Ammo belt weathering help ?

Hi there...I have recently bought a lovely shiny new faux leather ammo belt....but thats the problem with it....it's shiny new. It looks great and is really good quality, but I'm not sure the best way to make it look old , lived in and Boba Fett like . Any ideas ?

cheers all

I know what you mean! I just attempted my ammo belt & pouches out of marine vinyl and weathered them a bit with some dark brown stain, feathering on some straw colored acrylic paint with a brush, and a little flat black spray paint. What I found to make the most difference was sanding. It looked cool with the "shiny" gone, but because it wasn't real leather, care had to be taken to not go entirely through the material! Good luck! I look forward to seeing them!

Thanks guys...I think I'll give it a go with some airbrushing stain and maybe adding bits like you say with a brush. The sanding is the bit I'm dreading tho...I think if I take it easy like you say, hopefully I wont ruin it.

I used Leather stain from a furniture store online, weathering sprays, and sand/glass paper, then rubbed it down a few walls and kicked it around my garage floor a few times :)

I might be a bit late here, but I made mine out of marine vinyl and that stuff is pretty dang tough. I hit it lightly and sparingly with 40 grit, then a little rougher with 150, then went all around it with some 220.

Looks pretty decent, though the color I started with was off in the first place.
