Accurate Gauntlet Darts - Interest?

Will pop into the machine shop before work and see what we can do to those areas... looks about 0.3mm off the length between main shoulder and start of chamfer... and lose about 0.2 of the tip...
We'll get there! (y)

Looking great so far! the left one is the original, yes? Also, what is the material of the original, stainless?

The one one the right is the original part.
I have one original and from what I can tell it is chrome plated.
I don't know what material is underneath the plating though.

.

I agree with Gino's assessment although I am not convinced the plating is chrome as my originals have rusted a bit... I kinda thought stainless as well, but who knows. I am not a metal expert.

When it comes to metal stuff, I know some but not a lot either.
I can definitely tell it's not aluminum.
It has a chrome look. That is why I think it was plated.
Now can stainless look just like chrome? If so then that's most likely what it is.

Wait, can stainless steel even rust?
Maybe the 'rust' we see on our originals isn't really rust but something else that has marred the finish.

.

It does kind of look like stainless steel. It depends on the quality of the stainless steel but they may have used a version with more iron in it which could result in some rust on the surface. Just a thought.

Popped into the machine shop this morning and highlighted the minor issues with the machinst? should have seen his face?

- I should get an email later today to say that he's done it! if he has then I'll post some pics up later ok guys... (y)

I know that look all too well.
It just means you are doing something right. (y)

The aluminium used for the Stabilizers has a chrome look on it. Mojo used the same aluminium used on helicopter pieces. I think it looks spot on (y)

Here's a pic. I'm sorry because pic is a bit little and it has some thumbprints on it... I need to use gloves, I know, I know...

Mojo can say what he thinks the real one is? :D

The finish of the machining kinda gave it that appearance.. plus if you 'wash' ali in hot soapy water it can almost make it look chrome...

But I think the found part is stainless... mainly due to the colouration on the machined surfaces.

Bud, you must go with a camera, and say to the machinist "It's not really good" and then take a pic. This way we will know how he looks

Ok small update...

I dunno whats going on with the guy but just had an email from him and he refuses to do another prototype!
But will commence the run Monday next week and I can view the the first one off the run (with the mods) but will not do another prototype... :facepalm
So I'm gonna front this and see what I get.

Yeah pretty much... I'm deliberating whether to carry on...
He won't make me another prototype due to the machine being in 'down' time and the costs of resetting the programe etc, (His words). I expect down time is loss of earnings and in this climate money is money.
For the price of the 2 darts so far I could buy 3 more sweeparms!
But what he did say was that he would still do my run and 'with' the final tweaks that have been highlighted over the last 24hrs... :facepalm

So, whther or not to carry on with the run and HOPE he gets it right this time or cut and run incase it doesn't come out right?

It's a tough call Gav, though I think he sounds a little unreasonable?? You're still a paying customer who needs the order to be spot on right?

That's good for me (y)

i can sympathize to an extend, but really... in the world of machined parts, 0.3mm is a significant amount! that could spell disaster if it was a component in a precision instrument.

that being said, i'll take them with the last couple of mods on faith. they certainly look closer than anything that has been done to date, and i'd say that with those last adjustments they are just about perfect.
