Armour colours UK

Bobby Fett UK

Active Hunter
I have painted part of my armour but the colour is all wrong. Can anyone give me some colour refs for the green and yellow. When I talked with Bobamaker at the NEC I came away with Tamiya Field Grey but I think I have got that wrong, it looks grey (fancy that) and I cant find a field green.

OK, if you are seriously :wacko going to do ANH SE Fett, then I'd base it on the ROTJ color scheme. The blaster is definitely a ROTJ style blaster. Both guantlets are dark red, the shoulder bells are a dingy yellow, with no decals on the left bell. The body armor looks like a hunter green. I couldn't see much battle damage on the screen, so that's open to interpretation. As for the helmet, I couldn't see much battle damage on the back of it. The back is a darker green than the rest of the helmet. The jet pack is NOT ESB color scheme, it's more like ROTJ.

There's only like two shots of Boba Fett in Episode IV. They may have used the same Boba Fett costume in the ROTJ SE and the Episode IV SE. I'm going to have to defer to the more experienced Fett-heads on this forum for any more information.

I agree with Bobamaker on the Tamiya paints. I like the Tamiya acrylics a lot, but other people have gotten great results with Humbrol and Floquil. Personal preference really. :)

This forum is a great resource and 99% of the people are helpful and pretty cool. :cheers I'd also suggest taking a look at TK409's website and Bobamaker's.

The best advice I have ever gotten was to pick a Fett style you like, ESB, ROTJ or Pre Pro2 (my favorite), and build it your way. After all, it's your time, money, paint etc. You may just want to print off a few pics on a good color printer and go to the hobby shop to match up colors.

Good luck, keep us posted and take lots of pix. (y)

I was thinking along the lines of a ROTJ colour scheme with the ESB helmet, I think I am aware of a couple of little differences. Did not know about the decal missing from the shoulder, will check it out.

Visited TK409 and Bobamaker, both very inspirational, infact talking to Bobamaker sent me in the SE direction.

Aside from these I am not really dead set on a photo by photo comparison, but more to capture the essence of Boba.

However I still ned some colour names or numbers, anyone?

Hey guys,

Im also in need of UK colour guidance for an ROTJ Fett, armour and jet pack...

Tamiya eh? Would that require an airbrush???

Thanks,

Pauly

PS: O_J_M_T, drop me a line some time, perhaps we could share some hints and tips!!

There seems to be a couple of us UK guys here, I wonder if we might be able to get our own subforum some how (or the odd sticky thread in each forum...), to discuss stuff like this - paint colours - and other stuff like where to get plastics/supplies for building armour, or discoveries we make in british shops etc...

Any thoughts?

Yeah thanks for the list T F, you have no idea how helpful this is going to be for me!!!
Are they all spray cans?
Also, who stocks these paints? B & Q? That sort of place?

Now if I could only find some ABS sheets to cut some armour!!!

I'm open to ideas guys??

If I cant find any suitable plastic, Im guessing its time to save the pennies and go Fettpride or BM or something...

No problem DP. The paints are Humbrol, in small 'tinlets' and can be found on line or at model/hobby shops (try your local Hobbycraft shop) You will need to invest in an air gun but they can be relatively cheap for a basic one. I would highly recommend FP's armour as the ultimate solution...

DP...depends on what your budget is buddy...
Both are very well made but from different materials? BM= Fiberglass & FP= Vac formed ABS. the later is more accurate in way of manufacture and some say that the BM version is more robust? clear as mud so far?
If you were thinking of making some yourself? then ABS is not the material you need (unless vac-forming), find some foamex board (UK name) Sintra (USA) this comes i n 1mm, 2mm, 3mm or 5mm thick sheets and is used for signage material.
I used 3mm when I first attempted mine and got some good results especially using Alan's templates... ;)

I'd google sign makers in your area - pop along and ask for some off cuts (very cheap)

Good luck... ;)

Have you had a look at Tamiya XF-65 Field Grey once applied? It is green... even though the name states grey.

Big thanks to Terminal Fettler and Mojo-Fett for chiming in!! Still can't make a decision on whether to buy or make my own...

Think I'll try the latter first. Sign makers eh...?

BM pointed me in the direction of foamex a while back, I googled and ebayed it and nothing came of it really.

Must try harder! :D

PS. How much will a set of Fettpride chest and shoulders set me back??

I'm always looking at BM's site, wishing that I made more money! :D
I've got a BM lid so I know his work is spot on!! (Cheers Daz!)
