Look in the files section for patterns and all kinds of useful things.

Right now I'm concentrating on making the flightsuit. That's what I'm having a tough time finding fabric for. I'm looking for something in cotton or denim with just the right thickness. Other options thus far include broadcloth, poplin, chambray, gabardine or twill. Man, I never thought I'd need to know so much about fabric! :P I'm still trying to learn as I go.

This is an old post, but I need to know who (if anyone) has this pattern ASAP!!!. I'm in the process of making the vest plus making the decision of the jumpsuit which is a hard one to make.(Dickies' or Red Kap).

if you need patterns drawn up ive got the facility to drawn templates and print them off. Recently i did the pocket templates for the bobba & scout costume.

I found an actual flak vest at an army surplus store, and it is a pretty good size...the only thing is, is that it velcros on the side, but I am gonna sew that up, and put a zipper in the back...I also had to sew extensions on the shoulders for the shoulder pads to sit on...the color isn't bad either, its a light grey, not shiny, but its nice...plus I can take the kevlar out of the vest too! but it makes for the padding in the vest!

Ill get the templates made and sent to my seamstress to make a vest for all to see the final result.

sithlord23: About the flak vest you're talking about (remember, I'm in the ARMY), it's probably the one is called CVC light armor vest (Combat Vehicle Crewmember), it's the one that some of the tank and heavy military vehicle drivers use instead of the heavy and bulky one that they use by infantry units. Guys, take a look on CNN and you'll notice about the flak vest you're talking about, there you have the pics. And yes, it has velcro accross the front of the vest. That's a nice vest, buy it's shorter in the front than the back, which is supposed to be the opposite, and it's open in the sides, which probably you want to REALLY customize and make MODS to it...and the color is ARMY GREEN.

ukscout: Thanks and appreciate your help. Just let's wait until someone comes up with the pattern.

One last note, I talked to RA and he no longer sells vest patterns, so let's see what happens.

yeah Darth Vader 1, that sounds pretty right on, but the velcro fastens to the back side of the vest from the sides...you are right about it bein lighter weight, and a little shorter which helps for being able to sit down...and the original color was army green, mine is older and just really faded(almost grey) but I colored it more grey...I am gonna get some pics up soon, to show my suit and the vest...I just need to figure out how to put them up...I'm still learnin, again I'm amazed at the knowledge on this site...that someone knew about the vest for example, right on!

For my vest, I just took a T-Shirt that fit me properly over my jump suit and then cut the sleaves to the right size for sholder pauldrons. and then cut the t-shirt apart and used that as a template. Heck, I actually sewed the fabric to the t-shirt. Worked great and fits me just right.

Who needs a template just get an old T-shirt.

That sounds like a good idea, still you have to look for a T-shirt big enough to go over the jumpsuit, and to do a lot of mods to it. After all...good idea!

Raven, thanks for the link...I went to the website a couple of times, but now I found out the way to do it...just look for the cheerleader pattern and you won't be wrong. (I didn't look at it, cause sometimes my browser gets crazy, and was impossible sometimes to look at the website...sometimes it shows like lines instead of letters and pics.

Well, I didn't find the pattern previously posted anywhere around, but I got another one for Cheerleaders costumes (Simplicity pattern #9806 , size R), which it could work as well. In the back of the pattern, there's a diagram of one of the vests that could be modified: sleeveless, with a neck or without it.
Here's the pics of the pattern cover and back:





Besides, I got like 3 yards of a really thin, light grey satin (the only one I found so far), which I'm gonna use as the material for the vest, which will be better than the original fabric due to the fact that it's cooler and prevents me of getting too hot with so many things on. I'll be posting my progress.

I used a different cheerleader pattern but I think it's essentially the same as what everyone else is using.

Hey Darth, thats funny! I just picked up the same pattern & 3 yds of light satin as well! . We'll have to swap pics when we get our vests done, & maybe if we have problems sewing this bad boy, we can help eachother out. Good luck buddy!

Glad to see someone else with the same start up as I am. I'll be glad to help in any case with this project. The only parts you only need from this pattern are pieces # 1, 2, and 4. That means that you could do the vest with the collar (piece # 4), or without it, which I'm gonna do it with the collar.
Besides, there's a lot of mods we have to do to the patterns or the final result, like the shoulder pads and the back. I'm about to trace one to do the shoulder pads and measure myself to have the final result to then cut the fabric. I'll be posting my progress soon.

Here is the base pattern I used...
it was on sale for 5 bucks.

I looked at that one before I bought the other one I have, which cost me also around &#36;5-&#36;6....but look at the back of the pattern, and check the diagram. I noticed that all the vests I see were "V" neck type, and you need a round neck. Check it out, cause if not, you'd probably want to go back and buy the other pattern.

Oh I knew the neck was wrong...I just modified the pattern...it was an extremely easy modification...

couple of points. I've made a few vest and find that the sleeve template actually needs to be the shape of a rugby ball/american football, rather than half moon shape.

Where the holes for the arms start, mine go in a little more. Difficult to describe, but if you imagine the first pic is of a wide bottle, the neck of the bottle should be thinner (at least it is on my vests and works well).

The neckseal has less stitching going across. I put 3 lines of stitching across a padded neckseal and it looks good (IMO)

Kudos to you for posting the **** things though. I've been meaning to do a pattern for ages!

Great work, as always.

There's another thread here where we're all trying to come up with the number of rows on the sleeves. Some say 14, some think 20, other people came up with 15 (that's what I think).

I'd suggest either 14 or 15 is closer than what you have now.

For those who made a vest from scratch...did you made the neck based on a straight pattern or a curved one? I'm going for the straight pattern, so it's easier to add the lines to it.

If you're doing Jango, yes. Boba, no, I would disagree.
