused heat so I lit a candle and held the spot I wanted dented over it for a few seconds. then, depending on the size of the dent I wanted pressed the end of a sharpie into it. you can use a screwdriver handle is you want something a little larger. also if you have a diffucult time finding latex mask, like I do, you can use mustard or even toothpaste. be careful with the mustard though, it likes to eat the finish off some silver paints. but once you get your layers on you just run it under some hot water and gently scrub with a sponge or your finger and it will melt the toothpaste right off and leave you with some nicely layered damage.

when I get home i'll post a link to the tdh reference library since I'm posting on my phone and don't have the url on it.

What is with the sudden surge of spammers?
But on topic: My dog loves killing plastic frisbees. I was thinking maybe for a custom mando that i do later on down the road, to let her go to town on some of the pieces of armor (if I use sintra). After some good painting, it could look like it got mauled by a Nexu. Maybe.
