Good thoughts on the "rocket" tip. I look at it this way; The ESB tip looks to have straight sides and the ROTJ looks to be a wonky casting of the ESB - so, if the rocket was found also to be warped - I would probably omit that mistake from my recreation as well. Feel me?

Got the fin slots milled and the base of the rocket completed - also laser cut some fins for the static version.

Pics up shortly!

Maybe it's just me...but I also think those angles are slightly different and the ESB is more upright than the ROTJ. The ROTJ seems to be leaning "back" away from the camera slightly -- which accentuates that perceived curvature.

Not that it isn't "wonky", but if you think about it the bottom part of a cylinder cannot possible be convex or concave all the way around. In order for the end points of that line to meet, if it is curving upward at one point, it has to curve back down somewhere to stay in the same plane. Not sure if that is the best way of describing it, but maybe you see what I mean.

PROGRESS REPORT:

Milled the slots for the fins, finished the base fins of the "rocket" and got together with John to design the fins (static and hero) and then laser cut them. I decided to incorporate a new detail on the fins that I have yet to see on any other fan pack to date.

Here's the finished piece almost ready for molding. - This will be the Static ESB stack after I add some missing details.

This second pic more clearly shows the added detail making it's look overall mo-bettuh!

Back tomorrow with the promised bottom caps for the side tanks.

Meh :)

Holy Smoking Jet Pack Thrusters Fetman! Can this thing get any more spot on? Great Attention to the details, love it! (y)

FINALLY, it looks like all our inaccurate jet pack problems will be solved!

Question: Will there be an option to have some machined parts with this pack then??? For example, you have an aluminum ring on the missle. Is that just for the proto-type, or will we have the option to get those should we get a pack from you.

Again, its looking terrific!!!!

I have had this "ring" question in a PM along with some others.

The short answer is yes - on the Hero Grappling unit - but I do not know if I will be offering up aluminum rings on their own at this time. The static unit will be cast with the ring as part of either the top or the bottom of one component. I'd guess it will be attached to the piece it is sitting on. You'd have to shave it off of the static unit to put the hero ring in it's place. Trying to keep cost down and don't want to have to make a separation yielding an additional mold if not necessary. I'd love to run the whole thing as one piece minus the fins.

There will be aluminum fins though. And in the end I'd have to do the ring by hand as I did this one - it's a friggin pain - and I charge dearly to be in pain. But if there is enough interest then I'd HAVE to do a run.

Sorry, don't know exactly which part you are asking about but no comment on pricing for anything yet. Let's get it done first and see where we stand.

Ambu, I don't mean in any way to over art direct your thread, this is just a suggestion, but couldn't you set the kit up in such way that I quickly illustrated in the attached image, with merely a "Male / Female" connection sandwiching the collar?

The other reason I'm asking or suggesting is that the collar is such a "KEY DETAIL" on the rocket, especially on the ESB Suit where that piece distinctly stands out and is something where paint never really quite replicates it appropriately! :facepalm And at the same time, I absolutely think the articulated rocket is going to be a incredibly cool thing to have and a feature that most everyone will want, but not necessarily be able to afford. Now, if the collar was offered as an easily swapped out "UPGRADE", much like a machined aluminum gauntlet rocket, etc. is, than I could see many members being able to afford and attain that overall look and impression made by the "Machined Aluminum Collar", which again, stands out so prominently on the ESB Pack!

Again, these are merely my thoughts and a suggestions. The project is off to an incredible start and it will be awesome to see once it is fully realized! (y)

:cheers

Excellent work !
If it's anything like your other pieces this will be a very sweet build.

I was wondering what you folks are using as an overall size reference, i.e. overall size once mounted on a display or, in other cases, worn by members ? Are you using Exhibit pics, known pieces for scale, that sort of thing, for overall proportions ?

After you resize your pic ;) remember that it also will mean that everyone else will reap the benefit by added cost with a 3 piece rocket vs. a one piece. My thought is to offer the ring with the Hero Grapple unit but that's just me. Everything is separate and slid onto a 1/2 inch aluminum tube as of now so anything is possible - but not until it's all finished!

As to size ref - we are using all known (and unknown) available reference to determine the overall size.

On another note - bottom of the side canisters done! No pics yet - maybe Sunday.

One customer for a 'deluxe machined alu collar' right here! (y) Making a jet pack out of sintra, but such details are hard to make.

EDIT: did I mention what a fantastic looking rocket you're making? :D
