Avg. price for ROTJ cape?

Hey guys, I'm wondering what the average going price for a ROTJ cape made out of a shelter half is, in the 30"X36" measurements.

Reason I ask is, I bought one that was complete, shelter half material cut in the correct dimensions with all the holes and tears and general weathering already done, for I think $35, if I am recalling correctly.

When I was at the beach this past summer I stopped at a military surplus store and and bought two shelter halves for about $4.50 each! If it is the right kind of shelter half I can get two capes out of each, correct?

I don't need them and figured I'd cut them up and offload them in CH. but what is a fair asking price? I will just cut out the rectangles and sew the edges and will leave the tearing and holes up to the buyer.

What would YOU guys pay? I don't want to overcharge or price gouge; I got them for dirt cheap.

Thanks,
-Pete

thats a darn good price!! are they new shelter halves or WWII era ones with the US stamp and the proper sewing lines already on one of the corners?

I paid 19.00 for a tent half from the WWII era. it has the little seam down the edge a few inches in and already has a grommet hole in the proper corner as well , but you can only cut one perfect one out of it like that. you'd have to sew your own seam to make the second cape.

I believe I charged 35 + shipping for the one I made preweathered and prewashed.

they go on ebay for 40-50. Most people around here charge from 20-50 as well depending on the weathering work being done or not, etc.

Thanks Wolfie.
I don't recall if they have the grommets already or not. Been a while since I took a look at them. Either way, I should still get two full sized capes out of them. I'll sell em for cheap since I don't need them and they cost me next to nothing.

Somebody made a tutorial with cutting templates for the shelter halves, but i've lost it. I need to check the wiki and get on it.

I would say anywhere from $35-50 depending on what you put into it and what the market will bear. If I were to sell the cape I have now, I'd have no qualms about the upper range because I spent weeks tracking one down with the perfect seam per the BraksBuddy tutorial. They're rare!

I have another shelter half and a half that I might also make some capes out of at some point. Those don't have the perfect seam but look nice and I'd likely put them on the lower end of the range.

Either way, good luck!
