Back Plate Fiberglass

Has anyone had any issues with the backplate cracking from the jetpack or from general use. I have a backplate that has small cracks on the outer lip portion closet to the narrow part of the top shoulders. I noticed that when I grab the top portion of the shoulder pieces to swing around my back that the weight of the body bends that particular portion of the shoulder blade while I hold it. Which is likely the cause of the stress cracks. I was advised to use JB weld to fix the cracks. But I was looking more of along term solution to help reinforce that particular problem spot, perphaps fiberglassing or aluminum siding insert. Has anyone else had this problem or done this? Or do I just simply need to have someone attach it for me to prevent this. Thanks

TA I made my own back plate and laid in fiber glass. It wanted to peel away a bit when dry. I squirted super glue into the edges and it is solid. Fiberglas heats up as it hardens and could warp your back plate. You have to know what you are doing.JB Weld alone will not work.

My Jango back plate started to form stress cracks across the the middle. I just put a few more layers of fiberglass across the section to strengthen it up.....been good for about 3 years now with that fix.

Oh and to add......my Jango back plate is made of fiberglass to begin with so it wasn't a problem with the heat. You can add fiberglass to a plastic piece but do it slowly with thin layers over time to keep the heat down. The heat really builds up if you try to do a thick layer of glass.

Spy, thanks on the tip regarding the fiberglassing heating up and warping especially since it so thin, but I like the fiberglass look on your piece and the piece of mind knowing that it is solid. But Mullreel, I'll take your advise on using thin layers at a time. I think I'll start with layering the weak points and small areas to see how it reacts. I just wanted to see it anyone else had done it or if it was just a crazy thought. Thanks alot Gentlemen.
