    BATNINJA's vest weathering.

I am trying to find the best way to weather a BATNINJA vest.

For those who have it....Which materials or technique did you use? Airbrush, natural dirt, eating and use it as a bib....??? Please, post it here, since I am upgrading (never ends....now on "version 2.5"), and want to have it ready for Dragon*Con this year.

    All comments are welcome.

Mist it using your airbrush, using a warm light gray and light brown acrylics, then mist it with Testors Dull Coat. Hope that helps!

Well, I don't have one of Batnijas great vests, but if its made from the tacket twill, I would suggest misting it lightly with greys & browns using an airbrush, then spray the whole thing with dullcoat. I made mine from tacket twill & that method Seems to work pretty well.

Yes, the material is Tackle Twill. Sounds like a lead here....which tones of brown are recommended? I was thinking about a "rusty" color of brown, or a more light-colored of brown. Looks in some of the Fetts around that the vest looks a little like tan for some reason.

Am I in the right direction?

I'd stick to a tans / sandy brown tones, your better off building your tone up lightley rather than going too dark too quickley, unlike metal, wood, fiberglass, etc.. with fabric, there's noooooooo going back!

Ditto what's already been said. I misted mine with light grays and tans.

I also used a few browns and some black, but I thinned the paint so much that it looked like dirty water, this allows you to build up the colouring slowly and helps eliminate spray pattern (dots). I used water based acrylic paints.

    Good luck

Yep, airbrush is the best way to go. I did blacks and browns, like 4 different shades I think. Mix water to paint like 60/40, more water than paint

I also airbrushed a little gold in on the vest and flight suit legs. With the natural fabric color it comes out as "dirt and sand smudges", and doesn't wash out like real dirt does.

There's a line of paints called Createx that are made specifically for airbrushing on clothing.
I used them on some of my soft parts and they worked great.
After applying them, you have to "heat set" it with an iron (place a towel or something between your piece and the iron) to make them permanent.
I mixed some grays and grayish-browns.
